I would say this was the best episode so far. Even though it was generic, the episode was tense throughout.

The parent reveal tho — no wonder Kikoru is so badass, her dad is basically a hulk. :o

Iharu called Kafka both old and fat wow. XD

The animation when Kafka transformed and is going for the kill was awesome. The original kaiju being present with him in his mind def gave me Parasyte vibes, it'll be interesting to see how the anime explores this going forward.

Can we all agree that Production I.G deserves more credit with this adaptation? The way he's handling these action scenes are truly absurd. Some moments are crazy.
@_K3i_ Yep.

Even in the weaker episodes (this one and Episode 9), the art style is still fantastic and the animation is beautifully done.

They've done a killer job with the anime overall, and skyrocketed into my Top 3 anime studios because of it (and a few others).

This time, we immediately saw how Kafka's misfortune happened after he found out he was a kaiju. However, their friendship is something to be proud of, they still accept Kafka's condition.

Then we also see how the division where Kafka served and his friends wanted Kafka to return, then there, where Kafka faced Captain Shinomiya Isao, how Kafka faced the captain and also controlled the Kaiju desire in him.

A pretty good fight, then the last episode we will see how this ends and the central body's decision regarding Kafka's situation. So can't wait to see how they respond to Kafka's earnestness, then Kikoru-chan, thank you for your support.

At last Kafka vs Kikoru papa hell yeah. The animation was satisfyingly good. Now that Kafka has fully trasformed shit's gonna go overboard. It was heart-warming when they clarified that none of Kafka's peers thought of him as an enemy sasuga 3rd division.
And Mina's last words were also very pleasant.

Lookin' forward to the last ep

It was good, nice character moments and action, but I really wish they’d rescript the dialogue to make it less tropish.

There should be somewhat of recognization that Kafka is not exactly human as he is now. Instead the discussion should focus on the pros/cons of keeping him alive as an ally regardless of that fact. And there’s really no need for the authority figures to be super hardline on whether to eliminate Kafka. You can make another excuse for a fight to happen. Maybe for demonstration of worth or something.

This is the episode where I’ve disliked Mina this least. She’s never once treated Kafka like a friend. She should be fighting Director General Shinomiya alongside him instead of following orders.

I actually think they did a pretty good job setting the plot support for their stance. One of the directors even brings up that there could be value in keeping Kafka as a "living weapon" rather than killing him. However, the episode also presents us with believable support for their more rigid stance in two forms: 1) when they discuss the panic that might occur if the public ever found out that humans could turn into kaijous (as opposed to the other way around), and 2) the director's personal bias because of the loss of his wife.

Even after transforming into a Kaiju, Kafka's fellow officers still believe in him. Goes to show he's made an impact on everyone, despite being one of the weakest officers.

Incredible fight at the end, loved the directing and artistic choices that were made to make it feel completely different than any other fight so far. The inky looking power seeping from Kafka was terrific.

You don’t see it as overly cliche’d though? I’ve seen this exact setup before. And I can tell in the direction that they wanted this specific story beat of “is he human?” “Is he kaiju?” to be really emphasized.

Not that I don’t like it. I do enjoy the show. But there are ways to make this more interesting with more subtlety in character decision making and reasoning I think. Having a leadership group be more open to reporting from their officers is a common sense thing. Having them question Kafka would also be a common sense thing, maybe see what information he’s willing to provide about himself and other kaiju. You can even still have the fight as a test of whether he is truly in control of his body or something. It’d feel real, and give it so much more impact.

I apologize if this is overly critical btw. I want the perfect show to blow me away.

I'm glad everyone in the Third Division has Kafka's back. They all know he saved their lives.

Looks like Kafka's emergency kaiju mode has taken over! Hopefully he can beat the Director General within an inch of his life and then let go of the gas pedal before he actually ends up killing the guy in front of his daughter Kikoru. That would really destroy her confidence in his humanity.

I thought Kafka would be a bit more practical and try to disable the Kaiju no 2 weapons, much like how he broke Hoshina's blade and escaped. I guess that isn't an option yet.

I mean...yes, it's not the most original plot in the world, but at least it presents plausible support, which is better than being full of idiotic plot holes (for example, if everyone was irrationally anti-Kafka without some sort of explained bias). Plenty of animes have the MC have to overcome one (or more) assholes who hate them for pretty much no reason at all just to create fake conflict.

@ghier Him being a human able to transform into a kaiju or a kaiju being able to transform into a human is the most important issue, way before his usefulness in combat. They know about 9 which appeared as a human and 10 which found enjoyment in a fight, so the first thing they need to find out is whether 8 protecting humans isn't just a ruse to infiltrate the forces even deeper. After all, new kaiju appear to make use of deception and imitate human emotions. This series has a rather mediocre writing but this is one of few cases where it actually works fine.

It’s plausible-ish, yeah, I agree. But it’s still a bit too simple to feel real. And that’s fine, still a good show, 7/10.

Poor Kafka Hibino, everyone has now found out that Kafka is rather a Kaiju than a human, he might seem to have a heart, but actually is a core. I believe Kafka will come back to his team and everything will be settled down.

Insane battle Kafka had with Isao Shinomiya, Director General of Defense Force. He is such a powerful soldier, he is able to use Kaiju no.2’s equipment. Kikoru really care about Kafka and she desire to come back and to be saved. This should not be the end for Kafka, he saved a lot of lives in battle with Kaiju no.10 and 9.

Damn, Kafka lost control. But this had to happen at some point. Till now he basically had OP powers at no cost. I mean the Kaiju-thing that got inside him in episode 1 hasn't said or done anything till now and that seemed odd. Hopefully we'll know what the kaiju meant with "found you" and why he chose Kafka to begin with.

I also find it funny how Shinomiya dad is like "u no human" and the very next second does things no regular human can do.

I see, so most of the previous "numbered Kaijus" are pretty much all turned into special weapons.

And the usual classic "higher ups" wants to just kill him regardless of who Kafka is or if he saved the entire defense section...

And yea... they're "torturing" Kafka like I thought, but that's what military do, Sadge

"oh, you saved everyone, DIE DIE DIE, we don't give a fuck if you saved people, you're not humans, so you must DIE"

bastard: "You finally show who you are, Kaijuu"

Yea... after literally almost kill the guy, so his life force goes all the way down, so the Parasite had no choice but to step in to save Kafka and fight the "Kaijuu no.2" (in a sense, this Parasite is like Ichikawa, that steps in to try and save Kafka)

stupid girl: "stop, you're human aren't you"

Yea... so if Kafka actually gets killed, he gets to be human right? LOOOOL

"oh, he's dead, yup, he's a human, ok, back to work guys, shows over" (kicks dead body)
or
"oh, he's still fighting and not dying, he must be evil, we need to kill him" (STAB STAB STAB)

.

TBH tho... it feels like even if Kafka does get to go back...

He'll be turned into what that higher up wants... "Turn him into a living weapon"

Meaning, they might force Kafka to constantly transform and kill Kaijuus or send him into extremely dangerous missions without a care of Kafka's free-will or safety... (even if Kafka does want to kill Kaijuus)

like "oh, you're tired, continue fighting, who said you get to rest"

(not to mention... everyone's being split apart, the "team" is no more)

Mina: "we been thinking about this before the incident"

Yea... nice timing to split everyone up huh, all into a different place while at it so no one can communicate with each other anymore, RIGHHHTTT...

.

Poor Kaijuman, dude just wanted to protect everyone but gets betrayed by humanity.

Hmm... where have I seen this "plot" before... I think there's 3 other anime Reincarnate series with this... lol
