Knowing that they will likely be lost and will keep asking questions here? It's an exercise in futility. Game adaptations are for the people who've played the source already.
I wish Cowboy Bebop never existed.

What? No. If Anything the anime was meant to promote the source material.

do you think they just throwing out money to.make anime and not hoping attracting new audiences?

I second this, a lot of people haven’t played the game and are watching persona 5, game adaptions are certainly not only directed at players of the ps4 game, that would make absolutely no sense.

So...if game adaptations are for the ones who played the game, are manga and Ln adaptation are made for the ones who read the manga and LN? Then no, it is here for people to watch and enjoy and for the studio to make money.

"why do people who never read the manga/light novel still watch this?"
no matter how much you try to argue, that's the same logic.

I wish I could play them but I only have PC. Also I've never been able to get into turn based games apart from Pokémon, I've tried countless times...

I liked FF XIII combat system but the rest of the gameplay was soo boring (basically run in a straight line for 20hrs) that I gave it up

I've beaten FF I and II tho...

Because you don't need to play the game unless you know what is about, not everyone have a PS4 so sorry OP but everyone can do what they want.

Who knows, maybe after the animation is over, some will play the game too.

I don't play the games, but I also don't ask questions/act like I'm lost and the series owes me an explanation either.

Its enjoyable to watch, I'm not much for gaming.

I watch because it is very likely I won't ever play the game and want to be able to experience the storyline and characters without having to play the game. Fully aware that I'll be missing on some things and perfectly fine with that.

Most people can't play the game because of the console exclusivity.

That's what the anime is for. Ofc the anime will never replicate the game.

The feeling of picking a girlfriend, going through each social link and deciding how to spend your days in the game is something you cannot replicate in the anime.

maybe they're under some sort of weird, Western delusion that adapted works are expected to stand on their own, for a general audience, even making radical changes and abridgements to the source material if indicated, rather than being mechanical one-to-one translations of the source material that panders to the wishes of obsessive hardcore fans at the cost of becoming basically incoherent failed productions from an objective standpoint

that's gotta be it

If anime adaptations of video games can only be followed/understood by people who have played the games, then those are bad adaptations.

It depends...
Some serve as prologue for the universe of the game or its intrigue but can also be seen as stand-alone personal stories (//SIGN), some can be prologue who do nothing more than introduce thez story to the future player (//ROOTS), some can be side/supplemntal stories for a game or character and those are made only with the players in mind (//LIMINALITY), and I could find more variants.

You could argue the people who haven't played it are the target audience rather than those who have played it. I know I'm only watching it because I want to refresh my memory of the story with a different cast instead of playing it again for another 60-100hrs.

If I had played the game with the Japanese cast, I probably wouldn't bother watching the animation.

Emulation is a thing.

Yeah, you could. Or play it through legal means, so you're actually supporting the creators and the video game industry.

Do you have severe autism? You can buy the game and use your own copy to play.

It may not have been your intent, but usually when people suggest emulation, there's a long-running strong implication of using a pirated copy of the game to do so rather than one purchased legally. In any case, I'd like to ask that you not use autism conditions in such obvious insults. It's offensive.

As a big fan of the game and after watching the first episode, you don't necessarily have to have played the game to enjoy the anime. They did a good job of adapting it so far so I can definitely see this as a very solid stand alone experience even for those who haven't played the game. Though I would recommend playing the game itself first since it is a truly well crafted RPG, watching the anime alone isn't bad either.

Not everyone has a PS4 or even a PS3 (like me). The only consoles I have are PS2 and PS1. I've played Persona 3 FES and am familiar with the Persona concept, so I just want to see what's this adaptation's twists are. There are many game adaptations that could stand on their own, like Little Busters, Koi to Senkyou to Chocolate and CLANNAD. If the adaptation is good enough, which in P5's case, it really does seem so, you may not have to definitely play the source material first to experience the story.

For anyone who played any Persona game, there won't be any issues following the story. I myself haven't played 5, but I've played 3 and 4 and so far has been what you'd expect from the Persona series.

If someone has to checkout the source material to even understand most of what's going on in a direct adaptation we call that a bad anime

How many people who love steins gate and Fate/stay night UBW have played the games?
(Though with Fate you won't get how detailed what's going on actually is but you won't be completely lost)
(A case like Danganronpa 3 where it's an original anime that's a direct sequel to the games is when someone can wonder why people who haven't played a game are watching the anime cause that's guaranteed floatation right there)

Like the series mentioned above it would be nice to have a case where the anime's fine but the source material is way better rather than an overall poorly executed anime with great source material (cough Dies Irae... Dies Irae...cough)

People's opinions on the anime don't really change whether the game/manga/novel/whatever is good though

Okay you sound really retarded and stupid, OF COARSE you can watch anime based games without playing the the game, either for fun and interest or treated as its own thing or don't feel like playing 100+ hours, in other words, THERE FOR ANYONE IDIOT!

Hell, I saw the God Eater anime without playing the games and I loved, FYI some anime GOT ME INTO some of the games in the first place.

Also I really hate your dumbass "I wish Cowboy Bebop never existed" line because thats among the best classics ever.

Game adaptations aren't only for the people who played the source, they are just so bad and rushed that only the ones who played the original game would understand the heck's going on.

As someone that has not played the game at ALL, I still can understand the aspects of the series despite being a bit of a problem which is pacing. To be fairly honest you should point this out to the people that are complaining I guess and even then, I dunno. Pointing this out?

As someone that doesn't know two jack shits about the source material I am enjoying the ride of the anime adaption.
