It's funny how dramatic people get over one bad episode.

It's like they waiting for Toei to slip once over 10 episodes so they can run around and tell everyone "Toei fucking sucks, I told you!"

@Dahaka_ ? Is it our fault if Toei screws up on a consistent basis? Are we supposed to lick their boots even when they release shitty episodes like this one?

Saturn is a bum who only got regen going for him. Kizaru is the one who radiates aura. Bro is up before Luffy, which should tell you a lot.


All of should be familiar with the anime pacing by now. Just because there's a streak of good episodes doesn't mean it's the standard. Sooner or later it's bound to get worse again. This for one as transition episode was ideal to be "sacrificed" The staff gotta prioritize.

Also regarding catching up to the manga, things only getting tougher with less One Piece chapters to adapt each year.

@Wayne_Flow Sooooo Tomohiro Higashi was mostly in the position of Assistant Episode Director on the One Piece anime for about 3 years, helping out directors such as Ryota Nakamura, Nozomu Shishido, Satoshi Itou, Toshinori Fukazawa, Katsumi Tokoro, Yasuhiro Tanabe, Kenichi Takeshita, and even Yasunori Koyama and Yusuke Suzuki once before. I don't think the problems of this episode were 100% his fault since he's being put in a complicated situation here with how little was given to him, this episode was clearly being sacrificed and it wasn't really the best way to debut someone like Higashi, so here's hoping he can direct another episode under better circumstances (here's a fun fact: he directed and boarded one of the eye-catchers for Egghead part 1)

Tokoro did the storyboard for the episode though; I'm assuming it's to help Higashi get the gist of how to execute other people's boards, maybe we might even see him board his own episodes soon, who knows?

@UnofficialRank of course, the problem isn't with the episode's director. The problem is that this episode was adapted from 10 pages of manga, where nothing happens except for a hug between Kuma and Bonnie and a brief confrontation with Saturn. It reminds me of the sumo guy episode directed by Yusuke Suzuki. He is a great director, but he didn't have enough material to make this episode good.

@Wayne_Flow Oh yeah, absolutely. I think what's overlooked is that sometimes the content being adapted in an episode of low importance might not be the most exciting thing out there. For this episode in particular I understand the criticism and disappointment to an extent because it's just recap for the most part and I get wanting better treatment for this.

It's a case of the episode having to be recap for other episodes up ahead to have more of a buffer, which is understandable. It's basically a repeat of #903 (albeit the management of that episode and that portion of Act 1 of Wano was very strange)
