Complete let down to what the show was building up to be.

Swapped from an intriguing historical and political drama to a shallow detective show that makes no sense to grown ups.

They were really taking their audience for idiots with this episode.
I mean - she's convinced that she's pregnant - but they haven't slept together ????

Went so much overboard with the plot twists that it completely disconnected from previous storytelling and logic of the show.

Felt like a kid trying to make a joke but wasn't funny. Just fell flat on it's face.

Really not interested in this show anymore.

The first arc of the series is over. I didn't know it was being broadcast, how horrible, we'll have to wait!

I liked it because there were intrigues and so on, but maybe it wasn't what I was expecting. The fact of resolving everything in the end as if "The Future King" had absolute knowledge of everything seemed unreal to me. I would have liked to know more about the characters' motivations and not reveal what they really are at the end. It's fine to do it with one or two characters, but basically all the cards have been revealed by the end, too!
If Rokkon (the red giant) was "Good", what did he do in meetings in said towns with other secret agents?
I understand that when the brother behaved like this in public it was to pretend.
Then other things, like the fact that in the end the protagonist was the one who saved the king, the protagonist who had very difficult conditions to be his assistant and who could have perfectly been rejected, makes little sense. If they needed him so much to forge ties with the north, why did they put such difficult conditions on him from the very beginning.

The betrayal of the traitor i liked but I didn't understand why he didn't kill the king. To be honest he can just send 1 soldier to get the "mere boy" or forget about the boy at the moment and just complete his plan, it didn't make sense at all.

I expect much more from the supposedly good girl in the second season, to see if she can continue plotting things.

Thats why this first arc i would rank it between 6.5 and 7.0

It’s been so long since any work of fiction had a twist that I genuinely didn’t see coming. This Asebi twist is INSANE. Masterful writing man I never in a million years would’ve thought she was like this. They set her up as the quintessential victim, only to reveal her as a wolf in sheep’s clothing pulling all the strings in the ritual.

Best episode of the series by far. The Kasuke stuff was only the tip of the iceberg, I never would have thought Asebi was manipulating even the Prince’s own sister?? Fujinami being in love with her and willing to do whatever she asked, even kicking out and inadvertently killing Samomo wtf???? Takimoto covering it up I can understand, ladies in waiting are loyal to a fault as the prince said..

“The princess misunderstood me” nah this bitch is pure evil 😭 like the scary sort of pure evil. That scene of the dark raven coming out the ground next to Asebi was terrifying. She just exudes a very uncomfortable aura that I never noticed until today.

Who would’ve thought that out of everyone there it would be Hamayu that ended up winning the prince’s hand in marriage lmao. The person literally sent there to kill him. Poetic in a sense, but given her neutrality from the four houses and the prince’s desire for reform it is logical.

That “I do not find you particularly special and I do not love you either. That won’t change if you marry me” is the most insane proposal ever though 😂 that punch was well deserved. Hamayu is also a good choice because she doesn’t worship the prince or like treat him formally, they’re old friends and she isn’t afraid to say whatever is on her mind to him.

Gonna miss my boy Yukiya :/ was hoping he’d stay around, but guess he’s got unfinished business in Taruhi.. hope we see him again some day… but the set up for this next arc looks wild. The intercutting shots of girlie getting her head eaten off while the prince and yukiya say their goodbyes was haunting.

And a new waifu showing up?? Two weeks off due to the recap and new season starting, but I can’t wait!

The show had to much didnt see it coming, in my sense thats a mistake. You need to make the spectator participate in the main plots and not hide everything at the end, with ex-post & ad hoc justifications. @

The prince wants to get a neutral girl, but by doing that he is literally going against the 4 Houses, which i doubt they will let them do whatever he likes! @Marinate1016

It's the perfect engagement if the show is considered a 13-episode series.
Thats also true! @KANLen09 , In Path - rythim we couldnt ask for more. I would like to know more about the armies of the several Houses, what are their purposes etc. And also the Queen right now plotting i would like to see more.

Who dont want to be surprised??
Just like, when writing plots about this, you give the writer and director too much power, instead of the spectator trying to guess whats happening. And then they can justify what ever the want, just by minor details
Much better if the show makes or allows you to participate in the drama/ trama, at least with some points. But here we missed a lot of things:
1) The brother real intentions + his followers
2) The protagonist "true identity"
3) The various intentions of the different girls that are to marry the prince

For example, the betrayal was good planned: Thats an example of good writing and plotting.
But for example, the other girl we didnt know a clue about that, and it was good at the end, but felt a little bit ex-post explanation.
What i didnt like is the feeling the show tried to share with us ,, that the prince is the one that knows everything

Ok now that the consort has been finally chosen it's time for a new arc I guess right? With Yukiya returning home too. Very glad that Hamayu is back but I never though the one from the flashback would be Sumio. Seeing the face of Fujinami was amazing. Asebi I have no words. From the start, I was hoping for anyone but her because of her nature but expected she'll probably win somehow anyways. She turned out surprisingly interesting though I never want to see her again. Even until the end no way to prove her malice but man it felt good when he said he loathed her. Still despite everything there's no proof of her doing anything wrong. Simply an unfortunate series of events. Everything really would've gone her way if Wakamiya didn't do his homework. Asebi truly lives up to her name. She's terrifying. Unlike other second or third rate schemers who give up in the end and laugh yeah I'm evil she kept it up. Innocent until the end. She might've got rejected but she's suffered no punishment or anything because no proof. She never breaks character making even the watcher questions what is she? She goes silent when it's convenient, flutters her eyes and cries, offers shallow apologies and she never breaks character. A very good portrayal of a perfect sociopath.

I feel we probably won't see much more of these consorts besides Sumi/Hamayu. Fujinami as well too broken now.

Look forward to the new arc.

I also just realized the childhood friend won for fucking once!

So Lady Asebi isn't exactly Machiavellian but too tone deaf anf naive that Fujinami as yandere will do anything for her. Tragic yuri tale.

So Hamayu was a childhood friend. In that childhood scene, I really thought it was the Prince's trustworthy companion.

EDIT: Asebi is Machiavellian. :(

She and Osanai are top characters this season.

This is even better than the Apothecary Diaries.

Asebi really was the King of Schemers.
Best line, "I Loathe You" to Asebi.
She still thought she'd done nothing wrong.

You know something curious the "mixed feelings review" and "negative review" in the main page doesn't go through this episode what a waste they were so near to discovered all the cases were a big thread.

Trivial things aside I loved this, I was like "what all the bad things happen to Asebi" but I guess I am too used to the villainess setting to thing it was dub script-writting my bad, Asebi was truly evil yet too good at the end even if she didn't win they couldn't accuse to anything so it was the perfect defeat.
The animation was top notch I realized she was evil because the calm and expresions since the twelve chapter were different to the usual ones, damn I love this.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

Asebi should’ve been hanged, flayed, and beheaded on the spot! Seeing her crushed after the prince discarded her like trash was not enough for me.

Gotta watch those benevolent goodie two shoes!
