Is it me, or is this one of the first shows where added anime original content appears to be happily accepted?

It's because the anime original scenes serves as a replacement for some of the narration which takes place in the light novels. It's not going into fanfic territory.

Pretty good episode handling the fallout from Kaie's death. 86 squad pretty much just go on as nothing had happened. That's war for you. Bit of an awkward call like "I'm sorry please tell me your names" but it's nice they were able to push past that in a single episode.

I am here for the relationships between characters rather than the "mecha" fights tbh.
Looking forward to the next one.

As an anime viewer only, I like how the show keeps getting better and better with characterization and build up.

Personally, I disagree entirely with Lena's uncle point of view about ideals. Ideals might be unreachable, but it doesn't mean people shouldn't struggle to narrow the gap. Especially because idealizations are not just about high politics, but affect our own life too, after all one can not live without ideals about himself.

Well... lots of death flags in this episode. I hope this doesn't end up the new Akame ga Kill. And obviously, I hope Lena and Shin meet each other eventually... that would be a great end scene, a cliffhanger for an next season (I shipp then since day one).

Sorry for any mispealling. I am not a native speaker.

It was so odd seeing Undertaker Smile at the end. That was like. Something too genuine to occur. Almost out of place on his face. It doesn't even look good on his face i could say.

Speaking of genuine ; the entire thing about death and the weight a name holds....that's not only applicable to the anime.

Irl too i reckon, if you don't know someone's name you'd feel indifferent if they passed away.
It's a never ending cycle and it's good to see the way it's portrayed as an obstacle for the Young Major to overcome.

Episode pog :D

I get the feeling they'll change her picture on that paper at the end of the series to something nice. They keep going back to shots of those pictures lined up on the wall so I get the feeling it'll mean something later on.

I really hope the MC at some point actually leaves the safe haven and goes to where the rest of the gang is and fights alongside them. It would be cute seeing her interact with them all and getting along with the other girls like they were in the waterfall area.

I watch some youtuber (anime only, obviously) said that fox commander was lena's father.

I don't see any scene in this episode that leading to that.

In fact he is not the Fox commander.
Lena's father was an high ranking officer and, as you seen in the flashback, not exactly young. He also died when Lena was a child and Theo at the time was still in the internment camps considering that he has the same age of her.

Another fantastic episode! I am really loving the characterization in this show and how they're slowly building things up. Man, I knew that one frame in the OP with the flower fields was gonna add those that have died, feels bad. I am not looking forward to the future of that one frame.

The directing as well is still phenomenal, especially when Lena was remembering Theo's words while that announcement of the Republic is playing in the background, it just really hits home how terrible their situation are. I am glad Lena owned up to her mistakes and made up for it, this is I guess a new beginning for her, though I doubt that's the only new beginning she's gonna get, there's probably gonna be more pain and suffering on the way, fuck.

I guess Shin's brother is the one that saved Lena, that ending scene was unsettling, plus that creepy smile from Shin. New ED was fire though, based Sawano. I am guessing we're gonna get multiple endings, Sawano is blessing us. Really looking forward to the next episode.

It was a decent episode. But there's something that doesn't add up.

Just a day after Kaie's death they are back in cheerful mode in the barracks. If they can easily flip a switch and ignore all the sorrow and remorse about a fallen comrade, then they probably don't care at all about each other in the first place. And if they don't care at all between them because their deaths are such a common thing, then there wasn't a good reason to feel angry at Lena when Kaie jumped foolishly towards her own death.

Well, he wasn't angry at her for the death per se. He was angry at her mainly for the hypocrisy. If, after the death, Lena had said "good work y'all. 86 die all the time, it's not a big deal" or even "serves you pigs right, you all should die" then Theo wouldn't have gone out on her, at least not for that reason. He went off at her right when she started saying "sorry, blah blah blah". That is also why the "asking the real names" thingy was highlighted. Theo wanted to point out that just by apologizing and sweet talking to them everyday won't make them all buddy buddy when she is using them as meat shields while sitting on her comfy couch. He wanted to say that she pretends that she is so much better than all the other alba when she is basically doing the same thing. This is also where the "we won't accept you and consider you our equal unless you join us" thing comes into play.

Amazing episode.

After this episode I can say for certain that 86 will probably bet one of, if not my favorite anime of this season. I know A-1 Pictures can be really hit or miss at times, but this one is definitely looking like a hit from me.

It's actually quite sad to see so many mecha/fighting anime in the Recommendation channel. I personally feel that 86 is more similar to Project Itoh instead those mecha works. I really feel dangerous for this anime's final score, as the fighting sense is going less and less in recent episodes, and it has become farther away from those audiences' expectation.

I'm glad that everything was finally resolved and they're happy that they were asked their name by their handler. We were also shown Shin's brother, Shourei Nouzen.

Lastly, Idk what the LN readers were complaining about. I personally really like this. Could it be due to poor adaptation, too haste and lots of cuts?

I mean this series is pretty big in japan and the anime did trend in japan yesterday so that's very positive. Also the anime stays at #1 spot for 3 consecutive weeks in anime subreddit and until now, and in the other sites the anime is atleast in the top 3.

I think they're going to show it when the anime gets to the point about that legion twist thing. They even show the river scene when i thought it was removed for the anime. So maybe...

So far so good. Love the interactions between the characters so far and also how the anime attempt to look at the reality of social differences and stereotyping on top of some mecha actions.

We get to see the perspective of the people on the frontline and the backline. Never knew that names can be a powerful tool. But somehow it feels as though some death flags will be set up after knowing those names, and shit will go down after this 'chill' episode soon.

Definitely one of the more interesting anime this season and hope it doesn't disappoint after a decent start.

There's something lacking in this anime. Despite all the drama, it feels pretty hollow. I don't know why. I'm also getting tired of the storytelling style of repeating the same time from different perspectives. It was interesting at first, but now it's getting boring.

That was a pretty solid written episode. Glad they didn't took the easy root of them accepting her just because she was nice to them. Although the story still needs to prove why it won so many awards, so let's wait and see.

Highlight is again the direction, that definitely know how to intensify a moment only using camera and sound design. Overall it still is a pretty good show from this Season.

Can't even begin to imagine how the average person's mental would look like if they witnessed 561 deaths of people who fought alongside 'em, as the survivor carrying them to their final destination.

Shin's own mental must be next level on the fortitude.

It's kinda the interesting the overall main theme on injustice and inaction when applied to a wider range of different issues not just within the story. That said the characters are really starting to grow on me. I really do like the direction of this series the different cut aways work very well.

That end credits scene when Lena asks about Shourei Nouzen was directed perfectly!

From the different camera pans, to the focus on Shin’s eyes when he recalls his brother in a flashback...They really nail down the emphasis and impact when it matters!
Shin finally shows us some emotion.

Really looking forward to how the next episode addresses his story.

Good thing they all made up.

It's difficult to remember their names. Currently I can only remember Lena, Shin and Theo (after that emotional breakdown I won't forget his name XD)

I really like Shin's personality. He gives off the vibes of those typical quiet but rude characters but I like how Shin is quiet and speaks when he needs to and handles everything so maturely.

That ended with a twist. I wonder how Lena knows Shin's older brother.

Wow thats quite a big words from Laughing Fox, he was not even laugh. Well, poor Lena, honestly. She was still a little girl after all. Still, she tough it out somehow, as how the two important person in her 'convenience' lives already gave her a 'straight to the point' advices. But Lena simply just can't be a coward white pig like the two previous person wanted her to be.

A little glimpse of her flashback showed the 86 battlefield which took her father life completely. Its become the motivation for the white princess to keep the idealism as high as possible. The persistency reached the Spearhead Squadron. 561 names. Idk how Shin can be so tough saving all the name in his brain! They finally introduced their real name, by themself. Shin in the last wave, while Theo and Raiden once again aired a nice speech there, thos3 same with some of them expressed some other words. I thought they forget that shit or what, but looks like i am wrong previously. Lol.

Well, looks like they were back in a good mood again. Then Shin also giving his full name to Lena, which continuing the conversation between those two into a whole new level. Okay, thats intriguing. Lets see next!

Man, I really disliked the route the show went this episode. It doesn't seem like Lena actually changed in any way, she's still as annoying, naive, and supercilious as ever. That scene where she called Nozen was really annoying as well, it was not his place to tell her everybody's names, they both went behind everyone's backs and the fact she asked for it after the fact doesn't negate that at all, like too little too late girl.

All the other characters are just merging in one for me as there seems to be next to zero difference in how they're taking this. For young people fighting and dying on the battlefield every day of their lives, their reactions just feel empty, as if the author just needed to bring this plot point to the end trying to move the plot along without taking into consideration any other point of view. 2/5 episode for me.

So, where's is Kaie’s death on screen? Well, I don't mind as long we have characters interactions.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Alright we have best/worst behind us. I hate this awkward breaking ice past grievances talks, but they are important for character development. Now it's time for Shinei to deal with his past. And they still left important part of Kaie's death untold, we certainly have to go back to it again.
