Miko shows why she's best girl of this season by default.

I really like this Zen's arc as it is one of the best storylines in the manga.

Great episode! We get to see a bit of Zen sensei's backstory and now I understand 100% why he looked so creepy and depressed all the time...
His mother seemed to be extremely disturbing and controlling as well as most likely very mentally ill after her husband left her...
Miko decides to follow Zen and stops him from taking another cat as she thinks they won't be safe with him but in the end, he risks his life to save one and ends up in hospital. He turn out to be a nice guy and he was bringing all the cats he found on the streets to the vets where his friend works. Zen is actually a nice guy and the ghost of his mother is haunting him so Miko decides to use her third and last lifeline from the shrine maiden spirits to get rid of it for him...

Looking forward to the next episode!

Ah the OP is just too addicting to vibe to, great vibes.

So Zen was actually a good guy, very big misunderstanding there from Miko. But I mean he's a bit creepy, so can you blame her though. It all comes from his...mother that came straight out of Junji Ito Collection, that's the least I could describe her.

With that, Miko has used her "final" lifeline with her savior, it was worth it considering that you're saving a man from past clutches. If all goes well, I am imagining an anime-original ending, but you can prove me wrong (or right), manga readers. Also Miko referring this mission as a time to say "boyfriend" to Hana opens up a new possible ship, and I'm laughing that Hana doesn't even give a care about it, she just accepted it.

It is hard to believe that Mai Nakahara who voiced Nagisa in Clannad is voicing Zen's mother in this series.

And Zen is voice by Yuuichi Nakamura.

- Fairy Tail: Gray and Juvia.

- Clannad: Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa.

unites the resolution of the misunderstanding with Professor Zen was a 6, the chapter would have had more force if Zen really had been mistreating the cats because he was possessed by the spirit of his mother when he saw that the seat with the Miko car occurs in the hospital He meets the vet and tells him about Zen's problem with cats and she decides to try to eliminate the ghost so that the professor can redeem his

I guess i was wrong about the teacher... maybe?!

Now, the question is who is the real killer?

And will something bad happen to Miko after using her last protection? Something like the "You get three wishes granted, then your soul is mine." thingy in the demon stories?

Well, the real question is when the second season starts, lol!

Looking at where the anime lines up with the manga, they'd probably only need 8-12 months to have enough content to not outpace the source material, so I'm really hoping this gets a season 2 announced soon. Especially since I can't see the next episode doing anything more than setting up the next arc.

And we finally get to learn more about Zen-sensei. This is definitely one of my favorite arcs from Mieruko-chan so far, but Mieruko-chan doesn't have too many right now anyways so that's not really worth much haha.

In particular, I really do like the fact that this arc went the path of someone who's innocent being haunted by something malicious. Before, the ghosts that we've seen haunting someone seemed to be ghosts with grudges towards those people, which is why when we see the mother's ghost and the spirit cats it gives us the impression that Zen-sensei was bad. But now it's revealed that it's just simply his abusive mother who is twistedly obsessed with him who still affects him negatively now. :(

It's a nice reminder from the series that just because a person is being haunted doesn't mean they've actually done anything terrible.

Also, props to Satoru for being a great friend. It's nice that he stuck around with Zen since they were children even though Zen had a terrible, abusive mother. That's true friendship right there.

I don't know if I should be satisfied or not about the fan service being absent for most of the episodes now.
"Manga readers are annoying, all they do is complain or spoil the anime we discuss in an anime forum.

The first episode where the teacher appeared had the message of "don't judge book by it's cover" then they reversed it on him and did it all over again, quite cleverly done.

So after the mother of Zen being shown on screen, I was able to put 1+1=2.. The monster following him around is actually his mother's evil spirit... Zen not being the bad guy kinda makes me relieved. It was all a bad misunderstanding. Atleast Hana doesn't have to be on some crazy feasting in the classroom from here on out.

This arc has really been a surprise so far!! Great stuff. But where to now from here on out. She no longer has the shrine maiden's protection anymore.

Nice episode with a good sense of tension and drama when Miko was tailing then running from Zen. I thought those scenes were masterfully done and kept me on the edge. I was actually beginning to think Zen was the culprit but then the reveal confirmed my earlier suspicions. Still the twist was nice and when I saw his mum's freaky face in the second flashback I saw the connection between her and the spirit.

It begins to make sense now and with the spirit now extinguished will this have a positive impact on Zen? More important with all of Miko's lives used up what will happen if she next gets caught seeing a spirit?

Zen was part of a double "don't judge a book for the cover" lesson... first, he was the "good looking guy" that is evil, while the other guy who looks "evil" was the good one... now, they reveal that he was actually good too, XD

didn't expected that, lol

anyway, the last scene was really good... somehow, feels satisfactory seeing Miko directly confronting a ghost, looking at and talking to her, after spend the whole anime in fear trying to pretend not seeing them... but, poor Miko, is now unprotected... time to another trip to the shrine, XD (first thing I would try in her place)

We got a closer look to teacher Toono's past. He had a difficult childhood life, thanks to his possessive mom who loathed him. Always wanting the best out of him, and not accepting any mistakes. The day she found Toono had a cat, she killed it without any remorse. And turns out that even after her death, she was still there to disturb the poor teacher.

Fortunately he has a good friend, called Satoru, who takes care of the cats he finds, since Toono doesn't trust anyone in this task. Miko at first thought bad things of the teacher, who coincidentally thought the other way around, thinking that Miko wanted to hurt the cats. After coming to terms, she decided to make the mother's spirit leave Toono's side.

And right when the ghost was going to attack her, the magic spirits showed up and destroyed it. This is their third and last task with Miko. I hope they decide to stay more. This episode was very insightful, and I really liked it.

Can’t wait for the sequel season; Mieruko-chan: Demon Slayer

Zen’s mother, in human form, is the scariest thing we’ve seen so far.

I love this shit. It’s a simple premise, but then it heavy when it needs to be. People who turned away from this just because of the fan service, are missing out.

I hope they nail the final episode next week.

I just wanna say I called it, not like it was hard to predict but I called it. Turns out Zen wasn’t a cat killer but someone that tries to save cats but often find them dead already, close to what I thought was up with him. I’m glad Miko is such a good gal too, she not only tried to save the cat, but once she learned the truth she used her third save from the alien god things to relieve Zen of the hell beast that was either the ghost of his mom or some kind of ghost he created with his own guilt, and she did it all for Hana. We love and appreciate Miko!

Speaking of Zen’s mom, man was she cruddy, terrible parents in anime always get me riled up, I’m glad Zen doesn’t have to deal with her anymore. And there’s only one more week of this left, this has been 100% my favorite anime this season, in a season with so much good this is the one I enjoyed the most, I’ll miss it immensely

There's definitely more going on here.
If it is the case that Zen is actually caring and rescues cats, then I'm going to go with the theory that the cats spirits haunting him would be like the bog softy who got the first cat. The reason they looked tormented is probably because of his mother's evil spirits haunting him and affecting them as a result.

Miko used her last protection to rid Zen of that spirit and it's next episode where we'll see if that truely pays off.

As viewers, we saw Zen answer the door with blood on his hand and also straight up be an ass by throwing out the stew he was given by a neighbour. We also know that there was someone about to do something very not nice to a stray. It was likely meant to look like Zen to keep the appearance up. But if it wasn't Zen, will we get to find out who it actually is?

I am not too surprised by the twist that he is not an animal murder, but damn can I say it was well executed. The show overall started off as something fun to watch but has exceeded my expectations often especially with the yakuza guy and his dead wife and two cats like goddamn punch to the feels. Then her father being dead (which considering how fresh it seems in everyone's mind it's probably what caused her seeing to manifest that's just my theory though). I'm super interested to see where the shinto god plot thread goes and if I'm being honest I'm probably going to pick up the manga after the anime is done airing

Well, well, well, how the turntables...
As someone who hasn't read the manga yet, I wasn't expecting this at all. I liked that backstory and the mother was frightening even alive. Those eyes man.

Anyway, you're not fooling me there, the sensei wanted to get isekai'd into a cat-girl world but it didn't work because it was a car, not a truck-kun.

For a Hana-less episode, it was very entertaining and fun to watch. Can't wait for the last one. 5/5.

Great episode! Sorry for ever doubting you Zen, you're a good boy.

Hana eating in class this episode was hilarious and cute lmao.

The moment I saw Zen's mother in the beginning, I knew it was the ghost following him around. Damn, really controlling his life even when she's dead. Zen's friend is a real bro though.

That last scene was fucking awesome though, Miko's so brave for that. She used up all her protections now though, I wonder how she'll deal with future dangerous ghosts now. Really looking forward to the last episode, definitely reading the manga after the season ends.

My theory on this:
1. The cats were somehow killed by the mother, and these cats are trying to haunt another ghost (?). These cats would probably depart to afterlife once the mother is gone.
2. To plot twist even more, the "good" guy with tattoos is actually the cat abuser. I have no idea how he tortures or kills the cats though, and how the dead cats appear to be good spirits...

Very good adaptation but I still think manga version of hospital scene had more power

To add, I think the manga also made it clearer that Miko very deliberately decided to spend her last protection to help Zen, and fully expected the gold spirits to show up and exorcise his mother's ghost. Whereas here her reaction kinda sounded like she forgot about them and thought she could just run away? IDK if anyone else got that impression, but I really feel like the manga did this scene a lot better.

Yes, the truth about Zen sensei are finally revealed.
Ooh, they animated the mother as scary as the manga is but too bad, i'd prefer the manga art when the mother attacking Miko at the hospital.

Finally Zen is free and Miko realized she saying don't judge book by it's cover when meeting Zen at the first time is actually hit back at her since she's the one judging the book by it's cover as well.

Well, my thought is, the mother processed Zen body and killed those cats.
Next one is the last episode.

Impressive episode, I didn't expect that the teacher turned out to be a friend of cats. I was scared for the most part this episode, Miko really had a brave day to be able to face Zen, it could have ended really bad for her if he would have been a crazy creature.

The backstory was sad, the mum reminded me of Akira Midousuji, scaaary

In the hospital Miko even adressed the shitty spirit and lured it into a trap and then bang! the "good" spirits hit it hard. I think it would be pretty lame if the protection simply ends after 3 times, Miko might be forced to give something to them for additional support.

Just a question, so the mums spirit didn't kill cats? just that one when she was still alive.

Maybe his mother, idk.

Damn, my prediction toward the ghost that reside the poor sensei body was truly her. I had a feeling from a mile about that, because of how protective the ghost and how sensei was not looks like a kind of playboy like several episode before about that kind of person. So, its just easily narrowing it down into such an answer.

As the cat ghost that following him around also been explain too, and as why her mother become kind of spirit, idk. Maybe her overprotectiveness becoming such a curse for her soul when she died, either because of illness, or any unknown reason, that make the soul of her also become an overly possessive scary-looking spirit like that. Big oof for that.

As expected too, the last protection really needed to destroyed Zen's mother spirit. But i really need to appreciate Miko's gut with the decision to following him into that place, and even confront with such a scary looks like those damn ghost. Even though somehow she can be dumb and naive to make a better choice around. But at least, this time she manage to sort it off.

Alright, time to end the ride. I am pretty sure if she just visit and make a wish again at those kitsune shrine, she will be granted again with more protection. But, i feel like it may become dull because of repetitiveness. So, yeah, i think they really need to add the exorcist people, and turn this into a battle action anime, or maybe can even collaborated with jjk. Ill give the next season (if any) with straight 10 if the plot is heading there...

I really love how they unexpectedly made this episode a twist and contrary to the given scenes from the previous episodes. To think Zen-sensei's mother was actually that monstrous evil spirit possessing him and those black cats possessing him are more or less dying cats that he found.

My speculation from the previous episode was completely shattered but in a good way. Now we will have to wait for the next episode or the aftermath after having successfully used up all her divine protection. I wonder what will happen next!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

It's definitely a nice callback that looks prove to be deceiving for both of the people who came for the cats early on, but I do still feel the manga executed this slightly better in terms of balancing the explanatory flashbacks with the present Zen.

In a way, it's kind of messed up that the mother arguably looks more monstrous in human form than in her malicious spirit form; I don't think that was necessary to hammer the point home that the mother is outright evil even in death (actions speak louder than words, after all).

And finally we have animated the most popular cartoon of the manga, as is always inevitable, some of the impact that the scene transmits is lost but it is a pleasure to see it in anime format.
The mystery of the teacher and the ghost of his mother is finally explained, he showed himself as a good guy for whom Miko is willing to spend her last help, and in the process reduce Hana's gluttony.
