Random manga on a site is a beautiful thing. What's a manga you've found that's something that most other people don't know of? Why do you like it? And how did you find it? For me, I discovered all of these manga through a Featured Manga post on Facebook or the front page of a site like Batoto. I recently got into Teppuu, and it's a rare sports manga that interests me. The fight scenes are phenomenal, but what really draws me is the fact we have strong female characters that are not sexualized. Given that it's female MMA, the author doesn't go the other extreme and make everyone masculine looking, although a few characters are. The main character is really interesting, and it's a unique twist on talent. Real Account is a cool psychological thriller that analyzes social media in the least pretentious way imaginable. It's exceedingly clever and takes care to examine not only the big points of social behavior, but all the minutiae. The characters are still somewhat underdeveloped, but it's still a young series, and I have faith it'll continue to be good. Ouroboros came about when I was searching for a specific type of manga - a procedural manga. I was wondering if Japan did procedurals in manga, as they are super common in the West. Ouroboros is filled with a good Japanese twist on the formula, as well as a good cast of characters and nice artwork. The good part to me is that Ouroboros doesn't try to be too gritty, which is a problem I feel with several Japanese seinen manga. What're your obscure favorites? |

I discovered Haruka na Machi e while looking for a slice-of-life manga about a young boy around elementary or middle school. I was pleasantly surprised because of its premise and how the story progressed. I really liked the artwork because it looks really unique and well made. And the ending blew my mind because it is open to different kinds of interpretation. |

I discovered Torikagosou no Kyou mo Nemutai Juunintachi when i had nothing to do and scanned Takarai Rihito (She's my little sister's most favourite mangaka) works on Batoto. I just finished the series this morning and overall it was pretty satisfying read. It's not super engrossing or anything, but it's got a more creativity and sophistications than the majority of shoujo manga. The characters also feel more human than your usual cardboard cutout shoujo archetypes. |

I read blackout, it's quite interesting. I found it by searching for a genre that suits me, and it was ranked 1008th in mangafox, maybe it's obscure? Doubt(Tonogai Yoshiki) I found this when I was searching for a psychological mystery manga. And I like it. The story's cool. Bloody Monday 1, 2, last season Do you guys know this manga? Because I kinda don't believe this manga ranked 870+ in mangafox. This manga is too good to be placed 500+ (I think). This manga should've been around 200th. Or maybe I overrated this manga. And I found this while searching for a manga with genius protagonist. By the way you said Real Account, I too have read it when it was only 5 chapter(I guess?) And recently it become quite known. Most of my manga are the one I found before it was cool. It makes us feel cool knowing something before it was popular right? |

I felt that it fell off the rails somewhat in the third season, but it was super cool when I read it and really nicely drawn. Yeah, I'm glad Real Account is well-known now, although it's not super well-known; judging by its MAL rating, it's still kinda obscure. I mean, there have been manga I read that were super obscure and became hella popular, like The World Only God Knows and Horimiya, but Real Account hasn't reached that level (yet!). |

+1 for Teppuu While I was randomly searching for some seinen manga, I discovered Kokuhaku. A teacher who gives AIDS to her child's murderers (who happen to be her students) is by far the best revenge story I found in a manga. This manga has only 37 members here and it's probably the most obscure I read so far. |

I discovered Akumetsu when looking for something to read that was similar to death note/code geass. I finished all 162 chapters in around 3 days because Akumetsu was just so good. This manga has a dark and realistic art. With Comedy, Suspense, Thrill and above all graphic violence and really delves into What is good? and What is evil? |

http://myanimelist.net/manga/28184/Life_Is_Money Read that shit and be amazed. Seriously though, Life Is Money was amazing, albeit with a weak ending. If given more chapters, it would've probably been better. http://myanimelist.net/manga/33429/Antimagia Absolutely gorgeous art, albeit a weak storyline. Again, lacking due to a lack of chapters. http://myanimelist.net/manga/1533/Superior Now this one, this had the chapters and it proved it could be brilliant. Second manga was shitty though. Especially compared to it's predecessor. http://myanimelist.net/manga/66811/Stealth_Symphony Shame on JUMP for axing this, but it's still fucking great. |

Randomly stumbled upon Yuusen Shoujo: Plug-in Girl & Midori no Ou: Verdant Lord while browsing through sci-fi genre manga search and so far they have been a very good and obscure read (both 8/10), seriously after coming down from Parayste anime these manga have filled the void of feels. |

Shigurui- I was actually searching for some gory anime. I was supposed to watch it. but I saw how fine the art in the manga was like, so I chose to read it instead of watching it. and good gracious, only a few manga can make me gasp at their ending and this manga nailed it. plus, I posted it on social networks so that my friends could see it, and none of them knew it. so there. |

I guess 碧海のAION/Hekikai no Aion is an obscure manga. I don't know where or how I found out about it. I like it because the MC is an immortal and looks a bit like Tamaki from Bamboo Blade. I believe this is by the same other as Karin/Chibi Vampire, wich I have no clue about. Too bad the last fight is a bit confusing (I still don't understand what happened). Other than that, I really love 荒魂トライブ/Aratama Tribe. It's a fun one-shot but the story is all over the place and doesn't exactly have a conclusion. There's a lot of things left unanwsered. I do love Onimikado Yomi and how she acts xD Just snaking on stuff for no reason while ennemies attack and suddenly casting an insane spell of doom for no reason other than to show off xD I don't usualy like these kinds of characters, but this one I do xD Is Needless/Zero considered obscure? I don't really know where I first heard of it, but I love how it's completely over the top and insane. The characters are usualy also completely insane and over the top too xD I'm not entirely sure where the story is going half the time, but it's still a fun read. I don't like that litteraly every characters I like dies. (spoilers : there's a fuckton metric of dying characters) The art style is also pretty cartoony (the anime especialy feels like a western cartoons at points). For those who like Splices of life mangas, I like セントールの悩み wich I believed came out recently in the us as A centaur's life. It's fairly interesting in how it deals with racisms and accomodations using realistic situation while dealing with ''monsters'' and mythological creatures. You've got Centaurs, Imps, Mermaid, Snake-People (completely unrelated to lamias) and even Angels. There's a good amount of humor, it's a peaceful read and it's interesting, I would really recommand it. The art is pretty, too, and the characters are funs. |

Its artwork attracted me and I wasn't disappointed. It is a pretty touching story. At least for me, then again, I am a huge sucker for family oriented stories. |

Hmm, let's see... Igyoujin Oniwakamaru - stumbled upon this series because I was following a black and white manga blog from tumblr; the overall story was meh, but I love reading stories where the main character seemingly gets "revived" or "miraculously survived" in catastrophic events |

Damnit, I can't believe I forgot Hinatsuri. This is the best comedy manga ever xD The art is great, the carachters are amazing and super fun, and every chapter is comedy gold. Even though it's dealing with supernatural stuff (Hina is a psychic girl), the situation are actualy believable, if you could do stuff like some of the characters can. It's also somehow serious too, in a way, with Anzu (another psychic girl) and Hitomi. The basis of the story is that one day, a loser (?) Yakuza find a girl in a weird futur-o-cocoon thing. That girl has insane power, but they go out of control if she doesn't use them regularly, so the guy somehow decides to use her for his dirty work, and eventualy becomes the second in command or something. The story is actualy quite well paced, in a slowish way. It does not feel slow, however as there is always something fun and interesting happening. Also, fairly sure one of the chapter has a strange parody of Wilson from that stranded island Tom Hanks movie I forgot the name of; where a third psy-girl makes dolls of Anzu and Hina with a ... I'm not sure what it was actualy, to become her friend xD My first taught was OMG IS WILSON... time 2 <_< I actualy wishes this was animated eventualy, it would be a great comedy anime :D |

My favorite is definitely Bloody Monday. +1 to that person who first mentioned this. +1 to the one who mentioned Life is Money too. It's a really good read, I'm so sad that they rushed the ending. Battle Royale is also great. The manga captured the essence of the novel, and the addition here and there are not that bad either. |

Going by MAL users count, Hikidashi ni Terrarium ( 54 ). The author, Ryoko Kui, was back to back winner in the top 10 list of Manga Taisho. I have a tendency to check out any award nominated series. That is not to say I'll like it in the end. In this case, I read Seven Sons of the Dragon first and decided that I am quite fond of his/her works. I found Holyland when I was looking for something similar to the Breaker~ It's plenty more realistic, just plain street fighting, with none of the martial arts hierarchy. I really loved the character development in the mc. The story itself is pretty predictable, but I didn't even care. ^^ |

[center][size=90]Ilegenes seems like a manga that nobody has ever heard of, but it's definitely my favorite. I was quite skeptical of it at first- from the cover and premise, it looked a lot like it would be shounen-ai with bishies running around sparkling and not doing much else, but it really ended up being none of those things. I was completely surprised by how dark and disturbing it could get at times. I would never have expected the manga to question things such as class structure, genetic manipulation, and the justification behind killing others just by looking at the cover. It's one of the first manga I ever read, so I don't recall how I found it ^^' It seems that I read a lot of obscure manga, actually... Rex Fabula was a pleasant surprise. I thought it might be about cute animals or something because there was a polar bear on the cover- yes, I'm guilty of judging this one by the cover- but turns out it's quite different from my expectations, with a good helping of fantasy and a little hint of a game-like structure. I haven't completed it, but it's fascinating so far. Even though it's not a 'scary' thriller per se, there's definitely a similar element that I can't quite place at the moment. Akuma ni Itsukushimi no Te wo...dang, okay, I don't know what I expected but I don't understand how one chapter could give me so many feels ;_; I've read it several times over again because even though it's just a few pages, somehow the story is really beautiful each time and woah, props to the story writer for being able to conjure such emotions within a short time! I was thoroughly impressed by this one. Kabe no Naka no Tenshi is kind of like a fairytale, set in a little town that seems vaguely historical and European, and it's got an equally romantic story about art that comes to life when the people of the small town aren't looking. It's a super cute and light read ^^ |

Nana to Kaoru Even though the premise (it's about an SM relationship) seemed to be something out of a hentai at first glance (it isn't, neither it is in terms of story, nor is it on a graphical level), it is actually properly developing its characters and showing the emotions and thoughts of the chracters doing their "sessions" (or "breathers" how they call it) and not just "lust". It really fleshes out the fact that SM is not simply a "kinky thing where one person completely dominates the other", but also something that consumes a lot of time and money to prepare and that involves a lot of responsibility by the one in control. I found it by random, gave it a very, very sceptical read at first, but it turned out much better than expected. |

So, I have one more to add to this, and that's Himouto! Umaru-chan. I started reading it to see if it would be worth watching the anime. Then I ended up finishing it in practically one go. In terms of MAL readership, two of the least-read manga on my list are U wa Uchuusen no U and 11-Nin Iru, both by Hagio Moto. The former is a collection of oneshots, manga adaptation of stories by sci-fi legend Ray Bradbury. Beautifully illustrated, and great stories, of course. My personal favourite is the title story, R is for Rocket. I read it because I found Ray Bradbury in the MAL database and was like, wtf? But it turned out to be great. And it led me to the other manga I mentioned.... The latter is a oneshot sci-fi survival/mystery story. Ten cadets are supposed to survive on an abandoned spaceship for several months - but it turns out there are 11 of them - drama, paranoia, suspicion ensues. |

offmodel said: I'm going to mention another one, based on an anime I saw years ago, Stop!! Hibari-kun! - http://myanimelist.net/manga.php?id=40981 It's a Dr. Slump-esque gag manga (that was also in Shonen Jump), about a boy named Kousaku who moves in with a yakuza family, with a transgender son, and it develops into a romantic comedy. It was never finished though (I'm pretty sure Shonen Jump cancelled it based on the ending), but if you like Dr. Slump or absurd gag manga it's great. I had only seen the anime until just now and I went back to it, the manga is surprisingly more toned down compared to the anime, which dials the humor up a lot (it adds in a crucifixion scene, decapitation, some really crazy stuff). It was done by Hisashi Eguchi, who did a lot of anime/manga style commercial art after moving on from manga. There's not a ton of info on him in English, but this blog post is worth reading. His manga Susme!! Pirates is also supposed to be great, but I haven't read it, and I don't think it's been translated. Offmodel, you bring some of the literally most obscure manga ever. This is super cool. I'm gonna try it soon. |

Dunno why I ever talked about this, but I also wanna discuss a manga I like called Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku. My friend who I'm getting to read more manga found this by clicking random manga on a manga aggregator site and recommended it to me, and it's really cool. It finished serialization in Japan, but it's still being scanlated here. Based on the subject matter, I doubt it'll ever get released in the west. What I really like about this series is that it mostly concerns itself with gender identity and sexual orientation simultaneously. There's a transgender, a tomboy who's very unsure about who she exactly is, and a girl who's a prostitute but also seems to be bisexual. All three are college students, and I think it's awesome how it can handle these topics and characters without making them erotic or, more importantly, the butt of jokes. Whenever I generally see homosexuality or transgenders in manga/anime/video games, they're the butt of jokes, and that honestly pisses me off. Like in Persona 4, it really bugs the shit out of me how homophobic Yosuke is. It's great to see a series deal with these issues in a mature and objective manner, and I wished more people read it. |

I've just discovered 邪神ちゃんドロップキック/Jashin-chan dropkick via Amazon JP recommandations (They are actualy stuff I'm interested in 99% of the time, compared to the, like, 1% from US/Canada or eBay xD). I was not dissapointed xD It is basicaly a gag manga about an human girl (There definitely more to her than it looks like, I think she's supposed to be a witch or a weird magical girl ? It was hinted in one of the chapters.) summoning a fake god; Jashin, who is a lamia demon. Jashin can't go back to hell unless the human girl (I forgot her name ._.) dies, so she always tries to kill her but her attempts are complet and hilarious failure xD She end up getting caught each and punished in various ways. I'm not usualy into unnecessary violent manga, but this was done in a fun comedical way (Plus she's immortal anyway). There is this whole hells rule and 4th wall breaking thing going, like in volume 2, Jashin died so often she lost XP and decreased two levels xD I can't wait to read more of that. (I'll be getting them eventualy because they only have like 2 volumes fanlated and it will pobably takes years to have the rest ._., it's the kind of fun fast to series I like to re-read often ^^) I don't really think it's for everyone, but I love it xD |

Bokura no Hentai is really interesting. It's about a transgirl and two boys that cross dress. (I know, it sounds weird) The one boy cross dresses as like fetish thing and the other does it because his sister died and his mother doesn't want to let her go because she was the favorite child so at home he has to pretend to be his sister. It's definitely out there and deals with some mature topics that you wouldn't expect it to but thus far it's been a pretty good read. (Despite it being listed as shounen-ai, it's not very romance centered tbh.) Kaze to Ki no Uta is really, really good. It is a yaoi but hear me out, it's so much more than that. It also has a lot of darker tones to it such as sexual assault, abuse, pedophilia, and the main character is biracial and gets rude comments about his skin occasionally. It started back in the mid 70s and unfortunately isn't fully translated but it's really different and I got hooked on it last summer. Though I haven't read it in its entirety, I heard what happens at the end and my god is the one character tragic. It's a very niche thing but if it sounds like it's your thing you'll probably really like it. Asagao to Kase-san and its sequels are also really good. It's probably the most popular of the three. It's another LGBT manga but unlike the past two, this one is yuri. I just... it's cute, it's really cute. Both girls are likable and go together very well and it doesn't feel like it panders too much to people who just use yuri to get off. It's not a sickening sweet romance either which is something I for one really appreciate. |

Kissmanga & Mangafox, in particular. If the name, cover and synopsis interest me, I'll check it out. Even if they don't, I probably still will. If I like what I see, I keep reading. I guess I'm a simple person. I do the same as you and most other people do as well, no worries. My friend also has been telling me to read Bokura no Kiseki... Guess a second opinion is enough to make me stop dragging my feet and actually do it. |

Refreshing this thread for another manga that I just read that captivated me, called Magi no Okurimono. I liked it a huge amount, to the extent that I found it amazing. It's a bittersweet romance that manages to weave in moments of levity as well as supernatural, telling a wonderful story in a manner of 6 chapters. As a huge bonus, the art is absolutely phenomenal and intricate. This might be one of my favorites, period. |

Coulomb Fille: i was reading the haruhi comic anthology and i came across art i really liked. i looked up the artists and figured out it was by yoshizuki kumichi. i read the description of the other manga he'd done and i found one that sounded ridiculously awful. so i thought "hey this'll be funny probably" and decided to give it a shot. i was hooked after 5 pages and read it in an hour. it's definitely my favorite manga of all time. |
