| The thriller and mystery genre is slowly fading, however ecchi rom-coms are the staple of anime since it became what its like today (lifestyle for some). So if the weaker genres disappear those are the ones that will be left. And yes I do think they're running out of good material for good non-ecchi/romcom anime these days |

| Well, as more time passes and more anime is released, I would imagine the number of Romance, ecchi and comedy anime would increase. I think it has shifted over, after all there weren't any harem anime before Love Hina (believe it or not), but that's just how all media works. Different trends are bound to occur over time. As for the change, I'm rather indifferent, though granted I don't like harems much. Harems weren't mentioned you say? Ecchi was, so close enough. |

Shounen has nothing to do with the content. It is the demographic that the series is aimed at. However, the romance aspect of Harem shows, and the repetitiveness of Fight the monster of the week anime is not genre inherent. It is unfair to label all slice of life anime as generic, and it is unfair to label all Action anime as shounen crap. Within the lines are good series of all make and model. Spice and Wolf is an exceptional Romance anime. Shingeki no Kyojin is an exceptional Young man fights giant monsters anime. Maybe we should consider the integration of sex as an acceptable part of human society as one cause of the rapid increase in romance/ecchi series? Where young people used to be infatuated with monsters, dinosaurs, and sword fighting, in the modern world young people are having sex and dating at 12 years old. I understand Japan is different than the West, but I'd assume teenagers there like to pound it out just as much as ours do. |

What passes for humour these days has definitely been greatly sexualised. but then again whilst you have your normal comedy/ecchi/harems, you also have the ones which integrate other genres, e.g Infinite Stratos being a mecha/sci-fi/harem/romantic/comedy with slices of ecchi. From my own personal experiences (which isnt much) it's rare to come across anime that don't incorporate romance et al in them somewhere. It seems we're all suckers for it, and the production companies know it. |

| I see quite a variety of genres come out every season. This season you have mystery, mech, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy, action and SoL. I think there may be a slight increase in comedy, romance and slice of life, but not enough to have killed off the other genres all too much. I like it the way it is, because then I can watch different kind of anime during the season. It's quite refreshing. What I've noticed is the increase of anime aimed at women/girls. |

| There has been a huge increase from the 90's and even early 2000's. They are trying to use fan service as a means to get viewers. It has become much more standard to include at least some form of it, whereas earlier there was rarely any. |

| I would say so. Not that I necessarily mind. Besides, there are still good shows of all different genres being released, not just ecchi/romance/comedy. But... I will say the the moe-craze has really picked up, and maybe gone a bit insane in the past few years. |

Eh, I think both of them are pretty mediocre. Shoujo romances are aggravating because of the relationships that never go anywhere and the self-insert feelings it gets. Same can be said for shounen romances too though I haven't seen/read as much of those. |
