Oh man Nowak...this guy really is willing to do anything for his famil.

The dark sceneries continues in this episode but I liked the chereography of the scenes under the moon. I think Nowak shouldn't be overlooked in this anime for what he fights for. He's one of the more interesting characters imo. Wasn't also expecting some action this time but that turned violent fast.

@Stark700 To me, it feels like Nowak will be the main character by the end. He is terrifying but his interactions with Rafal at the end show that he is someone who understands more than he is willing pursue, at least for the time being. Maybe this revelation about Badeni and his daughter's shared work will alter things for him moving into the next arc.

HOLY SHIT WHAT A CLIFFHANGER. Can not wait for that Nowak and Oczy fight next week! Just wrap up the AOTS award already. Anxiety was thru the roof in this episode.

I knew Nowak was onto them, once he smells blood he’s on the hunt, but seeing Oczy go on the attack rather than waiting for Nowak to come arrest them was amazing. So far in the show we’ve seen Rafal and other “heretics” get arrested, tried and burned, but Oczy is the first to actually put up a fight and go out on his terms(assuming he dies next week). This really is a good way to tie up his character arc since his whole thing has been living on his own terms and doing what he wants to.

Badeni reading Oczy his last rites was one of the best scenes of the year too! Pure chills there. Badeni talked down on him a lot, but you can really feel the tremendous amount of respect he has for Oczy in that moment. Heliocentrism isn’t just a theory for him, but a genuine faith and something he’s determined to help advance.

Putting the necklace on right in front of Nowak, taking out the other inquisitors, fuck that’s a bad ass scene if I’ve ever seen one. This episode was a big coming out party for Oczy with standing up to Badeni and challenging him philosophically, as well as Nowak physically.

I’m still worried about Jolenta though.. Will Nowak go after his own daughter as well?? 😩 I hope this buys Badeni enough time too. Can not wait for next episode, thank God this is two cour.

The one inquisitor running away and dying by his own blade is hilarious too lmao

Imo, Rafal put up a fight in his own way by killing himself rather than recanting.

@Marinate1016 I thought they were burning his corpse. Maybe to make a point, or to hide the embarrassment of allowing a heretic to end his own life.

Also, they mention that a burnt body cannot come back to life on judgment day, so burning after death is still a punishment.

Whichever it is, I guess the effect is the same: he went out on his own terms, and the Church could not hurt him in any meaningful way.

EDIT: re-watched Episode 3, and he hangs his head as he dies, which immediately cuts to him tied to the stake in the same pose; I think he was already dead. In case you were curious.

Fairly certain he was alive but anyway fair enough on him fighting back. yes as a catholic I can confirm that was the logic back in that era and even now is why a lot of people don’t want to be cremated.

he would prefer dying and maintain his hope alive (or faith in the heliocentrism theory), than continue living, but with his hope destroyed, really speaks volumes on how much Oczy grew as character

While I was watching, I wasn't really convinced about Oczy willing to lay down his life, but it makes a little more sense reading your summary.

Oczy as a character feels so strange and fresh to me, and I respect the writers for adding a character like this. In a show about the search for knowledge, he is not an academic at all, and he doesn't really understand the subject. But he thinks things through at his own pace. He makes up his mind after carefully observing the people around him. And he does his best to voice his thoughts and reach out to others.

He sometimes sounds a little too wise, especially compared to how "slow" he usually behaves, but... I really like this character's earnestness and insight. He recalled his own past, his boss, Count Piast and Badeni, decided on his own that this thing is worth protecting, and had enough awareness to call it "faith." Then he commits, all the way. And even then, when asked if he's afraid to die, Oczy doesn't say "no." He just says, "we'll find out soon enough."

Definitely rooting for him, and I think he's worth a close look.

Since last Saturday, I’ve been eagerly waiting to see what would happen in this episode. I expected Badeni and Oczy to meet their end, but the author skillfully maintained the tension, which was absolutely fabulous.

The evolution of Oczy’s character is remarkable. He started out as someone terrified of looking at the stars, believing that Earth was a version of hell and that celestial beings were watching him. This obsession with the sky gave way to a profound transformation. Through his exposure to heliocentrism, he found motivation and enthusiasm, even though he knew this idea might prevent him from reaching heaven after death.

Badeni’s development is equally compelling, and seeing these characters grow adds so much depth to the story. Now, we’re left waiting another week to see what will happen next. Probably Oczy will die, even though I’m not ready to say goodbye.

Orb is a masterpiece and undoubtedly the anime of the year

Just as things were starting to go smoothly and the theory had some basis Nowak went back into the spotlight and his relationship with Jolenta was the key factor. He's the most menacing character I've seen in anime for a while not only because of his job but his behaviour and attitude. You never truly know what he's thinking and how far will he go in pursuit of his goal but alas his observational skills are part of what also makes him a really god antagonist.

Oczy has really grown from the first time we've seen him, from someone unable to see the sky at night due to his religious beliefs to now contributing legitimately to the debate of how to investigate. His points are not only valida but understandably in contention with how at the time people used to aim for in their research and I could be prouder since not long ago he couldn't even read. Oczy represents growth, change of perspectives, fear, excitement and hope, one that may easily die in the next episode with Nowak taking out another representative of heliocentrism while the general idea still longer among the public.

This is a really engaging show.

Bro really said ''It's Orbin time'' and Orbed out on the inquisitors, achieving Orb instinct and easily catching crossbow bolts with his bare hands.

With the show's realism on combat, I expected him to get shot to death, crazy how this show keeps surprising me.

Anime of the year, I swear Nowak attitude and his behavior make him such a menacing and compelling character the symbolism in this episode the character development of oczy is great his speech and his resolved to believe in heliocentrism that he's ready to fight for it with his life is just amazing knowing what he was in his first appearance.

Oczy vs Nowak, easily the hypest face off this season.

Also love the who ran off. Classic words versus actions character is hilarious to see in this type of down to earth drama. He was ready to fire a crossbow at him but he wasn’t ready to actually risk his life in a sword fight.

Well that was intense, I'm so glad for Oczy, but, the "spoiler" that's technically not a spoiler, the very first scene of the anime, I'm totally not with hope on him.

But i do love Oczy, he grow up on me even more the Rafal, but that's probably because he have more episodes, and a bigger arc, coming from the really coward executor (with reason) for the F-ing "Heliocentrism in my faith" Guy.

And that title made think that Badeni would send Oczy to the inquisitors, for questioning his methods, but thankfully i was 100% wrong

Such a damn good and tense episode as a whole. This is the one time I'm really glad I haven't read the manga or original source for an adaptation to be able to experience this without being in the know and enjoying the tense twists and atmosphere first-hand for what it is, and man did Oczy shine in the episode in an epic manner, and shows how much in a brief period of time he's managed to naturally grow as a character without anything feeling heavy-handed or ridiculously executed.

This is a pretty good episode. More cat and mouse as they cover some of their tracks while trying to not rouse the suspicions of the inquisitor. At least, thats what was going on with the big fire and their collection of books.

Suppose in those days they could still rewrite all of their observations/data, but doing so is a setback. Rest in peace book. And even in book burning, they still get the patrol sniffing around..

Oczy is a GOAT. Probably obvious, but the man owned their work. Even fought off the crossbows and swords that hunted them.

God, how good was this episode! I did not expect last week's cliffhanger to actually pay off, I thought it was a little too early, but I'll be damned!

Badeni and Oczy's conversations were great, although I did get a little frustrated because I was so nervous that the carriage would get there and the two were still gonna be talking.

The fights were really cool, as well! I can't wait for next week, it's gonna be lit!

This show is so freaking awesome! The characters, their reasoning and plot all fit together so well, like a puzzle. The night time shots they get with the characters also are always top tier!
@Mariklyn and one of the great things its, unlike today, which people like to put themselfs in the mentality of the people of past centuries, the show, shows very well, the mentality and context of how people thought and how they acted. For example, why Badeni thought why the average person should read or writte, we may not agree and to out XXI century eyes may be seen as almost "evil". But, he explains very well, why he thought like that. This show doesnt try to put characters from past ages with our modern eyes, they do it, in their context and mindset.

I know it's silly but I hope Oczy says something similar to Rafal's inspiration speech, I would like Nowak to hear something like "I think inspiration is probably more important than lifespan" or "I will let the inspiration live" again...

I really love the slow pacing and slow burn/build up with these characters, makes everything more tense and heavy. Nailed that atmosphere.
