the MC is so self-important and arrogant to me that i'm thinking they have yet to either show us why she acts so cool at 15 and just graduated or she's just another dark element to this whole story...

Another pretty sad story, it was more than obvious that the princess and that story at the beginning were somehow related, but damn, what a dad...

I wonder if all episodes will be like this.

This show is becoming a lot darker than what I thought it was going to be. Feels like I am reading 17th century folk tales instead of watching the happy Disney version of the story I thought I was going to get.

Definitely seeing this series try to relate to more grim fantasy/darker elements. Which has come as a very serious surprise for me with the first two episodes of the series along with the art style.
Have a great day!

Pretty dark tbh, wasn't expecting that dragon and a new Witch to be introduced, it seems like every time Elaina goes on another journey she meets another person and see there dark side, but it's somehow interesting.

Better than the last episode, but that's not hard considering it was so egregiously awful in every sense that there was really no way it could get worse.

Elaina is definitely the bane of this entire show. She's so insufferable with her sociopathic personality that apparently is very inconsistent. Slave girl who needs your help from a fat guy? No way, can't get involved with that. Massive dragon demon that's already destroyed a country and its people? It's time to help! Although reluctantly, despite the fact she was given food and a place to sleep when she stated herself she would freeze to death if she kept going. What an atrociously awful character.

As for the episode itself, a fairly simple message about revenge and how it ultimately is never worth it. Now that I know this show is unusually cruel, I knew there was going to be some twist to an already cruel situation. The dragon being someone she knew was blatently obvious.

Honestly, I don't see the appeal to this show. It's aimless, it has no goal and the main character is only an observer. What's the point of anything? If Elaina has no interest in helping others, why does she exist? Her goal of becoming a witch and traveling is fulfilled, therefore there is no goal and Elaina has no development. You can't even cheer for her because she's living her dream, and she doesn't contribute to anything so you can't root for her in whatever situation she finds herself in.

Just becuase a show is trying to convey a message or lesson doesn't automatically make it good. If it's execution is poor it renderd it all pointless.

Good pacing in this episode. The princess may be one of the best Majo in the story (?), as it seems that she used more powerful magic than Elaina, and the battle scene is so cool.

Well at first, I thought the monster her loved one, but when she said she hated it I knew it was her father.

However, there is still no explanation on how the father caught the princess and how she escaped. But caring too much about the rationality of the story would make me feel awkward, because it seems that the author just wants to write a story about revenge.

And Elaina, maintaining a consistently neutral stance, who is really grown on me. The production is excellent so far, and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I have a thing to dislike characters who don't care for random people and that probably ruins the show for me last episode was a bit like that I know i get it why
she should helps them... they are just strangers.

this one reclaimed herself by helping out the princess. in the end it was still a dark
ending and a tragedy as well.

Another dark episode.

I was expecting Elaina to be a saint who'd help everyone and did the right thing but instead we have a pretty realistic Elaina who'd help others only if there's something for her in it. It's kinda good and I like it.

Damn Mirarose was strong. Too bad she's a crazy woman.

I don't know why many people would hold a view that Elaine is cold-blooded. Is it that if I'm a Majo, I have to save the world? Or what Peter Parker said like "with great power, comes great responsibility"? Sorry she is not a heroine but a traveler and she does help others. When others need her help, she will lend a helping hand. Of course, this should be within her reach. For example, in episode 3, no one asked for her help. In the second part the girl has been desperate and she can't help forever. In the first part, if the state have never called a Majo to kill the flowers but let them grow. For a passing traveler, does he have to so such a dangerous thing? If I were him, I'd run away immediately and not get involved in it.

We can see in this episode that Elaine is less capable than Mirarose. In fact she just began her travel, and she was not strong enough. That would also explain why she didn't save the people in episode 3. Moreover, her mother had told her to keep away from danger. You can not force a traveler to do something that threatens her life.

As you say, Elaine is a realistic girl. She is a traveler, traveling to see the vast world, not to save the world.

(Just see many posts in which many people hate Elaina and want to say something good for her lol)

Interesting episode as Always.

Hate leads to more hate and helping isn't always the solution. Marirose wasn't a hero, yes she was a victim of despair but you can't deny that she got lost in it too much. That fight scene was soo good! Even monsters can get death by a thousand cuts.
Elaina is interesting and yes just an observer as always. I do get why some people dislike that and i respect that but there are stories with heroes , villains but also those just doing their thing. Just like Elaina's hair not in the black nor the white maybe a bit closer to white but can't be it entirely. Maybe she'll get some development soon who knows?

I like how it isn't about " I should help this town because I'm a hero" but rather being a small part of someone else's story and observing from there and trying to help if i can, it's a unique theme that needs to be understood more, i know it isn't for everyone but ey everyone has their own taste and so far this show I'm enjoying a lot.

The price of Mirarose's revenge was her sanity. Once she got her revenge, there was nothing to live for anymore (no kingdom to reign over, no people to spend her time with), so she became trapped in a happy illusion of her lover and, presumably, their child, alive and well and living together. Very sad episode.

@GavinHon

Fully agree with what you said. Elaina's journey is about learning how the world works after breaking free from her bubble. Elaina has a great head on her shoulders and approaches every new situation with caution. It's actually refreshing to see compared to the tired anime trope of having the MC willing to put their life on the line for every rando they exchanged 2 lines with.

I am afraid that this Anime will just repeat what it's doing right now, I hope not.

A fallen kingdom that had a very slefish king.

A woman who wants to avenge her husband and her child.

Also this princess is broken legit nothing but a sad soul.

Elina is still watching other people's lives.

Looking forward for more!
Dec 14, 2020 2:13 PM
Is that a Fate reference? Nice, I wasn't the only one who realized the Gate of Babylon reference lol. Honestly, I don't blame the princess for going insane after seeing her husband and baby being tortured to death.

I have come to the conclusion that every new discussion thread is just gonna be filled with idiots who somehow think Elaina is some all powerful god of a witch who can solve problems and be a hero to random strangers.

Like, if you honestly think this, just drop the show. Your complaints add nothing to the actual discussion cause the show itself already makes things pretty obvious.

Elaina is an above average novice witch. In Episode 1, Fran kicked her ass in a fight. In Episode 3, there was nothing she could do against the flower field and expecting her to defeat slavery is being ridiculous. And now in Episode 4, people expect her to stand up to this new witch who is clearly far superior to her in terms of power level. She would get rekt without much effort.

People in this thread sure do talk big, like if they were in Elaina's shoes they would do the opposite of her and bring happiness to those who they come across. How does the inside of your colons smell, cause your heads are pretty far up there.

As someone who has read at least the first 2 Volumes of the novels, let me just warn you know. These type of tragic and dark stories are pretty much the norm, so just drop the series and move on instead of cry and moan every single week.

For god sake, thaaanxs.
I'm late, but thanxs.

I will continu and I hope Elaina is still like that. Not a stupid shounen protagonist like.

Alright so this is basically directed to all who complained last chapter. She tried to save her in case something went wrong. Still it´s strange how she wanted to save her but not Nino or Emil or the citizens infected by the flower. Maybe that´s part of her development as a person. Nice backstory here. 4/5

I'm confused on this as well. She'll only help if she is asked to help?

wow this epiodes kep getting darker we went from a deprsd girl for hr out of reach dreams and th solitude of a big city to man eating plants to an abused slave girl depresed to th point that sh probably kills herself after Elaina leaves and now a pricess went insane and killed her hole kingdom. not sure if i want to se how they top this the next or just see Elaina visit a more cheerfull place.

I man th show is good, its just that you dont expect it to go thi dark from the cheerful art and first episode.

Another bittersweet fairytale.

You may not like it , but it teaches different morales with each new story , just like @miscshade said.
Elaina is just a narrator most of the time and narrator has to be true neutral to avoid bias.

The father having killed the lover and the child but turned into a monster that kills everyone in the kingdom, pretty sure Mirarose doesn't understand the law of equivalent exchange. I was a bit slow to realise that she's good at cooking because she loved the cook, pretty sad to see her in that disillusioned state at the end.

A semi-sad episode.

At least it was a revenge plot and the other witch isn't a pure murder that did it just for fun.

Downside is that all other innocent people in the city is now dead.

Well, Elaina at least did something this time and sorta solved it I guess... (cause no one else is going to be dying with the King dead and the other witch staying in the castle going crazy, by no one else I mean the other witch isn't going to destroy other cities)

And Elaina maybe learned something? lol

I wonder tho... how the hell is the world Elaina living in so chaotic and have bunch of witches living in with god-like powers to heal, rewind time, go Zeus or even Gilgamesh, yet no one is solving or doing anything about it?

Elaina's travels literally tells the story of how fucked up the world she's living in is... It's like the witches are literally just there for the fun of it...

___ ___ ___

(can't wait to watch upcoming season's "After killing slimes for 300 years, I become max level" where the MC witch in that series is all about going around helping people and solving problems)

Elaina stumbles upon a place in ruins, with only a castle still standing. There she meets an amnesia ridden woman, Mirarose, a witch, who has been giving the task of defeating the Javalier that has destroyed the city by a letter.

Mirarose lost what was precious to her, so to turn her own father into the Javalier is quite the scheme. I did feel sorry for her, but there was too many civilian casualties in her revenge to say that it was justifiable.

Apart from the backgrounds, which have been really great the last few eps, the effects from the spells and the spells in general are remarkable. Just the sound design, the colours and the impact they have are impressive.

Well, Elaina, I guess, just wants to be observer of the world.. And not involve herself in the things, let them go how they go.. She also just wants to survive herself as well.. Taking on that monster is risky, and she has no idea, how powerful that monster is, or what it can do..
I guess, we'll see majorly Elaina like this.. Trying to stay neutral in things.. Well, not all characters have to be heroes and die..
Bread, eggs and meat.. Perfect breakfast~ ;P Only some minor additions like tea or something, but if anything some other drinks can do.. ;P
Milarose isn't good or bad herself.. She had her motives, but on the other hand killed more people than actually did harm.. But, I guess, supporting the king is a harm in itself, you can say.. Still not the whitest of things, but also not the blackest as well.. Either way she ended up in some state of delusions..

dark episode again. But the king was asking for it.. burn alive the man that his daughter loves. Also I assume the child was burned as well.

Elaina helped a lot, digging a hole to exhaustion of herself. Also willing to risk her life fighting the monster, in case Mirarose needed help.

however, it turned out Mira has some screws loose already. Elaina did the right thing getting out of that place. Who knows what that crazy person might do to her.

Yet again we see another dark episode this time with a cold touch

That was brutal and cold at the same time just mass damage all around Mirarose's trap and while Elaina was watching from the backlines she made the best choice so far which she wasn't involving herself in this battle

A major step up from the previous episodes I must say that it's becoming deeper and darker while episodes progress I just hope that Elaina still strives to survive till the end.

Ngl the princess in the castle all alone seems sussy.

This episode had some great backgrounds. The falling snow in the ruined city was beautiful.

Was expecting the princess to die, but turns out she's really OP. Great fight scene. The Javalier looked really sick.

Damn that twist got me. Wasn't expecting a revenge story, and a fucked up one at that.

Dark ending. The princess living in her own delusion. She got revenge, but at what cost.

Good episode. Surprised at how dark this series is getting.

So... Princess and the cook fell in love with each other and have a child. King orders to kill the cook.
I was kinda expeting that the monster would be princess child (turned into monster just to punish princess for having sex with someone outside her social class), but nope, it's her cursed father. Either I wasn't watching carefully enough or the child... dissapeared?

Love not always conquer all, it seems.

BTW, when I saw city destroyed at the beginning of the episode, I thought that Elaine travelled in time to late 30's or early 40's, it looked too much like after wartime bombardment. Nope, it's still pseudo-medieval fantasy period. With princesses and all.

Elaina doesn't seem to have any interesting or redeeming qualities. "What do I have to gain by helping you?" I don't know man, how about the fact that you were just complaining about potentially freezing to death? Mirarose, for as shady as she was, had no qualms with helping Elaina, and yet none of that was reciprocated. Even if only out of courtesy.

Though, the show as a whole is still pretty good. The stories are at least somewhat interesting, and the animation and combat is pure eye-candy. I just wish I cared about the main character, even if only a little.

Average episode I would say, we see more stories/incidents that occurred during Elaina's journey this time it was about a princess who is also a witch and her boyfriend who was a cook in her own country and fell in love with him and she was also pregnant but her father didn't like this and killed the cook, and we see how the princess took her revenge against her father.

I give this episode 4/10.
