On the one hand I get your "pure" argument,on the other just checked your list and it's in english so like,you are defeating your own argument.What's more is that the majority of us here don't speak Japanese,if I see kanji all that goes trough my mind is "Well yeah this is in Japanese" but I can't read shit,so sticking with english on a predominantly english speaking site is perfectly fine.For example in balkan and russian forums most use english titles as well,it's not like something major changes if you call it "Sidonia No Kishi" or "Knights Of Sidonia" now does it ?

If you don't speak Japanese just use the English title. People don't do this for any other foreign film, and since you'll probably be enjoying every other bit of language in the work via translation it's daft to stop short of using a localised title. (Sometimes the English titles are still in Japanese anyway, but then again a lot of Japanese titles are in English to start with)

@thewiru Well none of them are in Kanji which is the "pure" way,but even romanized there are few who are like Bokurano,Fate/Kaleid but shouldn't AOT be Shingeki No Kyoujin and Kaiji-Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji ? Idk if the site does it differently but there seems to be some disparison

That would be impossible, since a lot of anime titles are either purely in hiragana, katakana, or straight up romaji.

This is primarily why I use the word "animays" instead of "animes", because while I respect the correct grammar, I still wanna make fun of pretentious elitist anime fans like you.

I think people using "animes" is less being malicious and more not really having an understanding of the Japanese language since its a loanword of a loanword. Its similar to how some casual LEGO enjoyers will say "Legos" as the plural instead of the more technically correct "Lego", since most words in English have a distinction between the singular and plural form. Japanese is one of those languages that don't have distinction in most cases so its a generally easy mistake to make if you haven't spoken the language before. Heck I have even seen this error made in some early dubs for media like in Metal Gear Solid where Otacon, a character who is an anime otaku adds the s suffix on anime when referring to multiple Japanese shows. It's a very easy mistake to make and its honestly just whatever since even if it sounds silly you can still understand the general idea.



On the topic of English titles, I just tend to see it as more a level of convenience than anything. A lot of people who may not know Japanese will struggle with shows that have long titles, and they will not understand the context. There are even some shows that have their English titles in the Japanese logo, such as the English "Fullmetal Alchemist" title being under the Japanese "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" kanji logo. I think most people outside of Japan wont know what "Shingeki no Kyojin" is but anyone would recognize "Attack on Titan". The average person who speaks English just doesn't know the Japanese titles and thats ok and should be taken into account when discussing amongst English speakers. I personally tend to use English titles when speaking as it makes it more clear to all fans who speak English as to what I am talking about rather than only hardcore fans

Be a mentally stable, well-adjusted individual whose main personality trait isn't just "weeb".

Sounds like you actually have no real-life problems or struggles, which results in you having no mental fortitude and being bothered by benign things you described in your post. Try facing adversity and struggling to do something in real life and over time you'll stop caring about petty and insignificant things like someone saying "animes" instead of "anime".

Living in an English-speaking community, I'd feel more awkward if I hear someone say "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" or "Shingeki no Kyojin." Unless they're Japanese.

I'd be even more embarrassed if that person gets nitpicky about this.

Please just call it like a regular English-speaking person. Everyone here just calls it "All Quiet on the Western Front," instead of insisting on "Im Westen nichts Neues."

IDK, I've been calling it Shingeki no Kyojin since 2013, and so were people in the places I used to hang out with.
