Kaisereddie said: I don't know about the "won't work" part; the Paris Commune worked well, as did Barcelona/Catalonia. The problem is not internal; it is external forces that want to subjugate you for various reasons. Anarchy works excellently for many kinds of production, though evidently it isn't good at all in war. And war is always a threat, meaning if you can't defend yourself, you don't really work that great.
Still, even if there were no external enemy, I doubt it would have managed to keep going for too long. The Paris commune worked for a while, obviously because the people who had rebelled had strong convictions and feelings of brotherhood and union in their ideals, but the larger the group and the more time goes on, chances are those feelings would dissipate, leaving room for power hungry warlords to ride in and seize control.
Without authoritative force and system, there is also the problem with the "Tragedy of the Commons", as illustrated when the USSR's crop totals went up noticeably after the farmers were allowed to keep their own fields as well. People tend to be greedy and without having rules enforced by someone, we would likely sooner return to our own devices rather than work for the benefit of the fellowship, especially when we have large group of relatively unrelated people.
Lack of legal enforcement and structure works fine for smaller tribes in the jungles and on the islnds, but the moment you try to start a big and complex society, I can't imagine you would ever succeed without a relatively authoritative system. And as for letting an AI do the work, why? After all, by the posthuman state, there would be no difference except ontogeny. Humans would all be as smart as AIs, partly being such themselves. Well, naturally, if we become posthumans ourselves there would be no need for such.RavenTheDark said: Lol I did expect that response, because it's typical. However it's not accurate. What would make you think the "Citizens" would rebel even if they knew? The people don't need to overthrow a government. There's millions of laws in the US, and only two apply to a "person" the rest apply to "citizens." Even though technically speaking only citizens that are part of the Government are legally obliged to follow those laws. Normal citizens don't need to.. Wat.
All people in a state are obviously bound by it's laws, what the hell are you smoking? The Government is legitimate as long as the tolerance threshold is not broken, that's when the people start to rebel. Obviously they won't need to overthrow the government if they do accept their legitimacy.
I have no idea about the laws of the US, or whether they use "person" or "citizen" as terms, and I don't give a damn either.
Also, what the hell is a normal citizen? The laws apply for all people in a state, as long as you live in it you can't just say you don't give a shit and break the rules as you like.Kaisereddie said: It's not as if you can watch Armageddon and then know anything at all about how a real asteroid homing in on Earth would affect us, be handled with and so on, is it? Same shit with I, Robot, Terminator, Matrix and their ilk regarding AIs. Indeed.
And with all the blathering about evil sentient AIs taking over the world, I am quite sure that any AI we do manage to produce will not turn out like that. Its not as if we want to emulate disaster movies or anything. |
