While this makes sense given this guy's nature it also feels too convenient, again. But it was good watching Nowak's entire world come crashing infront of him. Truly a big fish in a small pond.

Damn. All the killings, loss of his daughter, all for nothing. I mean we know that but it's not too hard to imagine how devastating it is for Nowak to hear.

God, that confrontation between Nowak and Antoni was untenably tense. With every new sentence out of the bishop's mouth, it felt like a force was wrapping around me and constricting tighter. When the realization came to Nowak that he was the only inquisitor and that he was always kept as an "outside contractor" so he wouldn't be a direct representative of the Church, it felt like I was about to pass out.

The action at the beginning of the episode was nice! I liked Draka and Schmidt's escape. Dude was a real one. RIP.

With the combat inevitable, it's time for Schmidt and his Liberation Front men to protect Draka.

In a few short hours, Schmidt knows that he might not see the sunrise, but at least he got to know the people who shared the same cause, floating over Nowak and Asch's control as Schmidt's men act as decoy to stop the knights from approaching Draka. At least Schmidt went out in glory with his convictions and the fate he chose in believing the cosmos, as Draka appraches the nearest town requesting to meet the Bishop for a profit venture of selling heliocentrism in book form. Though to the Church this is still considered blasphemy, but the Bishop making an exception to the one rule where the cosmos isn't suppressed, he may allow it, but only on his conditions since it's very sensitive material.

Indeed, Nowak followed Draka all the way to the Church and encountering Biship Antoni, though his complaint about heliocentrism just got swayed by the one question that puts him on second thought and develops a discussion of religion against the cosmos. And it's precisely his role as a theologian that proves that God is linked with the ideology of heliocentrism, plus his past where his father's strict adherence on astronomy, it was all a scandal of a misunderstanding that the cosmos was blasphemy.

In the end, Nowak was the only villain, deceived by the authority to suppress the blasphemy, which wasn't one to begin with. All those killings for naught.

Schmit really put in the work for her. Held off the pursuers and stabbed most through. Reminds me of Oczy with his reasoning for being, but he did come to the realization he chose this route. He can die with no regrets.

And we have footprints now..

Approaching the bishop with an essentially heretical proposal, that's a whole different can of worms. Suppose somebody in history would have needed to raise the question, and in this show she's doing it. Doing it for an 80/20 split though is criminal surely. Just how much of a profit margin is the Church going to get from her work?

But hey, that bishop is doing a decent job shutting down the inquisition. Talk about an open minded religious figure.

Nowak remembers the names of the people he killed still.. rip. He got handed the ultimate L.

Draka had already proven that she had guts in the previous episodes, but this was something else. She not only took the possible risk but also managed to convince Antoni.

Sadly Nowak still doesn't know the fate of her daughter and seeing his like this sadness me, it's true that he was a character that you can like but he is someone you can sympathies for. All he did was for her daughters happiness and that she never suffers in future.

From how the battle at the house was portrayed, there's no way that the heretic soldiers did not beat the inquisitors.

The inquisitors had a dysfunctional leader, maybe even less numbers, and no way to break the shield formation. Plus all the heretics are well-armed and more skilled than the inquisitor greenhorns. There's no reason why they wouldn't win and then sell the books somehow.

Wow this is the end of Nowak's character? Maybe he'll find out about Jolenta next episode, but I kinda doubt it. A very depressing story for him. This is not how I expected the story to go in this second timeskip, and this is quite the twist, but I think I like it.

Schmidt has become an another sacrificial lamb, as he protected Draka from Nowak's army. Finally, this is such a huge slap to Nowak as he knows that he's the only one who keeps suppressing the heliocentrism. I love the twist and the revelation in this episode.

Antoni the greedy money grubber being a the voice of reason and a champion for logic, and helping heliocentrism was NOT the twist I was expecting. wtf. Absolutely wild.

And in his youth, wasn't he the one who also was persecuting against heliocentrism, before he actually started to think about its status as heresy in present day?

Incredible writing.

Kenjiro Tsuda's range with Nowak's transformation from an arrogant intimidating youth to a tragic desperate old man now... was incredible VA work.

I've never been so immersed in a philosophical anime before. The story and dialogue are truly intellectual, making it one of the hidden gems. RIP Schimdt you will be remembered. Masterful storytelling and writing.

RIP Schmitt, even though his death was very expected, it's still sad :(

Nowak got a whole life lesson from Antoni there, I don't really trust him but thanks to him the book might be published.

Thought the heliocentrism oppression was common, but turns out it wasn't the case after all. Not once did Nowak stopped and really think about what he's doing. Well, why would he when he enjoys the job so much. Thought either Rafal or Jolenta's execution would be the eye-opening event for him, but his mind still remains closed. Karma really hits hard.

Nowak finally realised he was wrong for suppressing heliocentrism after 35 years, such a cathartic moment.

Antoni pretty much made him question his entire life's work in just a few minutes, that's some strong emotional damage right there.

I don't know how to feel about this, it was a crappy twist, this is supposed to be the climax and for a climax this felt very underwhelming. First of all, Draka is lucky as hell that she pulled this stunt with the current bishop, 25 years in the past she would be hanged by her ovaries if she tried to pull that same shit with the other maniacal bishop and with Jolenta's dad around, yeah, I don't even want to mention his name, I hate that mother fucker, great villain though.

So it all comes down to a single open-minded bishop to twist it around, he's still a piece of shit for trying to kill Jolenta though, and this happened right at the ending so it was very convenient, none of this would have worked a couple of years in the past, but suddenly in the ending it suddenly worked, it's way too convenient for my taste.

Not a bad anime, maybe a little overrated, but not bad, I give it an 8/10 so far. Let's see how the last 3 episodes hold up, because this plot twist wasn't that great.

Not just Nowak but it made us the viewers believe Heliocentrism was this huge taboo at the time.
He still can't believe it nor do I blame him knowing you've dedicated your entire life to a "misunderstanding", even losing your own daughter to it.
Blind faith is a bitch isn't it Nowak?

Fantastic episode!

I ended up flicking through Ep 17 and Ep 14 to make sense of the flashbacks of Ep 21 (Frei traitor) and Ep 22 (bishop Antoni)
- Looking back, AMAZING symmetry with Frei shouting at Schmidt to repent, that he’s giving him mercy, almost word for word what his uncle said before killing Frei’s father in the ep 17 flashback
- Ep 14 I see Antoni as the guy cooking up a fake case to off Jolenta, merely to bump Nowak from his post, because Nowak got aligned to some bishop.
But who was the bishop Nowak was apparently aligned with anyway? We only got some image of him from behind, but had we seen this Bishop, and/or Antoni’s father in previous episodes? I do not recall.
