Finally, Nagai actually takes a break and hands the storyboards to someone else, and not just anyone, but Takashi Hashimoto of Bleach fame. And man, while it’s not the wildest thing ever, seeing real ambition in the boards for once is so refreshing after Nagai’s usual copy-paste-the-manga approach.

Like holy shit, the camera was actually following and moving with the characters during a fight?? And it was a mech fight of all things?? Yeah, Hashimoto being the mech AD explains everything. Ozawa’s effects were fantastic too, I honestly expected Hashimoto to handle them like he usually does, but Ozawa killed it.

Took nine episodes, but we finally got an episode on par with season two’s best. Bravo.

Can I speak? I found it quite exciting.

Today couldn't have played out any differently. Ever since last season, Phoenix Man has been a formidable opponent. Donkan Bird comes from a cartoon character. Trapped in fantasy, he basically became immortal. Kid Emperor had to use his powerful trump card: activating what looks like a classic Power Rangers Megazord… or, for the younger guys, an Optimus Prime.

Kid Emperor thinking Flashy Flash had died was hilarious. Chuckle. But things got scary fast when the dead started turning into zombies. And then it got even worse. He had to give it his all, even destroying his precious robot. For a moment I genuinely thought Kid Emperor was done for. But when he stuck that toy inside the suit. Dude, that was priceless. And Phoenix Man tearing the whole thing apart himself? LOL. And not just him, those two guys from the last episode are alive too! Just… completely naked. Lmao.

I hope next week we have another hero's spotlight. The staff is getting into their groover now!

@IzanaSolos The thing that frustrates me is how people are screaming on youtube that Takashi Hashimoto should quit his job because he made that stupid statement. Like yes, stupid thing to say but if these people had any idea of who this man is you would NOT want him to quit lol

Animation and drawing is definitely better but ... let's be honest, the pacing, the transitions are weird, sound just cuts and new scene plays, everything is slow.

This really looks like a bad hentai lmao, but the P scene just never comes

WE DID IT!!!! A REALLY GOOD TO EPISODE OF OPM S3!!!
I had problems with some of the direction, editing, etc , but the animation was just indisputably good. Fun villian, really good fight, really good episode. It's not really fun to beat around a dead busy and larp on all the mistakes every week. At the end of the day, it's still an anime I want to watch and want for it to be good; I want to be able to praise it.

Episode Rating: 7/10

edit: first half of last episode was good too, but the second half was not particularly good + the bad parts of this episode were even more amplified last time.

this ep actually hit different. No neon filter spam for once, and the animation didn’t look like it was drawn during lunch break 😂. Phoenix Man’s transformation was sick af. dude went from majestic angel vibes to full-on fallen demon mode after that blast.

This episode is so engaging, I almost forget to breath because it's so intense. I'm one of a very few believers even when all things went wrong and I'm glad that this anime doesn't betray my trust.

The MVP of this episode is the editing team which carefully arrange the action scene, frame by frame, resulting in an award-worthy achievement.

The sound and music team is always at 100%, they're the backbone of this season, and in this episode the visual aspect finally catch up to the audio aspect.

Child Emperor has such a great character design, and by character design I don't mean just his physical appearance, I also mean the way he think, the way he act, the way he fight. He's good enough to be the main protagonist if OPM has spin-off.

This episode hints that the monster transformation can be undone, which is a good news for me since I'm a pacifist since heroes don't have to kill human-turned-monster anymore, but it's probably too soon to tell.

Next week can't come soon enough, and please SS4 announcement soon.

Wow this episode's fight scenes were also half-decent. Worse than the last episode with Flashy Flash but it could've been worse. And Phoenix Man was an interesting villain I guess.

Back to back decent/pretty good episodes (by this season's standards ofc). Really can't ask for more than that at this point lol.

the bandai producer said episode 5 and 9 are the best but nah the flashy flash episode is still the best

about the canon stuff since one punch man in the manga is different to the webcomic anyway i will just treat the anime as a different timeline like how the webcomic is another timeline and the manga another different timeline

Multiple fights were redrawn by Murata during this arc. Some of them were better before the redraw.
You should read both versions of the fight in the manga and decide for yourself which you like better.
I'm not watching S3, but from comments it looks like the studio went with the original version of the fight for this episode.

I'm not really sure what use Child Emperor can be now, but I guess he still has a rucksack full of little robots or something 😬

Not too bad but I'm just bored of fights like that, we just got so many weak and low budget episodes and now we have this kind of mecha fight which isn't too bad actually (still average) but not that interesting so another meh episode, still not as worse as the beginning ones (just like the previous one)

Why did they adapt the retcon version of this fight? Did they forget that the volume version exists? It had a good character development arc for Child Emperor, but they traded it for the big boom.
Imagine normies saying: "Peaky Blinders is mid and overhyped. Just another typical crime drama show. Breaking Bad is much better lol.".

Was definitely a worse episode than the last, but still pretty good for this season's standards. Not sure why they said episodes 5 and 9 were the priority episodes when ep 8 looked way better lol

I'm also not sure why Bandai Namco didn't play a part in this fight specifically since Gundam is one of the biggest IPs they prioritize, I feel like they could've made this episode a lot better and called up Sunrise. But as we all know by now, Bandai couldn't care less about OPM :/

That woman producer was tearing its hair out saying we should pay attention to episode 9, and it was the most average thing in the universe. There was nothing remarkable about it, it was all very standard anime quality... At least it wasn't the awfulness of episodes 1-7, I guess...
