It's fine if you cut out the epilogue scene and then just pretend the story ends with Armin on the boat with the other war heros. Works perfectly fine as an ambiguous ending that can be read as both hopeful and dreadful.

I genuinely believe those that don’t like the ending had no idea what the story as a whole was trying to say.
Freedom is an idea and an idea alone. You can never be fully free, we’re bound by natural law or self indulged state law.

Eren was never going to be free, he was always just that scared, pathetic, angry kid the whole time. He put on a facade after he saw what he could accomplish and thought it best course of action. And even still throughout all of season 4 he was begging for another way.

In the end the world will forget everything you’ve done for better or worse. And the end result was more fighting and more endless wars.

It’s a tale of tragedy, love, and violence. It is the perfect show and will go down as one of the greatest works of fiction ever written.

Theres a big difference between mediocre and bad. The ending itself was mediocre yes but not bad, and by ending i mean most of the second episode, the first episode was 10/10 absolute masterpiece. The second episode was mostly good but the end portion is not as good with goofy scenes, but i expected as much as a manga reader.
