This version MUTILATES THE SOUL of Trigun...so terrible

I came into this episode expecting the beginning of the show to be relatively similar to the original series. My expectations were completely subverted. Not only are the characters totally different, but the setup for the plot and order of events has changed entirely. It is clear to me that Trigun Stampede is attempting to establish its own identity from the original series and manga.
I was taken aback by the immediate backstory of Vash, the fact that Milly was replaced with some guy named Roberto De Niro, and the lack of confusion around Vash actually being Vash the Stampede. Heck, he isn't even wanted for the same price. Meryl, who is stated as looking old for her age in the original series, is inferred to look young for her age in this one.
It's not as though I take issue with these changes, but moreso that they were very surprising. I enjoyed the episode and ended up loving the new art style more than I expected myself to. One place where I can so far say I am actually enjoying this over the original is in the world-building. This portrayal of No Man's Land feels much more full of life and lived in so far, whereas in the original series, it felt very desolate and barren. I could understand why someone might prefer the more desolate rendition, but to me, I so far prefer this version of the planet. Overall, I'm rather optimistic for the rest of this series. Let's hope it can at least match the original anime in terms of quality.

i think the CGI is alright, smooth and not choppy but has a weird look
i really dislike the redesigns and no milly (still)

i also am not a big fan on how much this episode covered already compared to the old one (knives, rem, the ship, and so on)

i wonder how it will play out as more episodes air

I've never watched the old Trigun or know anything about it.
But this episode was SO GOOD, the animation, smooth expressions, camera movements, it was all great.
I know Studio Orange did great in Houseki no Kuni and Beastars, but this exceeded my expectations and I loved it a lot

The animation isn't bad since it's Orange, but it's simply unappealing. The original is in my PTW and looks like it will be the only version I'll watch in its entirety.

A solid start for Stampede. Loved the animation and the direction of the story. My favorite part was the subtle world building with the mid card of No Man’s Land. It made me want to see more of the planet. Excited for episode 2.

Okay so, the first few minutes were very... weird? I mean they barely conveyed anything especially to new people it doesn't establish much in terms of the narrative of knives damning humanity to the desert planet and it wastes a lot of time on some space escape sequence... very odd choice.

then Vash hanging upside down alongside corpses... odd again but fine.

then a small sequence about how he saved the town then fight and the "oopsie no bullets XD" which I didn't really like?

I miss the old look, for this episode I'd give it 4.5/10.

As a new person I understood it perfectly. Maybe just don’t be stupid 🤷🏿

I’m a huge fan of the original series and I was so hyped for new anime but… something feels off. CGI is ok, characters are ok but where is Milly?? And what is this plot?? I’m afraid they’re gonna do something similar with it like it was done with BRS… Just borrowing characters and create a whole new anime. Although first episode gave me a nostalgia thank to the setting and beloved characters it was so-so. I’m kind of looking forward to seeing what will happen to this anime

How do you look at this episode an complain about the cgi? Like actually go find an eye doctor, all these damn 80 year old men are annoying me whining about how the original is better. Like goddamn take of your nostalgia glasses and enjoy. I haven’t heard a single good complaint yet 💀

I was going into this pretty skeptical and really felt iffy about the new aesthetic, and all the differences they made with the characters. But I have to say, I really enjoyed this first episode.  They sure did make  Meryl surprisingly cute (both in looks and personality), which is fairly different compared to how she was in the original. I don't dislike it, as now she is easily a lot more likable, fun and even seems to play along with Vash's goofiness now. Having Robert be the serious one is a good change of pace for Meryl.

The CGI looks really good. The funny thing is, you can easily tell they did Beastars because the character movements when they talk is nearly identical XD. It kept reminding me of Beastars while watching them talk to each other. But that's a good thing, they are really good at that and is one of the things that really impressed me about Beastars. This studio is really good at their CGI, and I am glad to see it still is holding true with Trigun Stampede.

Did you watched the first anime? We had the exact same joke about him being out of bullets in the first episode too. And about Vash being tied upside down, Roberto said it was done by the Bad Lad Gang. They probably also stole his bullets. Watch things more carefully next time and you won't be so confused like that.

I've seen it. It's really good and enjoyed it quite a lot. But I do prefer Beastars more. It actually wasn't that long ago that I learned they were the same studio behind Land of the Lustrous. Makes sense though given how good the CGI in that one was as well. I think it was one of the first CGI anime that I actually thought looked great and showed that it could be done well.

I like it! Honestly, I agree. The new animated style and design are fine. I don't think it's too much of a hindrance. Besides, there were a couple of action sequences that were really good in my eyes. I like the tone in the first episode too! Yeah, I think I'm gonna enjoy this new adaption.

Pretty good first episode, was already open to the idea of changes but even just 1 episode was enough for me to adjust to Vash's design and Robert Deniro is a cool addition

still a bit sad it seems like we might not be getting Milly though, I had a bit of hope with the shot of all of them at the plant but the character I coped was Milly ended up being another new character who I imagine won't be important enough to show up much later, otherwise she probably would've been more in the trailers than that one shot

Anime fans calling the animation bad is such an anime fan argument. They're just publicly accepting they're ignorant and know nothing about animation. Another thing I saw a lot, is that they've went full cgi to save money, completely ignoring the fact that Orange is a cgi studio.

If I'm not wrong, during an event with the anime staff, people asked why they replaced Milly with him, and then they answered that Roberto isn't an replacement. Maybe it's a hint that she might still show up later.

First off, Vash looks cool. Hair and glasses nice. Coat… not so much (his old trench was much better).

Meryl is a bit of a disappointment. I miss the overly confident professional who is a stickler for following standards and protocols. This version is characterized as being green and a total newbie to the world —- which doesn't really make any sense to me. Even if someone is just out of journalism school, I get that they could be a little naive, but the way DiNero is constantly berating her, super annoying. Journalists are usually quite up to date with how the world is and how it works. This characterization just feels off to me. Not to mention DiNero is a pretty grating character (with a horrible looking mustache).  Never thought I would miss Milly….

Some of the CG movements seemed a little wonky to me, but other aspects looked quite good.

Fingers crossed this gets better.  I am cautiously hopeful.

It's been over 20 years since I watched the original Trigun so my memory is rather foggy about it, but I think that in the original the background story about the Seed Ships and the two brothers came a lot later in the story.

Otherwise, the new one does generally feel like I remember the original feeling. And the new animation is rather impressive.

I'll watch this one and see how it goes. (I vaguely remember feeling a little disappointed with the ending of the original, but that probably was because I watched Trigun just after I watched the original Japanese broadcast of Cowboy Bepop.)

this is a pretty bad bastardization of the original series in just about every respect. absolutely let down by this. doesn't even feel like anime, and the characters are all wrong not to mention just replacing milly with some guy. this feels like another poor netflix or disney reboot that only uncultured zoomers could like because they never saw the original.

The animation style bothers me to no end. The original anime was so good for it's time. It's hard to watch this in all 3DCGI.

I'm going to give this a go anyway as the story (I am watching it now at 14:06 so far) is pretty good.
Maybe it's the way the frame rate looks but this is gonna be hard. The backgrounds are good though.

Loved Trigun back in the day and wasn't expecting much, but damn....That looked gorgeous. Amazing modern animation. Didn't like Vash's design too much though but it's a small thing.

Your average MAL'er ca.2023 is gonna hate this though.

Are you sure about that? I like the original Trigun and liked this new one too. The first anime is a classic for sure, but it has aged like milk LMAO! The animation just gets worse and worse towards the end, full of inconsistencies. You're being so emotional due the nostalgia effect, so stop crying over nothing and move on, boomer.

The anime industry grows faster than us, so we either adapt or we stay behind lingering, with our beautiful 2D animes.

I was really looking forward to this, and I can't hide my disappointment in the animation approach. The original (rated 10/10 in my list, higher than I rated the manga) essentially sets a variety of high level expectations for returning viewers, art, detail, humour, plot, colours, and characters, basically all that anime used to be about before it fell to miserable levels like CSM or the like.

It's ep 1, it's not a sequel and not a re-make, it'e early and hard to say in what direction the plot is going to, art and animation is not to my liking as I'm just slightly ancient, but I am willing to give it few more episodes chance to redeem itself story-wise, regardless. I would certainly appreciate it if they don't butcher the characters' personalities any further, and I will only say Milly's absence is just incomprehencible and unforgivable, no excuse. Ep 1 was alright, I hope they don't murder an epic series while all knowing too well how high the bar is set
