Oh man, Dougram 44 is a perfect piece of stress-inducing classic espionage plot.

43 was very good too, and I especially liked the mini-arc about the Federation recruit who became obsessed with avenging his unit - it seemed so much more convincing than, say, the character of Jerid in Zeta Gundam.

I'd agree there. It was certainly the weakest episode - but at the same time Crinn and his friends are approaching their conflicts throughout the series a fair bit more sensibly than, say, half of the conflict resolution in Gundam which boils down to "throw a tantrum" "get punched" or "run away."

Either way, it looks like next week's episode offers some resolution to this arc, and knowing Takahashi it will probably be satisfying.

Exactly. Tomino's characters usually gave us more headaches with their behaviour than Takahashi's.

I'm looking forward to next episode.

About episode 45 of Dougram.

Finally High Speed Jecy has been fansubed,at least the first episode, for the first time I think (including VHS days) by Anime Classic Reviews (ACR). Man, how I waited for this one.

Robin episode 6 is out too.

I've also watched the first episode of Galaxy Cyclone Bryger that I discovered on X-nebula blog. Pretty funny stuff with good characters, more mecha anime of the same, but it was cool. The character designs reminded me of Lupin ones somehow.

[EDIT]
Added it to the database. Mostly stole the relevant info from AniDB. Just hope I did it right.

Bryger was created by the Lupin guy as well, so that's probably why you thought that. ;)

That series has two big sequels too, so that's quite a big mecha series we have yet to really know about. Really hope someone picks it up someday.

Main issue with Braiger that I found is the dialogue is an utter pain to work out because it's not formal, standard Japanese.

Reminds me of when Crinn really really hated some of the earlier episodes of Dougram because of the few characters with cigars constantly in their mouth, sounded like nothing but mumbles. I commend him a lot for getting past that stuff, lol.

This technically isn't old school, but I figure this thread is perfect to announce subs for Votoms Phantom Arc episode 1 are out! Perfect timing to follow up with Shining Heresy.

Group is Formula, check it out here:
http://evaforum.com/formulasub/

The guy heading the project notes in an earlier post he's already spent $140 on Blu-Ray releases for this, so I'd say... must be a pretty hardcore Votoms fan. Makes it sound pretty promising they'll see this through.

Dougram 47 out, one of the weaker episodes in my mind.

I wasn't entirely convinced with
Similarly, the mech fight seemed a bit half-assed compared to some we've seen. Seeing the energy shots just bouncing off Dougram as if it had an I-Field was quite jarring - I'd have preferred to see them dissipate against the shield or something.

That said, it wasn't a bad episode at all.

I'm so glad Bro-Lord finished Shining Heresy before the first Phantom Arc episode was released. I probably would have jumped right on the new series and would have found myself in major spoilerville. I found the end of Shining Heresy to be really shocking!

Seems like Digi-Anime will not release the rest of Kabuto series until they get hold of the rest of the subbed DVDs. Yeah, they were DVD rippers and only are interested in ripping already translated anime.
So, Kabuto jumps to the "Stalled List".

Straight from the shoutbox.

"Episode 15 of Captain Tsubasa was released by Frenchie-Subs.

Definitely worth the download fellows.
I've just watched the first episode and even a little scene of it beats the crap out of crappy "Giant Killing" so far.

Highly recommended!"

Also. I've seen episode 49 and 50 of Xabungle uploaded by someone earlier today. Why would they do it since it's being already fansubbed? Me wonders...

Hokuto No Gun released 7 Otokojuku episodes. They don't plan on continue releasing the series until they've bought the next set though.

Still great news because the series was stalled by another fansub at the sixth episode some time ago as some of you may remember.

And it seems like a good time to start watching Raideen!

It's a very solid super robot show with plenty of the things you come to expect - short skirts, shouting, absurd enemy designs and plenty of fighting and humour.

EDIT: Dougram 49 is out!

I watched the series up to the third episode, and the so far it was being pretty average, the animation didn't helped either, now with their stalling the project i don't know if I'll watch the rest of it.

On other news, looks like Hokuto No Gun Fansubs not only are keeping up with Otokojuku but with Genshi Shounen Ryuu as well.
So I'll add them to the list.

Added projects of Takara Fansubs to the list;
Takarajima
Nobody's Boy Remi
Romeo no Aoi Sora
Nobody's Girl Remi

Takara Fansubs is a new fansub that translates anime from french and release them in english. I'm not particularly fan of that practice, because many stuff can be "Lost In Translation", but for now, is the best around.
Except maybe for ANN's translation of Nobodys Boy Remi. But that's for someone who has access to both files, to compare the translation.

Romeo and Nobody's Girl Remi are stalled with only the first episode released from both, the other two had episodes released last month. Hope they resume them. Coincidently or not, their both ongoing projects are Dezaki series.

------------------

On other news, Dougram is keeping up with the regular releases (and I have some 5 or 6 episodes to watch already).
Finally the 5th Saint Seiya episode was released after so many months of the nice start of the fansub.
An the fourth episode of Daimos was released too.

Holy crap! *Bows down to Takara Fansubs*

I was already lucky enough to collect Nobody's Boy Remi when it was released on DVD here. So it's really nice seeing streaming, fansubbed and getting some of the attention it deserves. It's absolutely fantastic.

I'm drooling at the thought of replacing my old Romeo's Blue Skies files. I've already seen the show four times and it's easily my favorite WMT that I've seen.

Nobody's Girl Remi speaks for itself.

Takarajima! I've been waiting on this one for so long!

I just skimmed thought the first episode of Romeo's Blue Skies. Well for starters there is no comparison in terms of video quality. The original fansubs were released a long time ago and were probably VHS rips. I never had a problem with the translation though.

Takara Fansubs is an overall improvement. Gets a thumbs up. One of my new favorite groups. =)

I myself really need to check out Zambot and Daitarn. Zambot looks interesting because for one, it's very short for a 70's anime, and two because it started the 'kill 'em all' phase of Tomino's career.

Daitarn looks bizarre as hell.

Daitarn is very much a comedy show with giant robots. Think James Bond at its campiest and give him a giant robot. That just about sums it up.

Zambot 3 was apparently Tomino getting revenge on the people who commission giant robot shows.

Awesome, that sounds like an amazing watch. I know there are obviously torrents and stuff, but I think I'll wait until a batch is released before I watch Daitarn.

Also, revenge?
