Sometimes I wonder how Ichikawa became so emo in the first place when the rest of his family is completely normal, lol. A cute episode overall, and Yamada being concerned about his arm was adorable.

A bit more chara dev for Ichikawa this time.
This also will be a plot-point later on.
It also shows Moeko as a trustworthy friend for Ichikawa.

1 episode left. It would be good if they get to announce if they will make a 2nd season or not. The chapters in the manga after they come back from their winter break has so much content so I don't think they will run out of content until the confession.

Amazing episode.
Cute interactions between Yamada and Ichikawa, like she "remote controlling" him to give headpats or she imitating the dog when Ichi would give commands and Yamada's smilewith her gift.
Also Moe is a true wingwoman.

Get fucked pickup senpai, you creepy mofo.

Another great episode, even though they skipped some parts from the manga. But the flow was seemless. Now, with one episode left, I pray we get a season two teaser !!!

Weirdly enough, there wasn't a lot of music in this episode in terms of ost. But the scenes themselves convey a lot of emotions. the flashback seemed out of place, but they packed a lot of material this episode overall.

side note, did anyone else get pissed when the first "karate" ending sequence showed up? 🤣

Pain, only one episode left, but I am for sure reading the manga after the last episode, it's so good.

What a fantastic episode! I can definitely say for sure at this point that this is one of, if not the best romcom that came out so far this year. This episode alone, I was getting diabetic attacks throughout due to the amount of sugar I was consuming.

Going to be very sad once the anime is over, but I am looking forward to reading the manga.

maybe this is a bit of a spoiler but the reason why Ichikawa became an emo boy is because something happened in the past that made him depressed

How lucky Ichikawa having a cool sister like Kana which unbelievably very supporting her little brother after finding out about his crush and not having fun with it till death. Even though i may thinking she have a struggle too over the love live story or such. I'm calling it super sweet already for them.

Then its got better with Yamada and her super fully attention-seeker-mode outfit to Ichikawa. Not just once but twice! I legit melted with her doing, and smile for sure, even under those cold weather, ngl.

The damn annoying senpai comes back to strike Ichikawa with hella straight annoying way, trying to push Ichikawa even harder that time. With one arm left, Ichikawa even start to think about clearing senpai's problem by force xd.

Good that Sekine sliding in. Even though she seems so attracted with that senpai, but still manage to doing some cool shit talk over him after hearing Ichikawa determination guarding her mostly beloved friend's line, Anna Yamada. So hard that its almost breaking Ichikawa into changing the crush to her immediately lmao.

But its end well for them, which is good, and idk how can they clear up the show after this nicely done episode. Maybe some good teaser call about another more season for the next week? One more season seems okay, honestly. If that so, i'll gladly receive it with cheers!

There is a sequencing error when Yamada is petting the teddy bear, she is wearing a gym top, but when the camera pans closer, she is wearing a T-shirt. And when the camera pans back, Yamada has a beer belly covering up her belly button lol...

My man Ichicawa didn't notice, but he scored two points with Yamada's friend and he already has her blessing to date Yamada: First, he didn't hand over Yamada's Line to the scoundrel, and second, he didn't want to go up to what he figured it was Moeko's apartment (she kind of trolled him on that one haha).

Everything else in this episode is a 10/10 romance build!

This has turned into one of the best romcom I've ever seen.

Loved Ichikawa refusing to give Yamada's Line ID and passing Moeko's test. He should make a harem with her too.

The directing on this is phenomenal. The timing, the music, the dramatic pauses. Hands down my favorite anime of the season. It's a 10 for me

Wholesome : The Anime

This began extremely mediocre but quickly climbed up to be one of my favorite romance anime ever (and top one this season too). Really glad I gave it a try and kept watching, and sad it's going to end next week!

Question: During the Ichikawa's family car ride home, why was his sister going about how "there's this girl, she's adorable, but fickle and all over the place" and saying that "charm is more than just good looks"? And why Ichikawa reflects on how she's just like him (fr fr) for trying to give up on what she wants to avoid getting hurt?

I think the take away is that it is Kana's instinct to protect Kyoutarou by downplaying Yamada a bit, almost as if she is trying to talk him out of possibly developing a crush on her since Yamada might just be completely out his league. Kyou realizes that this is probably her motivation (does not want to see him get hurt) and that they are pretty similar in this regard. (Which is pretty much spot-on analysis considering the mental gymnastics he goes through to convince himself that he really has no chance with Yamada despite the ample, growing evidence to the contrary.)

Of course, Kana changes her tune when she realized it was Yamada who visited Kyoutarou when he was sick and left the note. Even she realizes there might be something there...

Yeah, apparently the author is a girl and I think that's why the show has some subtle gold nuggets compared to most other shounen romcoms written by typical guys.

More cute scenes. She keeps holding your hand Ichi, she likes you clearly!

His sister is so great. I'm probably a bit bias due to her voice actress though.

It has always been pretty interesting to me how many famous shounen manga there are (of all genres) that were penned by women. I totally agree with you; there are definitely some subtle (but pretty interesting) differences.

New Year's Eve, and it's more like a group date...of which Ichikawa faces questioning from Moeko's classmates left and right.

Ichikawa's homecoming back in Akita, and sure, he has family problems, but a new one arises: his relationship with Yamada. But a bad fall that sprained his arm, and his family is forced to escort him to the hospital, while taking care of him. A video call in the middle of the night, and his sister has to notice it by chance. But thankfully, she's in her sleepy state, so it's not much of a drill. Their conversation about the moon though, it's obviously a love metaphor that Ichikawa will not get, but souvenir gifts are OK. Too bad, his sister caught on with Yamada. and he has no chance but to slip out and find her.

Out of the midst, Ichikawa finds Yamada tagging along with her dog Wantaro, and instead of the dog, she teases Ichikawa, trying to get closer to while holding hands with him, and the exchange of souvenirs is a nice gesture, showing that they're actually a bit alike. That's when the confrontation comes, and Moeko along with the other girl, poses out while the Senpai still comes lurking at him over Yamada, which he would not concede. Sure enough, Moeko has a hunch that Ichikawa likes Yamada, and she sure is smug about it, though she's a real friend.

Will you ever take the first step and confess to Yamada, Ichikawa?

Phenomenal episode as expected. A lot has happened and most of it is pretty self explanatory. Some things that "may" be missed:

  • Yamadas priority uppon seeing Ichi injured was to immediately call him without checking if she's "modest" enough for a vid call shows her priorities
  • Onee exhibiting the same coping behaviour that Ichi had in previous episodes of downplaying things one would like to make the pain of not getting them easier to handle
  • Yamada kept the milk bottle that Ichi gave her in episode 6. Imgur credit to aspectleft on reddit this very hidden detail also fits perfectly with the name of the Karte for this episode "We are a bit similar". It also explains why, when the "no eating in the library" thing happens. Yamada assumed that it was because Ichi ditched the chips bag but he said that he kept it. Yamada isn't put off by that and keeps teasing him about why he kept it to which he had no proper reply. This did stand out as a bit odd back then but is in line with the information we have now. Both of them valued the first thing they've been given by the other. It doesn't matter what it is. It still has emotional value to them.
  • Yamada doing the doggy commands and using paw to hold his hands was soooo smooooth I love it.
  • Moeka doing a "test of character" check on Ichi to see if he would cave in under the pressure of the senpai and after he prevails accepts him as a genuine friend and starts rooting for him and yamada!

Just one more episode left... Wishing that the season 2 announcements arent fake and that we don't have to wait 2-3 years for it. Some great stuff ahead of us!
