really not a huge fan of how rushed this shit feels :// i feel like everything had a heavier impact in the webcomic. i'm kind of getting the vibe they're going to attempt to adapt all 100 chapters which would be insane for 12 episodes.

as far as actual content goes, this episode is my least favourite so far, which really sucks because i loved the scene where they dance on the beach in the comic :( things just felt especially cheap in this one. still can't bring myself to like the endless chibi segments/stillframes.

definitely just gonna wind up rereading after this finishes airing.
@yoroshikus
Same, this episode had some of the best moments in the story but I feel like everything just went by really fast. I wouldn't say the webcomic is slow paced, but there was defenitely more time to digest what was happening. I would rather have this anime be better quality and end incomplete, rather than it rushing through or skipping parts to try and fit the entire story in 1 season...

I do like the voice acting for all the characters, especially in this episode, it's exactly what I imagined they would sound like. It would've been amazing they did a fully animated scene of them dancing though, bit sad.

In this episode, various flashbacks are shown about Makoto who likes feminine things which sometimes causes problems, especially for his mother. However, it turns out Makoto has a father who supports his desires. The proof is by sending Makoto to a school where he can be the gender he wants.

One day, Makoto decides to live a normal life as a boy, including at school too. Because he didn't tell anyone about it, everyone there was shocked and their view of him changed, including Makoto's closest friends, namely Aoi and Ryuuji. Seeing that Makoto was a handsome boy, many girls became interested and ended up liking him (our bro is a very lucky guy, he's handsome yet beautiful).

But then, he felt quite strange to wear men's things. In other words, he still can't move on from his love for feminine things. Therefore, he decided to return to doing the things he loves.

Gotta love 'official subs' with a clear agenda lol.
Manga in the scene where dad questions Makoto about how he wants to live and he suggests the school name, the word 'gender' is never mentioned, but ofc the subtitle says it 'whatever gender you want to live as/identify', which is not what the scene meant of course kek
A little bit like ep 1 kept misgendering Makoto as "she" in Aoi's lines, even after she already knew he was a dude, I wonder who did that too, again in the manga she refers to him as a male.

Anyway, just when I saw ep 1 and 2 and it didn't seem rushed at all, they rushed it.

Real question, please spoil it for me if you must, but does the mom ever come around in the story?? I'm so close to dropping this anime because it's legitimately triggering me. I'm non binary myself and my gender dysphoria is too strong for this. That anime woman is legitimately pissing me off so bad I almost feel like I don't wanna watch it anymore

I have a problem with anime and manga that take a typical, very normal thing and make it seem sooo dramatic and scary. The handkerchief reminded me of kaoru hana wa rin. Where her friends at her school find out she’s dating rintaro. The scenes were drawn so oddly and not matching the tone of what happened at all. The way the scene played was giving less “I found a cute handkerchief” and more “what are these creep shot Polaroids I found under your mattress” lol. It just gets a little too silly for me to stay engaged.

This episode 3 is extremely deep.

Contemplating the number of people who have gone through this experience throughout history, and even today, awakens a feeling of horror at the persistent social stigmas. These stigmas, to which many cling, prevent the evolution towards greater understanding and empathy in our society. Do we really deserve to be called humanity? Personally, I think not, at least until we truly understand and accept this reality.

Man, what an episode! Kinda felt like a finale, though apparently it was the original finale before it got continued (as others have mentioned), so hopefully it can keep the momentum going.

Look, removing some facial features from background characters is fine and all, but this one literally had a name and even a handful of lines! At least give her some eyes!!

Why'd it take the mom 2+ weeks to wash and iron a handkerchief??

The 2 of them are lucky that Aoi's dress is the right size for Makoto. I'd have recommended swapping shoes as well, but the ones he was wearing have more significance so I understand why they didn't.

Just a note, the chibi artstyle is the source material artstyle with scarce backgrounds. The staff have to put a decent amount of anime-original details to make it work.

what an episode
mom being annoying, tho i can see her side of wanting mc to behave like a boy, but she really goes too far with it
"don't put me in an awkward position"... yeah sure, you're totally not doing the same to him

dad is pretty cool, he managed to find a school that accepts Makoto the way he wants to be, it's a nice experiment for him to decide what he wants to do in the future

Aoi being mad the whole episode lol she obviously knew what Makoto was going through
she even got back the trash bag, just when mc was starting to want it back, nice save

they used a couple shots from episode 1 (the basketball shot, and the jump on the beach) and i thought it was great

finally, the ending, omg when they exchanged clothes, that part was my favorite so far

like others said, this is only episode 3, holy shit, this could easily be the season's finale and no one would complain
favorite "new girls" from summer <3 ... click sig for older seasons and more possible picks (rip all the other choices)

I hate parents doing this… “don’t put me in a tough spot” ??? Excuse me?? This kind of people should not make children. They are never ready to see the child as they are.

I kid you not, many people would rather have a child with a disability than a LGBTQ child, especially Asian and South Asian parents.

As much as I fear for the longevity of my MAL account, I’m both a free speech absolutist and legitimately believe the ideals of religious tolerance to be a cancer, so I’m going to go ahead and challenge this statement.

I agree that not all religious people are alike. There are two type of them. The Idiots and The Scumbags

The scumbags are the ones who actaully read the bible front to back and consider the despicable horrors it condones as moral and just and wishes for it to be the law of the land and the basis to which politicians build there policies. And above all how they treat others who refuse the gospel in there lives.

Then you have the idiots. The ones your probably talking about. The freakish nutcases who think there christian while simultaneously having absolutely no fucken idea what the expectations of that religion are or foolishly think they have some sort of super-secret Jesus recipe figured out when in reality they have nothing to go on as they’ve disregarded the bible – there only lead in figuring out the will of god. Which is dumb. Giving reverence to someone/something when you don’t even know what it is they want makes you an imbecil.

Regardless of how they rationalize or act out their faith they all annoy the shit out of me. As do the people who defend them. Anyone who would allow for the immorality and ridiculousness of Christianity or Islam to propagate should be ostracized.

Honesty its people like you that make me so content with broadcasting my love of loli hentai to the world.

You want to defend people who subscribe to a moral compass that condones slavery and child molestation yet get on my case for wanking off to cartoons? That’s just crazy! In no way do I have a desire to be accepted by weirdos like you. You have no intellectual or moral consistency to speak of and trying to relate to you gives me a headache. I prefer you think I’m gross. That way you’re dumbass will keep yourself and you’re biases the fuck away from me. Compared to what engaging with dickheads like you would entail, solitude sounds like paradises.

Now, since I really don’t want to derail the topic of this thread or jeopardize my account any further with “discriminatory language” (:/) I won’t be replying to further quotes on this post. Lets keep the forum on track shall we. If you want to annoy me further with your biases and double standards send me a PM.

At least I have some respect for the rules, right moderation? ;)

I'll never understand parents who can't support the idea of their children being trans or just wanting to dress like the opposite gender. If you don't care whether your child's a girl or a boy before they're born, why does it matter after they're born? Parents are supposed to love their children unconditionally, and if you're not able to love your child unconditionally then imo you're not fit to have a child.

@floral_sacrifice Most parents care about their child's gender before they're born, have you never seen those atrocious gender reveal parties? Also, the abdominal/obstetric ultrasound is used for that too.
If we hadn't somewhat evolved since medieval times, the children would've gotten a much worse treatment than not being loved.

@RSGX My point still stands, if a parent's going to throw a fit because the child isn't the gender they wanted it to be, they're not fit to have a kid.

Seriously, as a trans person myself, I hate their mom so much😭😭😭

Fr tho. Gender norms are complete shit. It doesn't matter where you are on the spectrum, if you like cute things and you want to dress feminine, GO AHEAD! If you like it, you like it.

If someone else has a problem with that, then they're just a complete idiot.

I'm so confused by these three, I gave it 4 stars because I'm rooting for the three of them to stay together, besides makoto, his friend needs to come to conclusions too.
I think what bothers me the most is how simple the plot is, what caught me the most about this anime is the "unpublished" story, but it's all so predictable 😭.

@LostSpectre This would be like saying when women in the 20th century claimed equality, they wanted to present as the male gender.
Instead of what they actually wanted, aka normalizing behaviour/presentation/societal role that was considered "for men" as unisex.
While still being women.

Makoto is the opposite.
In a modern western world where gender role equality only progressed in one direction (towards women), things are either gender neutral (manly stuff that women can also do without being considered weird) or feminine (guys doing those are considered weird and antagonized).
Makoto wants to live in a world while as a male he can enjoy both sides without being considered weird, like women do.
Key word, as a male.

A guy wanting to enjoy cute things doesn't have to revolve around gender identity.
Unless it is specifically mentioned by the character in 1st person, keep that stuff out.

Shoutout to the dad, he was surprised of course but understanding and even went out of his way to find a suitable high school and make an arrangement, the mom is the kind of character is despise, she’s just unfair, mean, and the most selfish, just leave makoto do as he wants, what the F does that have to do with you
That was painful to watch but it’s a reality in many household so i think it reenacted that perfectly

Dad of the year!!! Fr though I love makoto's dad so much being so understanding of him; only wish he could have helped him against his mother :/ but being able to be himself at school is already so huge so bless the dad for that.

I still don't love aoi's character but I definitely have more respect for her after this ep - takes a true friend to chase after a garbage truck for you.

the dad giving him space to experiment even tho he's not sure he if he wants to be a girl is soooo cool of him! even if he doesn't feel like a gil and just likes cute& feminine stuff, being given space to figure it out is a huge help

the sudden turn of everyone's behaviour towards him in school is a perfect representation of what i've heard about japanese society: very traditional, very judgemental but most of the time not in your face, just hinting at it

i've been told so many times to 'just suck it up (my transness) and don't indulge, keep it in and conform' and it hurts just the same seeing it being told to someone lese, even if he's just a fictional character

Aoi: " You can't just be done loving something!"
Ryuuji: "But it's his decision."
Aoi: "And that's why I'm conflicted!"

"Good-bye me" - i was actually feeling the tears start to form

the ending was super wholesome, i'm glad Aoi's persistent encouragement come through as supportive instead of causing issues. she was READY to see him in a dress again lol

they look so cute, Aoi in a suit and Makoto in a dress. the red and blue don't quite match though

Makoto did a good job with his mother. I don't think she is a good mother. She almost had a mental breakdown from a simple handkerchief. What is wrong with that woman.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

I'm so glad Makoto as ar least one parent that tries to be supportive. I understand that having a kid that is different from the norm and does not confirm to your expectations must not be easy, but the mother is being a little over the top. like not being able to even have some cute stationary or a handkerchief at home is too much. get a grip lady.

Terrible mom as expected, it was obvious from the moment she opened her mouth on the previous episode. What's crazy is she went out of her way to lift up his bed to find that handkerchief. Literally psychopath behavior. I appreciate that the dad at least is more understanding, but at the same time, he is also just going around the issue by hiding it along with our MC. They need to resolve this, either talk it out and get her to accept, or move on.
