I can’t help but wonder how Santa Claus here driving this car looks to everyone else. To the naked eye, it’d just seem like empty air in the passenger seat. And for some reason, that’s what made me realize, this whole thing is just a rehash of the Mai arc from season one. Fantastic. We’ve officially run out of ideas, not only recycling from other shows like before, but now even copying from ourselves. The lack of originality is honestly killing me.

At this point, Sakuta trying to get these waifus back to normal just feels the same every time. There’s nothing new or interesting about the conversations he has with them, it all blends together and doesn’t move me in the slightest. Something about Santa Claus trying to gaslight Sakuta into thinking she’s Touko, real nice. At least Sakuta managed to push her into giving Takumi the scarf... well sort of, because surprise, he can’t even see her. And wow, what a shocker, someone’s invisible again. What is this now, the fifth time in this series? Truly groundbreaking stuff.

Seriously though, what was that insane tone shift? Mai is gonna die because she didn't dream? What the actual FUCK??? I honestly have no idea how they expect to wrap all of this up in just one episode.

Episode wasn’t done when this was made lol

That aside, this arc is going to have an insane conclusion next week I have a really bad feeling about this. Can Fukuyama, Sakuta, Mai and Nene/Touko all get happy endings? We’ve seen some crazy cases, but it’s so cruel to see Fukuyama not remember his own gf or be able to perceive her, especially when it’s clear his soul still feels a strong bond to her that’s why he wears the scarf!

Now we know people who don’t dream are dead in the future hence them not being able to see that far ahead, Mai fits that category as does Touko.. so yea that finale is going to be wild. If anyone can save them both, it’s Sakuta. I love how protective he is of Mai and that hug was sooo sweet at his apartment. They both rely on each other for strength, one of the best couples.

Ending confused me though, is there another santa or how did Touko forget all about Nene? Maybe one of them has to “die” in the end? I’m so confused at this point lol

Looks like things are back to square one with Nene/Touko.
It seems like she is in denial and it's affecting everything around her.
Still i wonder how it looked what she driving.
In any case the ending might be pretty hectic.

Figured Fukuyama would know Touko/Nene. Seems the moment Touko started blowing up, everyone forgot about Nene. Even Fukuyama. That’s pretty tragic actually. She’s even losing her own identity so even she doesn’t remember she’s Nene…

I’m very curious about this whole “not dreaming” thing meaning death. Is it really true? Or just a coincidence lol.

The way the living room of MiniSkirt Santa girl looked with all the Christmas decorations, that was perhaps one of the most beautiful-yet-spookiest imagery I have ever seen in an anime, and thats also taking into consideration that that scene happened in February in the anime, almost two months since Christmas.

I mean, its understandable for people to have Christmas decorations in January, but imagine walking into a room/apartment and its still actively packed with tons of Christmas decorations. Even Sakuta had his eyes super-wide-open with the shock of it all.

So Sakuta has another older beauty picking him up in a car and driving him around to go on a date?

While it is very complicated, I think that it's an amalgamation of all the puberty syndrome that we've seen so far. I think that Kirishima hasn't been alive for a long while but Nene is trying to be her if that makes sense. I think she was a real person but died in Hokkiado or something, I think she was the "Mai" of their school that Nene felt envious of. With the Mai not dreaming past a certain date is somewhat confusing though because as deep as this show is, I don't think they'd kill her off for a second time

perfect penultimate episode, builds up amazingly for the final climax while settling up all the plot points.

if I were to cherry-pick, the only con would be the amt of still frames (with basic background art) in this episode

The identity crisis between Nene and Touko has become erally confusing. At this point I don't even know how it works but what I do know is that this season will end next week. With a banger? With an accident? With a cliffhanger? No clue, but it will end. Hopefully it's good.

What the hell– we just keep getting the plot twists. They did not have a dream (aka. premonition of the future / simulation of other timelines) because they do not exist in the future, it makes sense. And now Mai-san is not the only one in danger but also Santa-san. But we can avoid that future, it may still be a vision from a timeline where they died.

Now that I think back about it, there were already hints about Fukuyama being related to Nene aside from the reveals in the previous episode; their frames overlapped in the opening and it was Fukuyama that showed the blank profile – Iwamizawa Nene's profile on the school pageant page during Ikumi's arc.

Santa forgot her own identity and anything related to Iwamizawa Nene, because she's embodying(?) Kirishima Touko, there was people online that did covers and were told that they sounded like the real thing, did the same thing happened to them where they also became a real Kirishima Touko? (It's like Kirishima Touko had became a concept) (I don't even know if what im saying is making sense– lol)
I said a few episodes ago that Santa might hate Mai-san because she's stealing her identity and now we're moving towards a future where Santa might be the one to cause Mai-san's death.

One funny thing amidst the unsettling mood of this episode is when Sakuta told Nodoka that she's the president of the Victims of Mai-san Club lol, I mean yeah she is hahahaha.

Watching Sakuta lose his perma-calmness whenever he gets worried about Mai always gets to me.

Also I just really like how one of the giant Santa's eyes is obscured by an ornament in Touko/Nene's room. Doubles as cool symbolism too.

Sakuta had ptsd but after what he went through ofcourse. Good moment with Mai san. The situation is way more severe than they thought as there's several other people also not recognised after they covered Touko Kirishima's song. Even Iwamizawa Nene herself is forgetting her existence. So from what I'm getting, she wants to become Touko Kirishima and anything in the way like those girls who people were commenting that they might be Touko Kirishima is vanishing. Maybe same thing is going to happen to Mai san as well unless Sakuta does something. Also there's a chance Nene really isn't Touko but Mai san is. She prolly covered her song and because Nene became Touko she forgot the existence and the reason for the big reveal is the situation is solved and she remembered? Anyway everything set up for the big finale. One more episode to go.

Mai denies being touko on live tv. Smart move

Nene watches this and has to make a move now. She finally agrees to go on the "date" with sakuta.
I do wonder how people perceive when nenes driving the car.
Nene admits that she has a boyfriend aka takumi which was quite obvious at this point tbh. Also he has stopped perceiving her as well sadly.
Nene buys presents for Takumi and asks sakuta to give it to him since he cant see her. But sakuta persuades her for the sake of takumi.
Also love that nene knows Takumi still wears the old scarf she gave to him. Their talk in the car about takumi was wholesome, especially why nene started liking takumi and showing his precious & lovable qualities.
I am more certain on the fact they both represent another counterpart of mai & sakuta.
Unfortunately after meeting takumi and sakuta trying to convince takumi to remember nene, it fails which is heartbreaking for nene even more & she runs away. Really hurt to see that.

Himeji shows her videos of toukos first singing videos and yea its creepy when only two people can perceive someone. Also people who sang the song also not being able to be perceived? Thats scary af.

After takumis call, its apparent that people who dont have dreams on christmas day die? Sakuta was visibly shaking after realizing it might affect mai too. Also Nene as well.

Funny how sakutas wish to see mai just comes to reality in a second xD
But him hugging her so protectively made me tear up, hes so shaken up especially after knowing what happened in the past. Mai reassures him as well vowing to protect him too. Hearwarming <3
Sakuta visits nene who wants him to build a house, her room was quite the interesting spectacle filled with christmas stuff.
Suddenly nene denies knowing Takumi and even her own name "nene" & says she is touko now which leaves me and sakuta both confused. Like wtfs happening.
Later Sakuta talks with futaba over this and she comes to a theory that, nene is really trying hard to become touko & inherit her personality & character completely? Even going far as to gather objects which touko would have.
But since her identity is a mystery and mai still being the no.1 candidate for touko, her life is in danger. The worst part is the most dangerous person is a invisible person & nene knows mai is a threat to her plans.
The setup is here i guess and now sakuta will have a showdown, hopefully takumi is involved and he can help out as well to resolve this.
Its gonna be quite the finale cant wait !

This might be the penultimate episode, but the plot of this arc is still pretty complex. It's another reminder of just how tough this issue is for Sakuta to try and solve.

Not only does Nene's boyfriend, Fukuyama, has forgotten about her, despite Sakuta's best efforts to try and jumpstart his memories of her, but even Nene has forgotten her own memories about being Nene Iwamizawa herself. This, coupled with the other info about people who didn't dream on Christmas Eve wind up dead, as did the one unfortunate classmate that Fukuyama was friends with in his past, only makes Mai's position even more worrying.

Going by Koga's timeline dream, the following day, where Mai is being a police chief for a day, is when the incident involving her will happen. Knowing about Nene's goal of wanting to truly become Touko Kirishima, the fact that people on social media still believe that Mai is Touko, Nene will naturally see her as an obstacle in her way towards her main goal. All of this is shaping up for one hell of a final episode. I do hope that Sakuta can solve this issue without having anyone getting injured at all, if possible. That would be the best case scenario, for sure.

Wait, so Nene is trying to become Touko Kirishima? It’s had us thinking the whole time that she is her, but maybe the reality of the situation is different, or perhaps it’s changed with the new development of Nene losing her memory of being herself, that really was such a wild way to end the episode, not to mention the slightly creepy Christmas room, especially since it’s February in the show now lol. And this stuff with Fukuyama is wild too, so he and Nene were boyfriend and girlfriend, but he’s forgotten all about her now, very sad, I’m wondering if that moment at the airport played a role in Nene forgetting who she is or not. And there’s also the whole “not having a dream means you die” thing looking to be true, so Mai’s death could be imminent or something crazy is gonna happen, I would throw out a theory but with just one episode left, I’m just gonna let things play out before I sound stupid lol.

I have no idea how the finale is gonna solve everything but I’m sure it’ll be a very interesting one regardless. And I’ve seen an interesting detail about the ED pointed out, not sure exactly what it means but I am ready for my mind to be blown next week when this ends.

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but what does it look like to everyone else when Sakuta is riding with Nene in the car? Can they just not see the car? Can’t remember if they explained that or not lol.

Fukuyama had such a fine girlfriend but how could he forget her. He's just attending mixers now to fill that hole in his heart. Poor Nene.. after failing to be perceived by her boyfriend again she even forgot who she is now and completely assumed the role of Touko Kirishima.
I'm sure Miori has something to do with the identity of Touko Kirishima. Mai, Sakuta, Shouko Makinohara.. all these individuals must have their fate intertwined with Kirishima Touko. That must be why Mai's life is in danger again.

I FINALLY CAUGHT UP!!!

But damn what a cliffhanger to end the episode on! There is so much going on, so many mysteries that keep piling up, but at the same time it feels like we are almost at a resolution! I have my own personal theory of who the "real"  Kirishima Touko is but I'm not gonna share it here. But I cannot wait to see next episode if I'm correct or not. So glad I managed to catch up with all the episodes just before the final one drops. Super excited to experience peak end together with everyone today!

It was great to see in this episode what Nene Iwamizawa and her old life (before her existence got erraised).

At the beginning, the conversation with Nodoka Sakuta at least helped a little to understand Nene better (after all, she understands well how difficult it is to get close to Mai Sakurajima). The next day, Sakuta has a date with Nene / Santa again, and he finds out that his friend Takumi Fukuyama is her beloved boyfriend from Hokkaido, who finally made it to the same university as her (and then unfortunately forgot her). Apparently, her "new" personality as Kirishima Touko is the reason why neither Takumi nor the rest of her old friends and acquaintances perceive her as Nene Iwamizawa. After all, Sakuta manages to convince her and Takumi to meet at the airport before his return to Hokkaido (in order that she can give him a gift and restore his memory). Unfortunately, Takumi still cannot perceive her, and in the end, it remains a conversation between him and Sakuta and his promise to remember his forgotten girlfriend. The whole thing makes Nene really upsad, so she leaves the place without any word.

At february, Sakuta did a lesson in a driving school, where he met again Miori (and she was already able to pass her driving test). After that, both of them bring up Kirishima Touko again in a café, and what is shocking is that there are several singers with a similar voice to the 'original' Kirishima Touko. However, none of these are noticed by anyone other than Sakuta and Miori, as their surroundings do not react to the loud singing (already frightening and comparable to Mai-san's case earlier in the series).

Later, Sakuta has another conversation with Takumi, and unfortunately he couldn't restore any memories, but at least both try their best to protect their loved ones. Shortly thereafter, Mai-san also came to Sakutas place, and one could see that he was both happy to see her safe and well, and also very worried that something might happen to her (similar to Christmas back then). Their brief hug was so heartwarming here and at the same time deeply touching (and it's nice to see that Mai-san also embraces him with full understanding).

Finally, at the end of the episode, Sakuta visits Nene in her apartment again, where he is first supposed to take out the trash for her. In the process, he finds a prize that is important to her and asks why she wants to get rid of it (apparently she no longer has any attachment to it). One must say, her apartment full of Christmas decorations is really beautiful and at the same time bizarre, and no one could have expected that Sakuta would be allowed to build something out of building blocks here. It becomes completely clear to him here—at the latest (as it does to the viewer)—that he is facing a different version of Kirishima Touko, or at least a person who does not know who Nene Iwamizawa is.

So far so good, it stays really exciting for the final episode.
