Are people biased because it doesn't live up to their expectation of what the trigun should be? Do people hate it just because it's CG? Do you think it deserves a higher/lower score than it has now? What do you think?

I haven’t seen the original, so I’m going totally blind into this show. That said, the CG is the best I’ve ever seen in anime. The uninterrupted shots they are able to make in the fight scenes are beautiful to look at. Personally I think it deserves a higher score, and that it’s an underrated anime.

I've only watched a few episodes, but so far it seems alright. I don't understand the hate it's getting. Though i haven't watched the original, so it got me curious

I think this new anime didn't have the same feels that the original had. The original took its time to show its characters and setting, more leaning into the classic western that you see in western media at the time, and a fun but also bleak tone that's balanced well. This one just doesn't have any of those. Even looking at this new adaptation, there are faults. Such as jarring scenes throughout some its episodes.

People are biased, I think this show is even better than the 1998 anime. I loved the 1998 Trigun and was kinda disappointed when I saw the character designs in the trailer but each episode I watched made me want to appreciate the show a bit more. Will recommend it 100%.

how do i say this . . . it's . . . too different. the original trigun started as this goofy playful thing and then it got to the story part after the halfway point, but stampede plopped the story part on the table right from the start. and it's full CGI so peoples preconceptions have a role in the hate too.
i myself prefer this over the original since the goofy half of the original trigun was painful for me. with that said, i still haven't watched enough of stampede to say it's actually worth a watch or not. for all i know it can pull a kings game and go straight into berserk 2016 'i didn't know this degree of garbage was possible' grade. but im still hopeful.

It depends on who you ask. Everyone has their reasons for liking and disliking the show.

I don't have a high opinion of the original anime despite rating it an 8, a score that I gave it mainly because I loved the characters. The story and animation were very weak by 2022 standards (when I watched it), but I loved the personality of the characters and the voice acting work. I was open to changes with this new show to improve the other areas where the original was lacking, but I feel the only part where they succeeded improving is the animation. The story still feels very weak. It's great that they brought Knives in earlier, but I haven't found the side enemies and their stories to be compelling at all. It's kind of boring. At least the original gave us the Meryl-Milly-Vash chase before the Knives backstory. Sure the enemy of the week format during the chase was sometimes underwhelming, but Vash's interactions with the girls was enjoyable. That's missing here for a poor substitute of Vash moping around all the time. I really dislike the changes to the characters in terms of their personality and character designs. 1998 Vash was very likeable and full of charisma. 2023 Vash is a total bore. Did they call him the Humanoid Typhoon earlier in the season? I can't recall. What an ill-fitting nickname for this new version of Vash if they did. There's little that's remarkable about the character now. Roberto is a poor substitute for Milly and I dislike the Roberto-Meryl dynamic.

Anyway, around episode 4 or so I decided to stop doing comparisons and just judge the show on its own merits, but ultimately I can't help but feel underwhelmed and disappointed. The show has dropped the ball story-wise and character-wise. I wouldn't say it's bad. A 7.40 is not a bad score nor is the 6 that I'm already leaning toward giving it at the end unless things drastically improve.

People always wanna cling to their nostalgia...That's it. The story pace is fantastic and the animation is mind-blowing, I love the pure CGI. At least they're not fooling their audience as MAPPA does with their cowardly way of using it🤷🏻‍♀️

I watched the original series, so the changes put a sour taste in my mouth from the start, but I still gave the whole first episode a shot. And. I just didn’t like it. I didn’t like several of the story beats of the episode and I didn’t like how some of the characters were characterized. I am not a huge fan of CGI animation and prefer traditional, but that alone isn’t enough to make me dislike a show. It just didn’t feel right for me and makes me want to just read the original manga instead to get the story that way (since I know it is a bit different than the original anime). There are clearly a lot of people that enjoy this version of Trigun, so it can’t be a bad show, but it does feel bad to me personally. If you haven’t seen the original then you don’t have anything to compare it to and I think have a better chance of enjoying it.

i havent seen the original anime, but i read most of trigun maximum and i have fallen behind on recent episodes of this so im only at ep 5 but im not really a fan of the way their telling this story. everything kinda just happens all at once, which i get is why hes called the stampeed but the problem i have with it is i dont remember knives showing up till at least half way through the manga which felt like a better decision to me because it felt like a moment they built up to instead of sometjong that was just shoved in our faces at ep 3.

IMO people are just biased because one of the most beloved anime from the 90s is getting remade. The animation is fucking amazing the soundtrack rocks and the story is much closer to the source material than the original anime. Yes this show is more fast paced and doesnt take as many detours but for me the detours and less eventful episodes were the worst part of the original anime so I absolutely love this!

The 1998 Anime have this certain charm like over-the-top quirkiness and comedic moments that is not much present in 2023 adaptation

I like 2023 Vash more than 1998 Vash personality-wise

I didn't like the fact that the writers replace Meryl with Roberto which is a downer but I can accept changes

The CGI anime is far more fitting to the adaptation and Im loving the style

Do I like the 2023 adaptation, absolutely! the OG Vash vibe is there but diluted at least and not annoying.

Unstained by original anime or manga, its great, I specifically started watching after learning that its by Orange so no problem with CGI. OST goes hard and I like the writing, I had seen some snipped of the original and based only on that -
I cant imagine original "slapstick" comedy working well with current animation style.
Having only 12 episodes instead of 26, it makes sense they cant afford to do slower story building up and big "tone" changes. So choosing more "mature" aspects is move I greatly apreciace..since I grew tired of most Shounen tropes.

I’ve been watching both the original and the new Trigun at the same time and I love them both! But for different reasons. The older one is funny and slower paced, the new is faster with great cgi. I think they’re both very good for their respective eras

Both are good, incomparable. The same good story can't go wrong even being shown in a different way. Haters are hating for one reason all the time, and that is they can't accept things they didn't think about before of how it have to be done, usually people that stagnates because is hard to walk a path.

It’s all bias coming from it being a reboot that’s not entirely faithful and is all cgi. The only real problems the show has is the pacing is a bit weird at points and some of the music choice is straight ass (the music itself is great though).

... this post has pretty much everything I'd include in my post. That's why I will only say: I fully agree, and I couldn't have worded it better myself to sum up that kind of mindset represented by said people in a short way.

Well, I'd actually add something. Reading comprehension, or rather lack of it. Many critics complained as heck on how this show is different to the manga, while the first Trigun anime was a solid adaptation. First of all, this show was meant to tell an anime original story. If somebody wanted to see something else, then it's not this anime's fault. It's like blaming the Sun that it's dark outside during the night. Quite ridicilous, eh? Being salty about reboot that is advertised as a reboot to not be 1:1 adaptation of the source material.

About the second point, the original anime - however good - wasn't a faithful adaptation due to the fact that the studio had to improvise, since there were no more chapters to adapt back then, aside from Trigun manga (Trigun Maximum is its sequel; it's longer and more seinen-like, while "base" Trigun has more shounen-like elements).

There are people biased against CG anime. There are also people wearing nostalgia goggles and being stubborn/narrow-minded about the new adaptation heading in a different direction.

Its score at the moment is rising steadily so I think it's all good. It's not alarming that its under 8.00 since on MAL people tend to only rate after they are done watching. After the finale, the rating should rise (7.42 atm).

The original anime is full of bullshit. It significantly cuts and alters characters to make them much worse than they were in the manga. Stampede is more respectful of the source material. It is interpreting the manga in new but respectfully interesting ways that do not feel as gimped as the original anime.

Stampede does the same thing. It deviates even further from the manga in terms of adapting the source material, but that’s to be expected considering it’s telling it’s own story with it’s own new world & characters.

Even if it was at all above average, the real question is why is it called Trigun? It's obviously just milking a franchise that everyone except its fans have forgotten about, basically an insult aimed only at them. It can easily just have a different name and not be judged for what its not, but instead it will now be just another bad remake like berserk.

mediocrity can't create something new and survive

thus it has to co-opt and parasite off things other people created.

I think it depends. Kinda apples and oranges. Some people just flat don’t like cgi in anime period. Some people are going to hate that it’s not the same as the original. Some people are going to hate that they made this in the first place (since there is already a great anime already)

I think the animation is incredible, they got right into the story with no real filler, but they also could have fleshed out the characters a bit more. It’s a great adaptation. But they are not going to please everyone with it.

I’d say just sit back and enjoy the ride, who cares about what others think. Nobody but themselves are going to change their opinion of anything.

Even discounting the original anime and the manga, it's just a weak show. It's a simple 'beat the bad guy' story with fairly shallow characters and breakneck pacing that can't just slow down or not dispell tension whenever it can.

The CGI animation is better than average and maybe it's a sign for that kind of technology improving, but it has key hindrances such as the framerate, the expressions and character movement, and even that in this show is still better than others I've seen.

Inevitably some people can never take it over the original, and some can't look past the medium to judge it appropriately, but complaints are valid as long as proper points are brought up. Always remember, it is okay to like a bad show, and it is okay to dislike a good show.

I was so discouraged by comments about the poor quality of CGI, but yesterday I watched the first episode only out of curiosity and was surprised because it doesn't look bad at all??? I mean, I am usually first to criticize CGI but it really looks good, the fights are well animated, the expressions look a bit weird sometimes but it is how it is, it will always look a bit akward to me. Overall, it looks dynamic and that's what I appreciate the most. As for the story... I watched all the available episodes yesterday, that's how I was hooked. But note that I haven't watched the original, maybe it really was much better and that's why people are angry, but maybe it's also their nostalgia and the show doesn't have the same vibe for them. For me, without knowing the original Trigun, it's good, it looks good and I love stories like this. Also, I agree with part of the comment above about shallow characters, but I'm not sure about the simplicity of the story, I'm not even sure who is the bad guy in this anymore. So maybe it is simple but more in 'yeah world is complicated' way. But I enjoy it! Give me fights in space, likeable protagonist and moral dilemma and I'm happy.

A little bit of column A and a little bit of column B, I think its hard to not directly compare literally everything to the pre-existing series but at the same time this standalone story really lacks much build up and feels often very half baked from a writing standpoint, like in the original it used comedy as a lead in to the more serious tone of the series' later parts causing there to be a very distinct contrast that emphasized just how dangerous or serious things have gotten, stampede makes the mistake of leading with the drama from the get go and only teasing small slivers of light hearted adventure elements whilst the big dramatic points take up 95% of the screen time leading to them lacking much impact at all cause the high stake emotion is the norm not the exception and it all just sort of blurs together as a result.

I think its probably an ok show in a bubble, but that ok really starts to feel worse when its constantly coming up short to 2 already existent stories and no matter how much I try to seperate it, frankly the series doesn't do enough on its own to actually let me. I think of FMA 2003 and brotherhood, regardless of what one thinks of them fundementally there is so much different from what 2003 does than the source materal even when it is still adating "directly" that it stands as its own beast tonally, thematically, and eventually in plot structure and characterization entirely, it becomes hard to directly compare at least certain elements cause overall its such a different beast, Stampede feels like its running through the motions with only slight tweaks and failing to fully commit to the original aspects.
