I really really liked this episode. It showed a glimpse of Subaru's past life and his parents. It was so heartwarming and I knew it was kind of a trial for him. I just love the cute stuff like this. I also love to see where he gets his features from as well. I am excited for more!

They are crying because they are normal humans. Re:Zero has a focus on character drama & emotions.

Just an FYI, there's a lot more crying left in this season (in future episodes).

Watch Dragon Ball or some other action pack shonen if you don't want to see people crying all the time.

why are you so offended? calm down buddy. season one made me emotional multiple times but this episode wasn't it for me stop being so hurt

I'm not hurt or offended. I was just giving you a heads up. This season is more on the drama side with slower buildup & consistent darker themes, as opposed to season 1 which had more sudden shock factor and gruesome horror thrown in between fluffy and light-hearted moments. Moreover, this season is dialogue-heavy (less "flashy" compared to S1), you'll have to rely more on reading between the lines, and analyzing the dialogues to understand the characters better.

We can see lot more meaning behind all of his dialogues and actions in Season 1 if we analyze the dialogues in this episode and view things in retrospection. For example:-

His arguments with Julius in the royal palace when he made a complete fool out of himself.

And connecting it to:-

And many more..

This is the QA:-

Q: Now that their eldest son Subaru has been summoned to another world, what’s the situation in the Natsuki household? They seem like a couple that it wouldn’t be too surprising if they chased after him to the other world.
A: They’re enduring the disappearance of their eldest son somehow or other. The police investigation has no leads, and Kenichi is trying to comfort Naoko but it’s not that effective. They’re passing each day tearfully.

People never change
‘It may be admitted that if it were possible for us to have so deep an insight into a human's way of thinking, as it shows itself both through inner and outer actions, that every, even the least incentive to these actions and all external occasions which affect them, were so known to us, then his future conduct could be predicted as certainly as the appearance of a solar or a lunar eclipse.’ Critique of Practical Reason, p. 230 of the Rosenkranz.

Know someone whose encountered a scenario that's pretty similar to Subaru minus the loving parents. Couldn't help but be reminded watching this episode. Though sadly, finding that someone to help break out of their shell is not that convenient nor be expected to be isekai'd in a world of waifus. I wonder if this scenario is rather common for Japan considering the hikkimori population.

Finally got to see subaru's past. Lasted longer than i expected but its fine. More interested in what the witch of greed thinks of earth. Didnt she originate in whatever world he was transported to? I would think that she would naturally want to explore earth if shes not from there but whatever. Looking forward to the next episode.

Damn, this episode was simply amazing. Not just that, but it packed an emotional punch to it, as well.

Going "back" to see his parents really helped to develop Subaru's character even more. Granted, we did get a handful of comedic moments, with Subaru and his father wrestling and the refusal to eat a bowl of peas for breakfast made me laugh, but it was the heart-to-heart talk that Subaru had with his father that made this episode so memorable.

It showcased some of Subaru's darkest thoughts of feeling so useless and he did want his parents to give up on him. Thankfully, both of his parents kept faith that Subaru will bounce back and hearing the words of encouragement from his father was enough to make Subaru break down into a sobbing mess. It made me tear up, too. X3

Subaru's talk with his mother on the way to school also packed another emotional punch, too. Even during his dark moments while refusing to go to school, she would always see him off with a "take care", and those words really hits home. It certainly did to Subaru and the way he smiled and waved back to his mother as they parted ways was beautiful to behold.

To round off the episode, Subaru arrives at his classroom and as he opened up the door, the only person waiting for him was no other than Echidna. Although this was a good spot of end the episode, all I could think off was how beautiful she looked in a girls school uniform. XD

Along with a first look at the ED animation, this episode was nudging 30 minutes overall. White Fox really did a solid job with the pacing and the character development for this episode. Bravo! ^_^

This is definitely the best episode of the series so far, if it isn't at least it is the best for Subaru. This is what Subaru's character really needed his backstory and why he is the way he is. Dadbaru and Momaru are best parents.

When Dadbaru said to take good care of him and Momaru when they get old and then Subaru cried i felt that, knowing he won't be able to do so. And the last interaction Subaru had with his mom is before he got Isekai'd and she told Subaru to "take care" damn right in the feels and Subaru was finally able to reply.

Echidna in a school uniform though :D

God damn the feels in this episode.

I am guessing Subaru's father was some kind of professional athlete and Subaru thought he had to meet those same expectations in life. When he realized he wasn't like his father the hard realization just brought him to reality.

Damn I felt so bad for Subaru this episode. Not only Subaru but his parents as well. We know in most other Isekai that the MC is killed when transported to the new world but all we know is that Subaru just transported to this world. So yeah What his parents are going through must be something.

God damn man the scene with his mother got me f'ed up.

His mom was so funny haha. I was dying when she said "I know your butthole" LOL

Echinida looking fine in that School Uniform.

Great emotional episode.

Seriously guys, not every people who say it's boring are asking for action. You know there are other types of story aside from fights and drama, right?.

yes but when this show goes from the torture porn or those fights (petelgeuse fight/whale fight) to some chatting or development everyone goes VROOOOOOOOM because they still wanna see death, gore, torture and so on...but this thing doesn't work on a long run because after some time will no longer be entertaining to see some meat bags dying just for the sake of it....they need development and some of them got it (more or less) but those people must understand that with violence and gore nothing can be solved in the long run. Also comedy is not the strenght point of this show but still demanding only butchering is no good for a long term
I'm mostly complaining about the people who says "you don't like character development, then go watch [insert pure fight anime name here] and go enjoy all those bloods and gore, and punching", or something like that. I find these people kind of annoying. Like for them if you don't like even just one casual discusion, or one emotion-filled scene then you're a sucker for blood and fight.

Yeah, This is why I said before that this could have been the end of the series, returning to reality and facing its problems to make sense of the Isekai world. But as always they screwed up and probably he no longer "needs" to return to the real world, because he already apologized to his parents (in a fucking illusion, to top it all off). It ends up being a complete nonsense the purpose of the episode.

Its just always nonsense and delusion when it comes to this topic for isekais. Heck, these protagonists for whatever self-insert reason never gives a shit about their previous world connections like FUCKING FAMILY/FRIENDS at the start. And when they confront it, it just comes off as inconsistent. Im looking forward to Mushoku Tensei which doesnt have this problem
