I really love anime, but i don't have the time to watch more than 1 episode a day. I really want to like manga, but I just can't, some times I even can't understand the pictures in the manga, please help me out!

I'm sorta the same way. I find it hard to get as immersed in it since there isn't any sound/voices. And at times it can be hard to grasp the situation if there is a lot of movement/chatter mashed together on a page.

If you get the hang of reading it, then you probably just gotta find something that can catch your interest enough to pull you into the story. Yumekui Merry (ongoing) is one of my favorites, would recommend.
EDIT: what Yazio said is a good Idea too, reading some SoL wasn't as confusing when I started.

It's just a matter of getting used to it. Read more, maybe start with series that don't have action (so that you have less problems understanding the pictures).

It happened to me when I first started watching anime. I think if you watch a series you really enjoy and you feel like you need more of it even after the anime's ended, you might feel more motivated to read its manga and maybe transition onto other manga series.

You most likely shouldn't start with an action series. Try something slower, perhaps the original of one of your favorite anime or something.
Ah, you have Harukana Machi-E on your PTR, that's a good start. One can't just jump into something they aren't used to, you must slowly get used to it, and once you do, you can move on to those that are perhaps harder to get a good grasp on.

DragonCactus has it right. Avoid mecha series at all costs, I read manga all the time and still get lost every page.

Webtoons are also a good option, they are even shorter per cahpter than manga so they can fit into any corner of your schedule and since they have color to them, it is much easier to keep track of each character.

PS: A common description of how manga is supposed to be read is that you are supposed to imagine what takes place between the images.

For me, manga is hard to get into. It takes longer to come out, and you spend a long time waiting. If you don't love all the characters then you can get burned some months and not get to see the "good" ones. So it is very tough.

Action is also very hard to read which is frustrating too.

However there are some really toughing romances out there~

You can always start with shounen manga, they are easy to read. Don't be go reading Monster or 20CB immediately (just like what I did)

Edit: You can start out on short manga. I must say I like psychological and even some romance manga better than anime ones.

It's better to start with a continuation, as in when you're done with the anime and wanted to know more about the story, then read the manga. That did it for me.

And, remember to read from right to left for manga.

Try listening to your favorite music while reading manga.

If that doesn't work, well ... just watch anime.

It took me a while to get used to reading manga and I was often confused as to the order of the pictures. Start off with older manga like Hajime no Ippo and One Piece since their layouts in the beginning are simpler.

My first manga was Rosario + Vampire, and I read that because I heard the manga was way better than the anime, which it was. Watching the anime first helped with the "putting the voice to the face" thing you mentioned, at least for me, and because the anime was basically completely different than the manga it kept it new and interesting enough for me to keep me interested (not elegantly said I know, but still). What I'm trying to say is try reading the manga of an anime that you've already seen =3

for most series i like the manga better cause the anime tends to change too much and deviate more from original source, manag also has a lot more choices/completed series and beautiful artwork. Some eg would be kuroshitsuji and Ao no exorcist. Most animes adapted in recent years also tend to be more of romance and comedy cause it makes them money

Pretty sure you can grow out of that pretty quickly.

I myself wasn't much of a fan of manga and always preferred anime. Now, I prefer manga over anime. It's just like math sometimes. The reason you can't understand it is because you say you can't. Unless you actually effort yourself into doing it or liking it, then you can. I think, not sure if I'm making sense here.

Just keep on trying. There's hundreds of ways out there. One is listening to music to keep yourself from getting distracted (that doesn't work for me, it could for you though) and imagining the voice and action sounds yourself. Also, read something with a simpler format. Also, in my opinion choose something with a simple art style- not too cluttered, though not too empty.

Sometimes though, some things just doesn't work for people. So if it doesn't really work for you, there's tons of anime around to watch. Good luck.

for beginners, if you only read action manga, it will always be a pain to read them. try mangas more down to earth like detective, drama and such.. also pick mangas which have tidy art.

I was in your situation too, i can't understand how can people enjoy that... but I can't wait for One Piece and Naruto new episode so I start reading manga at this.. to found what happen next... And that was it... Now I`m not watching too much anime.. I just read manga.. I buy the real volumes if I can .. if I had money to spend.. or read it on my tablet... ( in my opinion.. one reason for people can''t like manga is because you need to read it at compuner.. and it sucks to read on a chair... when you watch anime .. you watch in bed or sofa... same as reading manga on a tablet.. ) So... anyway... to start reading manga must start with a good series... if you start with a boring series.. thats it.. you`ll think all manga sucks... One Piece and Naruto manga is really good but fight scenes sucks.. so.. yeah.. i don't recommend to start with this...

If you want remember the childhood start with Dragon Ball series...I buy the 1-16 volumes and it is draw really well and you can understand what happen there.. :D

Manga is really enjoyable.. I hope you can read it in near future.

Manga is great :)

I entered the anime world because of One Piece. I was flipping through the CN channels when I chanced upon One Piece. After 30 seconds, my sister pulled me away and showed me REAL anime. And what do I mean by REAL anime? Subbed. (No offense INTENDED). Though at first I really didn't like subtitles, I grew accustomed to it. I started watching other series as well. My sister would tell me was happening "in the future" of One Piece, and I would always badger her to tell me more. Eventually, I think it was she who introduced me to manga as well. I just wanted more One Piece! LMAO. :D It was a bit weird at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Since then, I've been reading manga for now... at least 7 years. Even still there are series that get confusing. I think The Breaker had a few chapters that kept switching between left to right, and right to left. You just read a few pages and if it doesn't make sense then go back and try reading it the opposite way. A good tell though is setting. If you see a big left panel, and two half sized panels to the right of it, then it's probably left to right. If it's vice versa then it's right to left. Also, if you had two equally sized panels for instance, side by side and you don't know which is the right way to read it, then try LOOKING at the panels. Sometimes the right one will have a boat in the middle of the sea, and left one will have a close up on the character who is fishing on that boat. Just by looking at the pictures, you'd be able to tell that in this case, it would go from right to left.

Webtoons are a bit annoying with reading confusions. I can never remember which side to read them. I know that korean manwha and webtoons tend to be left to right, but I don't think they all follow that rule... Thankfully it doesn't matter too much, because you just read from up to down anyway. Bubbles don't tend to be side to side :)

Anyway, you just get used to it. If you want start out with Manwha, or Korean Manga. They go from left to right, and can help you get used to the format of reading the boxes.

Once you get used to reading manga, it's actually quite enjoyable. For series that have anime adaptations, like One Piece, I can legit "hear" their voices as I read. For many series I sometimes THINK I saw the scene in the anime, when in reality the scene hadn't even been adapted yet! For instance, Hajime No Ippo! I thought one of the comedy scenes I love so much, was a scene I saw in the anime! But in fact... NOPE. :P Goes to show that once you get used to the medium, you don't notice the colors, lack of sound or animation. It's kinda awesome how that works :D

How come? Manga is obviously the superior one, ohohohoho.

edit: They're different mediums so obviously you're going to have different opinions of them. Evidently from my lists, I don't like anime as much as I do manga, and there's no problem with that. People like what they like. Chillax it's normal. ;)

I kinda had the same problem, but I'm alright with reading manga now just not hours at a time. My problems usually stemmed from messy artwork, inability to tell which panels come first (which is annoying as hell when the mangaka tries to be really creative with panel placement), inability to tell who is saying what and the fact that I need to interact instead of lay back and enjoy like I do with my anime.

It takes a while to get into manga. I'd recommend just reading a few chapters of whatever you're wanting to read and keep continuing with it that way. At the very least you'll be able to read your manga and keep up with your daily life.

I was also anime person who avoided manga for a long time and the first I read was Death Note and I couldn't stop. I haven't even watched the anime.
I love reading manga with the voices of the characters ^^ . You just need to start with the anime you enjoy the most cos that won't bore you and try to read the manga.

Manga are better than anime, but I find it easier to sit and watch an anime than to get into a manga. For manga I need to be in the right mood, and my manga reading moods aren't always that common, but when I'm in the mood I can read a lot in a short time. Catching up on Hajime no Ippo and Magician was good fun. :D

I really like both because I like to see where the people producing the anime change thing up. I do tend to like the manga over the anime 9 times out of 10 though because there is more detailed description of things than in a series, such as minor conversations and the different characters thoughts.

Like for instance if you saw alice academy and thought it was cute the Manga was 100 times better in my opinion. just for the stuff they actually changed, and it was too short. Then OVA's I ALWAYS tend to like the manga better because it tells the whole story and if you do not read it you can get kind of lost.

Manga, like any other print form, requires turning your imagination up a little more than you need it at for watching anime or other TV shows, as TV is a mentally passive form of entertainment. Manga is a bit more engaging because some of the visual presentation is left up to you as the reader to imagine, and if you're not engaging your imagination it'll seem boring.

Diving straight into an action series without having read any comics in any form (be it manga, western print comics, or webcomics) can be a bit jarring, though, as there are a lot of stylistic conventions that convey motion actions, some of which carry over between the various regional unwritten standards.

Alice Academy. I first tried the anime and it was waaaaay too cutesy and happy go lucky. Gave up after 6 episodes? I liked the premise though and tried the manga. For some reason, it's easier for me to read ULTRA shojo series than to watch them. That being said, the manga is not as cutesy as the anime made the series out to be. It's much darker surprisingly. The tone isn't as cheerful either. It's just different, and I was able to catch up within a few hours with the manga.

Shojo manga tend to be better than shojo anime. Shounen anime tend to be better (VISUALLY) than shounen manga. Seinen manga tend to be better than seinen anime... and josei? I don't think I've watched any josei anime, but the manga isnt bad. I've only started reading Yaoi, and even that was difficult. That being said, I just don't have the capacity to reach even further into my "trying new things" conviction to WATCH it lmao. The manga is quick though so you can skip anything unpleasant (or skim it) so you legit dont miss any dialogue or anything important... while in anime you can't do that :/

There's thousands of completed series w/ 20+ chapters out there. Also, if you try an ongoing series, check all the past chapter release dates to make sure it's consistent. Some series aren't, like HxH because of raw releases. Others aren't because of fan translators lacking.

Now I am coming to realize that there are different way for me to enjoy a anime and a manga, both of which are very enjoyable if done right.

I was the same way for a couple of years after I started getting into anime. I would sometimes try to pick up random manga series but was never able to get into them. The format felt really odd to me whenever I tried to read manga. I randomly decided to try another manga series again, and I happened to really like the story and became hooked on it. After that, I figured out what kind of genres of manga I enjoyed and found myself enjoying manga more and more as I got used to the format and how to read it. It was just a matter of coming across that first manga series that I actually liked. Things just came naturally after that.

well i somehow managed to balance it :) but i have many friends, which don't understand mangas, they watch animes (only detective conan, naruto and one piece) and tell me that mangas are only pictures, there is no atmosphere and they can't imagine how they can show a proper fight with impact and emotions. they even haven't tried it once and come up with that conclusion, they lack with experience i think.
I only watched Animes at the beginning until i started only to read mangas after a year... i'm reading mangas for 6 years and only now i started to watch anime and read mangas daily in a balanced way.

It's honestly like comparing book series with their tv show adaptations. Most people only watch the series, and thus vouch for this tv series. Now, most of those who not only watch, but also read the series, vouch for the book series over the tv series.

You guys are basically saying that the printed series isn't good (without REALLY trying it) because there's no sound or moving visuals. That's completely alright to say, cause it's true and it's one of the reasons I do in fact watch anime versions too. That being said, it doesn't speak for the content.

Eventually on a whim I started to read a manga for a series that I wanted to see more of after the anime ended, and I couldn't be happier that I did.

I might be the only person on MAL who finds watching anime is harder than reading manga. But the reason for that is because I'm way too picky for my own good. I know I could just drop the anime series, but if the plot & art look horrible at first, the series doesn't have a chance.

Depends on the series is what I think. I'd rather read Naruto and Bleach manga because they don't have fillers and annoying gags. The only anime I watch now are Gintama and Black Lagoon and that's more because I want to watch something rather than read.

Need to get used to them. I had the same issues at first but I later got accustomed to them.

Try out simple manga first. Romance comedy are usually the best ones to get used to the drawings. Also, some artist simply go too overboard with the drawings so it is difficult to understand.
