| This. This is Bleach for me. This is my absolute favorite moment in Bleach, and everything that I love and abhor about Bleach in a nutshell. Bleach is a meme. I love how Ichigo is a human/Shinigami/Hollow/Fullbring/Quincy hybrid and how he constantly stacks powers on top of powers for the sake of coolness. Bleach is full of twists for the sake of shock and awe. I love how every big moment snowballs off a prior big moment, as if Kubo is constantly trying to one up himself in terms of mindblowing insanity. I don't even know if everything actually flows properly, but damn does it look and feel cool. And, most importantly, Bleach somehow makes sense. Kubo's same-face syndrome finally coming into play, where Zengetsu looking like Yhwach seemed like Kubo being Kubo, but them being the same person is such an incredibly sensible reason for so many inconsistencies in Ichigo's past. The reason why Urahara was surprised when he first saw Ichigo's Zanpakuto, the reason why Shiro kept talking about the horse and king metaphor, the reason why Ichigo's Bankai sword had a manji design, the reason why Ichigo's Shikai sword didn't have a handguard, the reason why Shiro kept claiming he was the real Zengetsu when he and Ichigo first fought, everything just suddenly connects. It's also the reason why Ichigo's Shikai Getsuga Tenshou is blue akin to Quincy powers, or why reason why Ulquiorra all the way back said Ichigo's Bankai Getsuga Tenshou seemed more like a Hollow's Cero: he's never actually properly used his Shinigami powers. Because of this, Ichigo must have fought during the Soul Society arc using Quincy powers, making this the second time Soul Society's technically been wrecked by a Quincy. Everything just connected via the singular reveal of Zengetsu's identity. It's so ridiculous yet brilliantly masterful how years upon years of Bleach nonsense suddenly added up. As an aside, love how Yhwach somehow one-ups Aizen in terms of Ichigo stalking. Aizen was keeping an eye on Ichigo since before he was born due to the Hollowfication experiment involving his parents, but Yhwach has technically been keeping tabs on Ichigo's entire maternal bloodline, and this manifested as Zengetsu from the very beginning. Things like this solidifies Bleach as my favorite of the 2000s shounen serializations, even to this day. Goddamn, Bleach is somehow incredibly stupid and awesome. I'll never understand how Kubo managed to string all this together. Seeing this animated, along with Number One playing, really brings me back to my high school days. What an amazing nostalgia trip. |

| This is how you do it. Bleach has upped its game big time with this delayed sequel and every aspect of it has been on a higher level. It's stepped back up the cutting edge of battle shounen action that initially made this my favorite anime back in high school. While I doubt it'll ever return to that position, I'm at least extremely optimistic about what's to come. 9/10 |
