Me I am concerned with people who love Mob Psycho 100. I understand that the visuals (at times) are jaw dropping. But it's the rest (the cringe) that I can't get over. There is some problem with idealizing abusive relationships in queer stuff, but it got better and it's also the same for straight relationships.

Excluding Chinese since the only reason Chinese manages to avoid that stuff is because of censorship. Also why do you think that Junjou Romantica got multiple seasons and managed to remain one of the most popular BL till Given showed up? Nowadays there is not much difference between queer and straight romances and shippings.

Also it's about queercoded dynamics between two characters of the same gender, or just made up fan shippings too and you know, they are not shipped because they are gay.
People ship them, because they think their personalities and dynamics are great. And don't say "but there are abusive ships", yes there are. As much as straight ones.

No. 6, Banana Fish and Shin Sekai Yori is not BL which leaves Given that still has sexual assault which is a part of the overall series (yes, the anime was good indeed but the movie had to go ahead and do it). Quite ironic that you mentioned how Kyo Kara Maoh is shoujo and parody despite it clearly following the usual tropes and go ahead to list non-BL shows yourself. Also I meant anime only since that gives a pretty good idea of the sort of content that is popular among the fans.

Fujoshis/fudanshis are overly invested in gay ships and avoid straight content so for some it most certainly is because they are gay. I can never get along with fujoshis because the sort of dynamics they like are the kind I hate specially when they say things like, "Not rape, he's just in denial and secretly wanted it" or "Both of them are boys with equally matched physical strength so he could have freed himself from his grip if he wanted to". I've heard those things countless times which brings us to the topic of this thread.

I just gave you anime with good romances between two guys, not necessary bl. Also the tags are different on every page.

I only met three or four people in my life, who I talked to a bit more (including Yuri Crusader), and that were hateful of straight ships.

The other thing is lot of straight couples just aren't good and only there to fulfill romantic and waifu fantasies, so people tend to ship the male characters, because their dynamics are more interesting and all. Look how awfully written the female characters are in series like Clannad, that main girl from Bleach or all the modern romcoms etc.

If straight couples are romantic and waifu bait aren't male ships husbando and fujo-bait to fulfill the fantasies of a different kind of viewers? Good dynamics does not necessarily mean they are romantically interested in each other, what you are doing is no different than the author all of a sudden making ships happen out of nowhere (like Bleach, I wasn't expecting any romantic closure in that one). I've heard that Ao no Flag which you mentioned earlier has the end ship happen without much buildup which is why I'm avoiding that one.

Most don't get bl tags, so I don't care about tags, and the majority of good manga others don't get adaptations.

Yeah, it doesn't mean that they every fan ship is supposed to be seen as romantic, but if I see character dynamics that way, I don't ask for permisson to ship characters, if I want to.
People often don't ask for proof straight ships either, they only cry you a river, as soon as you come around with queer ships and complain "but they are not gay, how dare you ;_;"
Also there is something like queercoding and subtext that mostly homophobes choose to ignore, but as soon as people of the opposite sex talk for three minutes, many people act like they are made for each other.

So uhm... I give not a single fuck about other people's opinions about ships meant to be canon or not.

Spoken like a true fujoshi, you'll ship straight characters and call others homophobic for not seeing them in the same light over fujo-bait and then complain about female character not being well written.

A sufficiently complex work can be appreciated for many different reasons, and without prohibitively difficult analysis (requiring more information than may be possible to obtain) it isn't reasonable to conclude why they like it. The individual in question may not even be able to make this conclusion themselves. The motivations involved for enjoying something are just as complex as individual morality. Kohlberg's categories of moral development work well here (paraphrased): stimulus-response (immediate satisfaction), delayed gratification, duty, and altruism. All of these things can be learned, so it follows that as one matures their tastes will change. There's a "right" time to experience some works, and conversely motivations will change so it is necessary to be aware of the relevant influences at the specific time in question.

An example:
A 5 year-old boy enjoys a movie because it is action-oriented and colorful. He notices that it involves fire engines, and he enjoys those as well.
The boy's father enjoys the same movie because it cracks jokes about workplace culture and has an attractive older woman.
The boy's mother enjoys the same movie because it contains messages about environmental awareness which she feels compelled to share with others.
The boy's grandmother does not enjoy the movie because she believes that the underlying messages are to the detriment of mankind's greater purpose, but she appreciates the artistic vision that was present in any case.

It should be apparent that if the work in question only involved fire engines and colorful action sequences it would be much easier to analyse. Some of the higher-level aspects may not even be apparent to the creators when they make the work.

You know there use to be a time when simply meeting someone online who was into Anime was cool enough. You look how things are today you got users pitted against each other over specific genres and themes.

I think Anime would be boring if there wasn't a bunch of different genres and themes including those that I don't necessarily subscribe to.

There are time when I feel like watching a Shoujo series. Then there are time when I simply just want to watch a bunch of mindless battle Shounen. Other times I am in the mood to watch a trashy Ecchi. Even at times I get into the mood to watch Seasonal throw-aways. I also love watching Retro Anime that most users tend to shy away from due to them being too old to watch (mainly because I grew up with most of these). I also love watching fantasy titles and not just isekai themed ones. I even enjoy at times CGDCT. etc...

How boring this specific community would be if every user was into the exact same Franchises and had the same opinions on everything?

Yes it's cool to meet people who have similar interests but it's also refreshing to meet people whose interest vary. Sometimes meeting people into completely different things can give a viewer a new perspective and open their mind to new things they wouldn't regularly be open to exploring.

I'm pretty sure I thought Rozen Maiden had a generic opening when I watched it. But that was years ago, so I don't remember very well.
Madoka Magica didn't subvert Mai-Hime, it copied it. The world just wasn't ready for edgy magical girls in 2004.

Apart from my close friends no, i'm not scared at all (more like "WARY to not offend them" rather than "scared"). I just interact normally and say my honest thoughts when asked. No sugarcoating, nothing personal. And it applies to all anime.

Dunno, I don't really have a problem with whatever anime another person may like. Even if they like some pretty messed up anime, as long as they don't like those things in real life is all that matters (to me). I can totally get why other people may feel uneasy depending on what anime the other party is into though

Not necessarily. There are more ways as to why a bl anime is made, apart from manga sales of the original it's adapting (most common format). The 6 lovers OVA series got made because the magazine in which the manga were published was having an anniversary. It was stuck in production hell for years and when it finally came out, it was definitely not what the fans wanted. Few minutes long "episodes" taken out of context that made no sense to someone who read the original manga, let alone a first time watcher, is not something I'd call a beloved series.

Also, the amount and variety of bl manga is not comparable to what bl anime is there currently. And little variety plus very few manga based bl that get an anime at all is what many fans have been talking about, it's literally a years long topic. We get maybe one full fledged 10,12 episode bl anime a year, otherwise it's a mix between 5 minute long slideshow quality mostly porn OVAs and maybe a movie per year. That's awfully little to what actually exists out there. Horror/fantasy/supernatural/historical/comedy/drama/slice of life/psychological + bl, you name it. There is a lot more to it than just romance and more to it than just highschoolers.

There's a strong gap between what fans want and what they get. And many will be happy with just about anything that gets an anime simply because of its scarcity. But that doesn't mean they want soulless adaptations or copypaste OVAs someone quickly cooked up to throw 'em a bone and then dissapeared.
