| As expected, a samurai v ninja thread draws people like flies to brown substances, and the poll is so close! I'm worried of voting, I could tip the scales. Ninja do have freedom, not bound by too many rules. Samurai however have honour, which can go a long way. Samurai also have the lovely katana, whereas ninja have smaller weaponry. However we cant decide this debate via weaponary because both groups have cool weapons. We need to figure out what the question means. What is the question? If we can make the question more specific, the criteria becomes clearer and then I can pick a side. As it is now, I just cant pick. :( |

| Going for samurai here... I'm sure everyone already knows the difference between historical and "fantasized" ninjas (historically they were better masters of disguise than of battle), but that aside, bushido is just plain awesome. AND they have Musashi. Plus, if you need your fictional fighters to be more badass, go for ronins. | I'm not too fond of ninjas. Not because I don't like them, but because it's a dark profession in real history. I used to play a role-play game called Taikou Risshiden, where you can play as a wanderer, blacksmith, ninja, shogun (or you can even work your way up from an officer up to shogun), merchant etc in the late 16th century. Being a ninja means you're stuck with it forever. Sure you do espionage, sabotage, assassinations, and perhaps guerilla warfare when called for by a daimyo or a shogun, which can be interesting and cool especially in the game's point of view. But quitting your clan means betrayal and you will be under pursuit from it for the rest of your life. |

If you're asking which do we like better, I like both since both trades require a great deal of skill, although I don't think bushido is particularly impressive since basically it boils down to "do as your master says," or rather "kill whomever your master says, including yourself." |

| Samurais are all about honor, and facing your opponent fairly. That's real courage. Ninjas use stealth attacks, and raid their opponents when they least expect it. so in comparison, ninjas are just too cowardly for me to like them better than samurais |

I find that more appealing than that sort of "omnipotent" air of a ninja. :3 |

As far as kicking ass, sure samurais are honorable and that's a great trait, but in order for a ninja's plan to succeed in acts such as assassination for example, it takes a great deal of preparation, training, and dedication. Also,how kick ass is it for a shogun to decide every battle that a samurai has to fight while ninjas can pick their own battle for the right price. |

| i honestly like ninjas better. they had to be fast and secretive. They may not have had as much strength as a samurai but they were usually faster and much better at hit and run tactics. Yes, samurai contributed a lot to Japanese history, but no one can really know just how much the ninja contributed since it was in their very nature to be secretive. In a fair fight a samurai would probably win. However they were soldiers of war, and war isn't fair, thus the reason ninja were created in the first place. |
