Pretty much most of my recent life is made up of anime, of course, but there are other hobbies as well.
For one thing, I've enjoyed movies since my childhood, and every occasional night, I'd turn off the light and watch one of my recently downloaded movies. As with my anime, I prefer the more artsy, thoughtful kind of films myself, too, but I don't particularly like the ones that are too thick (and dull) to entertain me, hence making me one picking movie buff that seeks 'entertaining films' (note the difference in usage between the terms 'film' and 'movie').
Oh, and I particularly enjoy disturbing horror films. One of my favorites is the 1986 classic remake, "The Fly."
I haven't been playing lots of videogames my life, but when one of those 'periods' come by when I start getting into my 'zone,' an obsessive urge to play videogames, it would only normally lasts about one to two weeks tops, especially when I'm able to beat most games in three or five days' time - in the Easy or Normal level, of course. Unlike most hardcore gamers, I don't enjoy the challenge in games. Rather, I see games as more of a virtual simulation experience, whether I'm playing Spidey webbing up Hammerhead's goons in the shadows in Shattered Dimension, or when I'm trekking through a thick jungle wearing a high-tech advanced battle-suit in Crysis. It's the enjoyment of the story and gameplay, not the challenge, that excites me.
In terms of music, I'm afraid I'm not a big music person. I enjoy the occasional anime OPs/EDs, but mainstream music just doesn't serve as an obsession to be as much as anime or films. However, I love soundtracks. I collected several albums of them in my iTunes (illegal downloads, of course, but w/e). My favorite would have to be between Prince of Egypt and Dinosaur. I really love the 'Raptors' score in the latter and the 'Plagues' soundtrack in the former.
Also, last but definitely not least, comics. Spider-Man comics, to be precise - and only Spidey's. Make mine Marvel! I've grew up with Spidey since I was a kid. The first time I saw him was on "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," which I didn't enjoy so much due to its campiness. Of course, that was when the '90s Spidey TAS came along and blew my mind, and I'm obsessed with him ever since.
But it wasn't till recent years (5 to 7 years ago, perhaps) that I started picking up his comics. I for one don't really enjoy reading, so the idea of reading comics just kinda turned me off back then. But right after the legendary Amazing Fantasy Vol. 1 #15, you know I couldn't stop from there. Right now, I'm only at Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #139, at the dawn of the notorious Clone Saga with The Jackal. And boy, do I still have a lot to catch up on.
I also dwelt on a moderate amount of fan fiction writing back then, but it's a on-and-off thing. I have a problem with creating major projects (whether it's creating a video or writing a story); I can't finish it. It always ends up hanging half-way unfinished, and the same thing happened to my last fan fiction, which was based on an alternate reality of the K-On! universe. And boy, was the story going well, too.
Writing's a huge challenge to me, though. Believe it or not, I find it difficult to be 'flowery' when writing stories. My dialogues seem dull, and my descriptions are dead. Not very good materials for a story, one of the major reasons why I don't feel motivated in continuing my writing. However, I do have a dream since young to become a scriptwriter. There's nothing like the thrill of telling a story, exploring new worlds and the infinite possibility of what could happen in a story.
I used to do some amount of graphic design with Photoshop, too, designing anime signatures and the such, displaying my work across forums and the like. Heck, I was even in course involving graphic design (partially). But that didn't turn out too well. I could do the simple signature design but, I'm no professional when it comes to that. |
