This was a great adaptation of the first 4 books. I have no complaints about pacing or cut content. Very excited for season 2 which should probably cover the first Lenos (where Lawrence said they are going next) up to A Town in Strife. Hopefully ppl keep watching and we get a full adaptation. Especially with the teaser they did at the beginning of the first episode and end of this episode.

this concolusion goes to show that vaticanmaxing is in fact based and justified because there really should be no place for beastmen in an ideal world, let alone the practice of outdated paganism. like they always say, in with the new, out with the old.
@HibiChika Why have hybrids when we got real doges? as they say

I now have a brief idea as to how people may have felt about not receiving a new season for Spice and Wolf all these years. I thank my stars for not having to go through the same.

Also, amazing OST. Glad there's at least one anime airing rn that's doing justice to Kevin Penkin's music.

I still like the original anime more. It felt more emotional and captivating. Still, it's nice to have a faithful novel adaptation. Although, I can't say that this village arc was amazing.

The main cast, pulling off that “miracle“ like that was sheer genius! And I also agree that Elsa deserves an award for her acting skills during that.

And that was an ingenious idea, taking the wheat and turning them in the biscuits, where apparently the area doesn’t get them very often! I agree with Lawrence, what a great profitable business idea! It’s great to see that the very village which tried to smite them, instead bought said biscuits, and said they were a great delicacy from that very same town! And that town even made a small profit from it too!

And now that everything has been resolved, Holo and Lawrence once again are off to another town, with Lawrence coming up with yet another business idea, being the merchant that he is. A really great end to a really great season!

Pretty nice adaptation, even if I still prefer the first anime.

The post-ending part was really cute and make me curious to see the part that wasn't adapted before.

This was good! A touching finale where Holo & Lawrence leave the town they've kept alive through their efforts. The parallels between Elsa and Holo were done very well. Now our Wise Wolf can finally put behind the guilt that came with leaving Yoitsu and move on to the next destination.

Lawrence turned the tables and got the Village some independence.
Biscuits are a new thing in this time so Holo got to taste them for the first time.
Great Season.

NGL this arc confused me, why do the villagers act like they hate the church when they love father franz and they got this beneficial contract from him?

They didn't love father Franz. They said that they owned him a lot, but never truly appreciated what he did for them. Evans said that the villagers gave lot's of offerings to their God, but never really listened to Franz teachings, nor did they donate to the Church, and if it wasn't for the beer lady and the village head, Franz and Elsa would have starved. The villagers were just stupid that took everything for granted and had no clue how good they truly had it.

So this seems to be the second remake I know of (and doesn't have pacing issues) that has a lower rating than the original (as in both seasons of the original), despite the fact that the original is an incomplete adaptation (and in S&W's case, even skipped an arc), and with a second season of the 2024 version announced, the 2024 version will be, I assume, a complete adaptation. I know Tokyo Mew Mew remake also has a lower rating than the original Tokyo Mew Mew, but the original version was already a complete adaptation anyway. So at this rate, Spice and Wolf (2024) might be the second time a remake with a complete adaptation has a lower rating than the original incomplete adaptation if the second season also gets a lower rating, it seems (ignoring the Shaman King remake, which was rushed). The first remake I know of that has a lower rating than the incomplete original is Rurouni Kenshin (2023), which also doesn't have pacing issues, and is very likely to be adapting the whole manga eventually.

This is because of how the community changed. When the original came in 2008, this place was mainly populated by teenagers who were really passionate about anime and were looking for a community. As a result, everything back then was rated higher, because fans just enjoyed anime in general. Those days, this place is full of pretentious people, that act like scoring an anime is some God-given mission that needs to be done properly, and they are very critical about everything, so the scores are in general lower.

Haaa... When they said remake, I though this would be a complete adaptation, not just a first season, lol XD While the new content was a welcomed addition, it still sucks a bit, that after all those years, I am basically where we were left off 15 years ago XD

The plan worked! I'm glad Evan and Elsa were able to not only stay safely in the village, but they seem to have gained a lot of respect within it as well. That's the best outcome you could hope for!

What a fun journey this show has been. A merchant's life is pretty tough. Especially that of a travelling merchant, but with the quick witted Lawrence and his wise wolf Holo. They have managed to make it through all the plots and schemes that have been thrown at them. I'm glad this show got a remake and that I watched it. I can't wait for season 2!

Season 1 ended in a bang, and it's far better than the OG's season 2 ending.

Finally, we get to interact with a bishop because up until now, the Church has been the subject of conversation. It seems like it's a hidden enemy, but for the first time, they get into direct conflict with our party.

Really like the remake.
I don't think it's better or worse than the OG.
I still think watching both is the best approach.
8/10
@ZER0PT watch OG then watch remake 14 years later is the best approach (or 8 years in my case)

Absolutely Amazing 💖

Man, Holo gave me pure diabetes from all of her expressions. I really loved the chemistry between Holo and Lawrence. It was really funny seeing Holo teasing him all the time and also how Lawrence responded to her. But seeing Holo being sad and crying broke my heart to pieces. But I'm really glad everything was resolved. Nora was such a sweet girl, too. I enjoyed the anime so much. There wasn't a single dull moment and I was always giggling seeing all of Holo's antics. I'll miss all of them and, of course, their daughter, too.

Thank you Passione for adapting and animating this masterpiece so beatifully. Sasuga one of my most favorite studio. I'm really happy that they announced season two right away. I can't wait to watch Holo and Lawrence's interactions again 💖

8/10 final score for this rendition of Spice and Wolf. I feel like this adaptation truly made me understand exactly why the novel is so popular. It's a perfect blend of slow-burn romance, debt smuggling economics and religious rhetoric. Holo is adorable.

A really good series. What I particularly liked was the world building, the link between each place and what the characters bring to the story.

Lawrence and Holo obviously make a great duo, and I can see why our wise wolf is so popular. They support each other and get the best out of each other. Their interactions were perhaps one of the best things about the series with the added romance aspect revolving around it. And one thing I really like is that this romance, this rapprochement between the 2 protagonists, was achieved through a journey and the story arcs linked to the places they stopped off at. I really like this type of storytelling.

Another aspect I really appreciated was the sets, which were a pleasure to see a series (all too rare) that knew what medieval settings were. Mushoku Tensei did it very well, Frieren did it very well and Spice & Wold does it very well, thank you. I'm sick of seeing series set in medieval times that are completely lacking in the scenery department. Great sets = greater immersion and Spice & Wolf has them.

The show's economic theme was interesting, a breath of fresh air in what this type of medieval series is all about. Not too complex, not too simple.

I'm not going to say that I was disappointed, but I was expecting more in terms of animation, you could tell that the staff were having problems and that sometimes the characters were having a hard time staying on-model. I even saw a mistake with a shot of Lawrence with unfinalised colouring in the last few episodes (not a very visible error, but still). A slight lack of Sakuga scene but thank God they didn't put in a 3D model for Holo wolf form. Overall, they've managed to maintain a satisfactory level of quality, albeit with a great deal of effort.

I'm really glad there's a season 2, because it's a series like you don't see every day, with a romance supported by an endearing duo.

Could anybody that is well versed in ecclesiastic rites explain what exactly this episode was about on a step my step why drinking gravy is allegedly a miracle from God?

If I were a bishop hellbent on persecution of heretics I certainly wouldn't accept something as mundane as mixing the flour with the holy water as a miracle. The only thing I can reckon that might explain this is the fact that the amalgam of water and flour solved but did not coagulate, however this is not mentioned by any of the characters.
