Let’s go, Jeju Island Arc is finally beginning next week. Sung Jinwoo is one of the best hunters now, I really want to see his abilities.

Too bad Sung Woo didn't join, but ... he said he was able to send soldiers to 5 shadows, does that mean he can instantly exchange in position with one of the soldier/shadow, so essentially he's able to teleport to the island, right?

Even considering that, this episode was amazing... Can't wait for the next one!

banger episode, great cliffhanger

still prefer the manhwa in a couple areas (the sparring matches + “the” ant’s appearance. also didn’t get to see the A-rank spar) but 9/10 regardless!!

Somehow, I think Jinwoo is slightly arrogant in this episode. However, I don't blame him since it's his right to feel that way.

Meruem is here lol but seriously how fucking similar these ants are to the chimera ants of Hunter X Hunter lol, if the author says he didn't take inspiration from that he's lying. Anyway, that part where the hunters have a "friendly sparring", I read that on the webtoon cause I got curious around 2 weeks ago about what comes next, and man it really feels and looks way better in the anime.

If that evolved ant is strong enough to behead an S rank with 2 other S ranks there without being detected, then they got their hands full for sure. I wonder what if the implanted shadow she had will trigger Jinwoo's attention. The episodes always seem too short, damnit!
@Rezurrekt

There are S ranks and then there are S ranks. One of the show's problems is that it has no way to distinguish between the S ranks, which means it's difficult to quantify Jin Woo's ongoing growth or the relative strength of most of the primary side characters. It's explained in the show (they literally say that S rank is used for people too powerful to measure), but that doesn't change the fact that it's an issue for storytelling.

@amf85 well their is a "rank" above S-rank wich will prob be explained next episode, but yeah theirs never a real comparison between any of the ranks in the series and since the power lvl resolves around jinwoo S-ranks might aswell be E-ranks at this point in time.

A1 is cutting so many character moments from these episodes... and it's not like they are cutting scenes that would take up much screen time. Like cutting Baek's reacting to Jinwoo not being on the raid list. Or not showing Goto's reaction once the faceoff with Jinwoo was stopped by others. It just makes the side characters even more 1-dimensional and the side characters were already the weakest part of the manhwa/lightnovel.

@Kirasaya That's actually an interesting answer. I hadn't considered the "why bother differentiating between S-Ranks, they might as well all be the same compared to Jin-Woo" angle.

Loved this episode, but fights were kinda too intense.. everyone looked like they want to kill each other just to gauge their strengths... looks like their IQ get lower with more power...
animation was nice
I don't think that MC choice to not go was good, but at least he can switch with some of his shadows and appear there...
I wonder if Queen ant or the new Goku-like ant will be stronger?

So this is the story "fleshed out"? I'm sorry but what is this about the manga being... ah, forget it.

It's like trying to put your hand into what you think is a small, still puddle of water and it's actually a piece of very shiny plastic.

It reminds me of a time when someone called csm something like "a mature story for intellectual young adults". I chuckled. This time not even. I thought it could not get much worse, but now that even the "let's brutally murder a somewhat agreeable, apparently faultless side character in a way that makes no sense and for no other purpose than to be gory and edgy, even though it's evident that jinwoo will win regardless and no main or main related characters will die" box has been filled, there's not many left.

I'd argue that random gore in an action show is always a great kick, especially when we weren't forced to sympathize with a character before they were mutilated. It's a random girl that no one cares about. Creates tension and shock, without emotionally manipulating the viewer.
I would think it was forced if she got a sad ass backstory about a sick mom and then they did her in. That'd just be pathetic.

Hi, I'm no one. I even just said how it can't possibly create tension. It's true that if she had a whole episode backstory like overlord's tomb raiders it would have been pathetic, still never able to be something like goblin slayer episode 1 because that one, as awful as it was, kinda made sense.

Instead, this one is cheap and unnecessary. But I guess that's kinda on brand for this series. Wouldn't have hated it this much if at least they had seen it coming and died fighting or something, not being absolutely unprofessional and unreasonably letting their guard down like that, but again, that's the brand since s1 ep 1.

Every episode has something that makes me think that the writer never had the "I guess people won't just buy that, should think this one through one more time" moment. Like the first draft always made the cut, as retarded as it was. Shiny plastic though. Art good, animation good, monkey brain activates, masterpiece.
@IhnalakoKaina

Dude. THe quickness and how easier it mutilated her as an S rank hero is supposed to show how fucking strong the ant is.

So I tried to reread the manhwa for this part to see if there's any difference.

  1. This episode covers chapters 92 to 96.
  2. As usual, they cut most of the hunters' inner monologue on the spar to shorten the duration.
  3. They don't show us Goto draining in cold sweat after he fought Jinwoo. Either they removed it altogether or they saved it for a future episode. Maybe when Goto fights the OP giant ant?
  4. They show us how the internet criticizes Jinwoo for not joining the raid.
  5. They kinda censored the severed head with SFX text.

So I guess they'll cover the whole Jeju island arc for 3-4 episodes. Fair enough.

I suggest better to read manhwa instead of seeing anime

bcoz they are cutting some much scenes

There’s National Rankers like Thomas Andre who are equally as powerful as a country’s military so there you go idk why the anime did not mention it lmao and instead called him S-rank hopefully they mention it later.

They should have kiled the ants way earlier instead of doing 4 raids when they knew they could evolve. How did they even fail the first 2 raids when the ants were much weaker?

When I was a kid I used to get excited about anime where characters were killed off, it was cool and daring. Now I'm 32 and I don't want anyone to die on screen. I'm tired of it. I think if they keep doing this, I probably won't watch season 3.

I will be the first person to tell yes go prioritise your family specially after such a long waited reunion. BUT it's a national threat neglecting it may harm more people and puts your family at danger. Now that japanese girl already ded and many more probably dies.

Things will also go south ig and then same predictable as swooping in last to save the day huh....

Writing can never be good in this show I just have to accept it.

OK WTF was that? I feel like the anime has done quite a good job at adapting the manwha, but this episode was the first time where I feel they really messed up and did the story a huge disservice. I'm referring to Jinwoo's fight with Goto. Goto is supposed to be the strongest hunter in Japan and the Korean hunters give the sense that he's stronger then all of them. So when him and Jinwoo fight it's supposed to be a big deal and for us as readers (watches in this case) and chance to see just how he stacks up to other hunters and the anime totally gives off a completely wrong feeling. In the manwha when Jinwoo fights him he terrifies Goto so much that he's left a shell of himself panicking that he was going to die. It was the first real time when we actually get a sense that Jinwoo is actually way above any hunter. But in the anime they make it seem like that maybe he's stronger.

I know this might seem small and petty, but the anime and manwha really do convey a very different feeling and compared to the manwha when you're left thinking, ok Jinwoo is levels above these other people. In the anime you're just left like, I guess he's strong. Such a cool, character defining scene for Jinwoo that got ruined.

The sparring match was fun to watch. It was a mostly one-sided affair, although Cha Hae-In did perform really well against her opponent. After that, it became a battle between Goto and Sung and the two of them got into their battle so easily, it had to be interrupted. I wouldn't be surprised if the building itself would be destroyed had their battle continued on! XD

After that, it got back to the serious operation for the Jeju Island raid and the build-up towards the operation's start was pretty cool. I did expect Sung to join, but he didn't. Considering how much hard work he went to get the elixir of life to help his mother to recover recently, I can't blame him for wanting to stay behind and take it easy.

However, the raid itself looks to be a hellish one and saying that feels like an understatement. A newly hatched ant is beyond OP that it killed that poor S-rank Japanese healer in a blink of an eye. With the main raid team inside the caverns and the biggest threat to them outside, I can only see more unfortunate deaths as the raid goes on...

Great episode. Surprised to see Jin woo not participate in the island raid. The levels and experience he'd get would be insane.. However, I'm pretty sure he will eventually end up there.. as strong as those S rankers are... they are gonna need him for sure.

The sparring between S-rank hunters, Korea vs Japan. Cha finally fights seriously and defeats her opponent, Kanae the battle of best girl in their respective countries, but the three other Korean hunters lost. It follows with a pretty epic sparring match between Jinwoo and the strongest Japanese hunter Goto and manages to hold his own and ends in a draw. The raid starts with most Korean S rank hunters going to Jeju island but Jinwoo thinks they are strong enough to win without him. The raid starts so well but then one of the Japanese dies. It's so sad and shocking that Shimizu died like that after just getting to know her. That ending was for sure shocking but the boss and monsters seem to always prioritise the healers first.

so what? jinwoo will lose then? why are they letting their guard down anyways? What about the guys at the A rank dungeon where the ogres were at? They were relatively powerless but weren't made out to be idiots. The enemies were op but nobody needed to die in order to prove it.

Also, why not kill the other 2 before they can realize what happened and have a dramatic pause to look at the girl's body? If it's so powerful, it didn't need to leave the nest, could've just waited there for the guys coming after the queen. Doesn't need to target the healers first because a cut head is impossible to stitch up. What was the shadow soldier jinwoo put on everyone even for?

And all this inconsistency is unique to that one scene. The whole deal makes no sense. As in why not just nuke it or bombard it? Why are Japan and korea the only ones dealing with it?

It better not be that the ant has "a terrifying presence" or some shit, that makes it even more nonsensical that nobody knew a huge ass fucking bug was coming.
