That's probably part of the point. These spoiled rich kids feeling like they can do whatever they want. Lives aren't valued that much

The spoiled rich kids are just as in danger as the normal students if a plasma blade or rifle beam hits their cockpit, its an absurd way of training, imagine training fighter jet pilots with live missiles against each other.

Well, it seems there are battlefields designated for duels. But they were “authorized” to continue their duel in the training area just because Guell wanted to show off. It makes sense that rich, powerful heirs can bend the rules to their will.

Those battlefields are still equally dangerous, these duels aren't virtual, getting hit by a plasma blade and then thrown so hard that you shatter the battlefield is still going cause serious damage to the mobile suit and possibly the pilot depending on how much shrapnel is generated or where the plasma blade hits. Imagine if tank crews were trained by firing live ammo at each other, this is the sort of ridiculous training that is going on.

But what exactly is stopping both rich and poor students from seriously hurting each other during this? If the MC was evil or Guell was more dumb, one of them might actually die. A poor student might also disobey the judges and harm the weaker rich students, for example.

I mean, there will probably be explanations as to how pilots are protected from such things during duels. But it is obvious there is some major corruption happening at the school, so it’s not like the people in power would not be able to “disappear” people that they kill. When we saw Suletta duel Guell, they were given a giant space to fight in with no intrusion (besides Suletta on her hover scooter, lol). This is the first episode and it was not like it was an exposition dump, it was crafted to entertain and pull in interest; the moment for explanations will probably happen later. This is kind’ve my gripe with Reincarnated as a Sword’s first episode: lots of explanation on things don’t really care to be invested in, and few moments with character or plot development. But still enjoyed it by the end.

Otherwise, I would call it a pointless attempt to rationalize own desires, but this is already better than just declaring the characters a couple based on a forced engagement.

Judging by "it will definitely be explained later!", you admit that you can't explain it yourself? However, I wouldn't say there's anything like it in Sword Reincarnation, the show is pretty good with the exposure so far.

Regardless of what you say, people will always appreciate a good ship, especially if said ship is already canon. And what are you trying to convince me of, that the show is bad because it didn’t have some random person tell Suletta “people are safe from cockpit damage blah blah blah” that always happen in any sci-if story? It is actually believable that a shy girl like Suletta would be outright ignored or bullied to a degree like we saw. In real life, shy people are often not noticed because they don’t make an impression. I stand by the fact that there will probably be way more info explained in episode two.

I do not need to convince you of anything, at the moment you literally spend a lot of energy and emotions to convince yourself of this. "It's canon!" level arguments and "I will support it no matter what!" so often used in such cases that it has even become a cliché. You could at least say "to be honest, I don't know myself, but I want to believe that this will be explained in the future", but you literally start to state this as a fact, because of which instantly from just a hopeful person, you turn into a fanboy who blindly believes that his favorite show is perfect. It's the same with the tendency to see attempts to prove that "the show is bad" in any indication of weaknesses in the series. So, at the moment you are just brainwashing yourself.

You just seem like a really pessimistic person when it comes to anime, I have a hard time understanding how you even enjoy watching anything lol. Ok, I said probably they will explain, but the people are corrupt and powerful so they can do things how they want, no matter if it makes sense or not. It isn’t my head canon Suletta and Miorine are together, they literally are arranged to marry because of the duel, and Miorine seemed accepting of this. Are you going to deny Miorine’s feelings on this...lol. Last, I am not trying to break down and scrutinize anime. I love the medium and want to embrace it happily. I will offer criticism but I will try my best to enjoy it above all else. It’s that simple.

At the moment it doesn't seem like anything at all, as there is nothing about romance in the promotion of the show and we were just told about the engagement, without any touch of anyone's feelings or sexuality. It's literally a cliffhanger to raise enough hype to keep viewers interested.

I didn't have any idea that would have any semblance of yuri until the ending came. I came for another Gundam project after i enjoyed IBO a good bit. I'd just assume that people were very surprised (like me) about the yuri(bait possibly) revelation, obviously that's gonna get most attention.

Everything else shown in the episode was to my liking, too though, brilliant mecha fights shown, fantastic music and the two MC's showing personality.

Just because I don't give all anime a 10 and admire everything that satisfies my fantasies like you does, it doesn't mean that I'm being pessimistic. To start. Yes, I deny her feelings. Because this is literally the finale of the first episode, we haven't been told anything about any of their motivations yet. Just because she told Suletta that she is now her fiancé and explained that such pairings are not a problem for their society does not make her in love with her yet. Previously, she even literally rejected such an idea as imposed by her father. You can wishful thinking as much as you want and literally after the first episode declare them a canonical couple, without even waiting for two fucking cours to see how it really ends (damn, you are the first person in my memory who instantly tries to pass off his theories about what is happening as an indisputable fact), but I'm too old and mature person for that, sorry. The show is literally being promoted as a new age Gundam that will appeal to new young audiences around the world (c) and continues the studio and writer's conspicuous focus on the political ideas that the west is pushing.

Yeah I don't get it either why these shizos think someone is trying to get hype in the west or on twitter.

This has got to be the most arrogant and self-entitled statement I have heard in a long time. You are denying SAID PERSON IN RELATIONSHIP feelings because it doesn’t fit your narrative...
And I say you are pessimistic because you have yet to utter anything positive or optimistic about the show. You just seem to scour the comments and start arguments with people you disagree with. I don’t really enjoy talking to you, it’s not fun at all haha.

Because Utena is quite popular in the industry and among many authors, as many have either been involved in its production and fondly remember it and / or were inspired by it as professionals. For example, Pokemon has repeatedly done homage to this show due to having some shared animators. You can also take a look at Revue Starlight if you like the Utena-ish show.

I figured out how to explain her feelings, so her feelings are canon and denials are, you deny her feelings!11 - and this person is telling me something about arrogance and selfishness. You literally trying to shame me for refusing to accept your interpretation as dogma and then you still have the audacity to accuse me of promoting a narrative? HAHAHAHA.

You disagree with things that bring me pleasure, so you are a pessimist! And if you don't say something good about the show, then you don't like it! Because people necessarily talk about all the emotions and opinions that they have! Oh. Let me disappoint you, as people get into their 20s, they often stop being so enthusiastic and rely on emotion instead of reason. Therefore, the next time you communicate with an adult, do not try to draw quick conclusions about his thoughts only on the basis of what they wrote or said somewhere. ReZero is one of my all-time favorite shows, but I didn't even get to discuss most of the episodes. Apparently I really don't like it, yes.

Suletta is so fucking annoying. Jesus christ shut the fuck up. The nervous shtick was getting on my nerves badly. However, that battle at the end of the episode was so fucking great that I can let it slide for now. What a beautifully animated show. Haven't kept up with the trailers and news for this and I was caught off guard by the school setting and duel stuff especially after I watching the prologue earlier.

I suggest watching the prologue, it’s way better. As for Suletta’s shyness, I have two feelings on it. On one hand, yes it was really tiring after a while because she kept on stuttering and the dialogue was hard to follow. But on the other hand, she has never gone to school with strangers before, so it makes sense she is really awkward. Also, not to spoil the prologue for you, but some heavy stuff happens, so that may bring context to her behavior. I do hope she becomes more outspoken, and she actually showed a tad bit of it in episode one.

This episode was stupid lol, how the MC let the GUNDAM be stealed so easily? Also it's really ok to show such a weapon to everyone, specially considering her dad and a lot of people where killed because of it?

I'm honestly surprised this is being talked about so much but it would seem for many people the draw isn't mobile suits. I'll wait on this one.

Looking forward for more, Gundam never disappoints.

Lifelong Gundam fan here. You need to watch more Gundam, son. There's plenty of disappointment to go around.

What do you mean by "draw" ? The fact that so much flooding was dedicated to yuri bait and Utena, and not really Gundam itself as a brand?

More or less. For a seasonal show this was way down on what you might call the list of priorities to watch and wouldn't expect a lot of conversation around it. That it reached 5 pages already made me wonder "What is it people are coming here for?" My only concern is if it's good and having seen my fair share of Gundam series (recently got dragged into watching Gundam Wing by my roommate who's even more into the franchise than I am) I'm used to erring on the side of skepticism. I mean Tomino actually said Hathaway's Flash was going to stand up against Kimetsu no Yaiba. Literally wtf no bro lol.

Well, at least a third of these posts are mine, because I'm a fucking sick flooder, lol. But joking aside, the point is that the yuri potential from the ending created quite a bit of hype for the show, so as you can see from the comments, it has attracted quite a few people outside of the fandom who just expect a well-animated yuri with action from it. If you're such an experienced Gundam fan, then I don't think you need to explain how big the yuri thing is and how easily it attracts people who have never even thought about watching a show like this before. A large part of Gundam's fandom already consists of a large number of fujoshi who pretend to be great connoisseurs of mecha in order to enjoy fantasies of ikemens relationships.

It's a lucky fact that I saw the trailer for this gem on YouTube. 10 out of 10.

I find incredible that everyone except the mechanic girl, is pain the ass straight away.

I hope the stuttering will go away fast, because is kinda irritating.

Thank you for reminding me why I became UC purist (or even elitist) in the first place. Generic characters with generic settings and 5-years old logic/realism level complete with generic fan service. Even Darling in the Franxxx which was pretty much fan servies with stories and big robo is a lot more unique and interesting than this syit. Mech design is also a huge downgrade since IBO which is already bad compared to the earlier side-dish "gundam" titles

2/5 only cause the great job on the visuals. If not it'd be 1/5 cause they still managed to finish and deliver this ptthc episode
