Eventually all the pieces fit. Great writing, this reminded me a lot Steins;Gate, even more than the series, especially for time rewritings and circle that open up and close up differently. Despite a little drop in terms of animation compared to the series, the visual were very good overall, while the characters were as good as usual. This arc was probably the most complex and organic, and even the most emotional, I am glad about the happy ending, it didn't took anything to the depth of the movie. 8.5-9/10.

Oh my god, I needed to read this since I read the spoilers of what happened in the LN. And thank you so much for warning the others regarding the spoiler.

Man, the fact that I know this movie's going to kill me with the feels makes me want to see it even more now! Why do I have to wait around 6 months for the BD...

Need to confirm: Did Sakura and Mai kissed? (If not, then I kinda knew it.)
In the LN, they kissed in Futaba arc. Not sure why they cut it out lol.

Came to know that in the second simulation (where Mai dies and Shota chan gets her heart) Shota and Sakuta end up married and that thought has honestly triggered me.
Man that would have been so brutal for Mai san.Phew, good job they didn't add that part in the movie.

Also,Mai san in the anime was an okayish girlfriend whenever Sakuta needed her (like Panda Kaede disappearing) but in the movie she was proper waifu material. She was there for him everytime - fever, scar wound reigniting and even sacrificing herself for his sake. The story around their relationship progressed a lot in this movie

I love it, but seriously his actions PISSED me off so bad. Like during the season he was one of my favorite Male MCs in all of Anime. He's not a pussy, or a Beta Male, he's not afraid of women or holding hands, or expressing his feelings, and he's not a pervert who sprays blood. But on the day that he's supposed to get hit by a car he goes RUNNING through traffic in the snow and his actions led to Mai dying. It's just as pissed at a MC I was when Subaru exaggerated his Insanity (I know he was messed up but he was playing it up when he DEF could have done something, and it caused Rems BRUTAL death). Like bro, I know you love this girl and she saved you, but if you think about it objectively she won't definitely die if you avoid the accident but if you get hit you'll DEFINITELY die. You'll leave Mai behind, and your sister who only just came back to normal will probably or potentially at least be broken at the lose of her brother and go back into despair and be broken again. Mai loves you, and needs you and was BEGGING you to choose a life with her, your sister needs you, and the girl who's supposed to get your heart is doing EVERYTHING she can to keep you alive. And you are going to be a dumb MF? Like there's doing something selfless and being a good guy and then there's being an idiot and throwing your life away. If there was zero chance she'd live then maybe, of it was Mai or Kaide then I could see it more. But a girl who you knew for a few months over your sister? Over the woman you love more than anything in the world? He's lucky he got a reset otherwise his actions causing her death would have stuck and I would have hated this MC forever for this action.

idk if i left a comment here before, but, the thing is I rewatched it not that long ago, and i was disapointed that my itch about this movie wasn't wrong, idk if you would call it a gary stu or whatever the term is, but my man just pulls something out of his ass that doesn't even make sense with the established things to literally undo everything and somehow now Shoko is alive because xd, they should have eneded it on him getting Mai back and accepting he can't solve everything, but my man just fixes everything and gets his mentally challenged sister that he cried for losing and everything ends happy for ever.

Well that last thing might just be the same in this case but they just didn't show it this time but still, it feels like the movie flows the right way and then it just abruptly solves everything in 5 mins :)

Finally got around to watch this.

I want to call this ending an ass-pull but honestly can't, because if it didn't have a happy end I would've hated it SO much.

This movie is on par with Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, I'd say.

ok so how the hell Shouko managed to survive if no one sacrificed their heart?
if she actually could solved herself, then what's all of the trouble for??

Dogshit film. An affront to actual art and writing alike. Looks so bad considering it's feature length & the plot is convoluted af with trash melodrama.

WAIT THAT ENDING!! So Shouko is still alive???? But how, what did she do to overcome her illness. The only difference that we were shown was how she knew what to say in her homework, that's it. MAYBE, thanks to Sakuta, in her homework, she said how she wants to live on and more people knew about her condition which eventually led to a donor so she was saved, that's the only reason I can think of, but it doesn't matter because SHOUKO IS ALIVE! AND THEY BOTH REMEMBER EACH OTHER! It is a very convenient ending, making it feel like the perfect ending, but I don't mind it.

A big question that I still have was about Sakuta's puberty syndrome. If Shouko reset the timeline and made it so she can live and not meet with Sakuta, who was there to help him get through his problem with Kaede. Sakuta's puberty syndrome had nothing to do with Shouko, but she was the reason he got over it.

Mai's death was honestly horrifying, I actually thought it's permanent since I couldn't think of a way to save her, but it seems like Sakuta somehow went to the future, which was very confusing.

I never hated Shouko for doing all those things, like saying how she likes Sakuta. Quite the opposite, I loved how open she was, but I guess now Sakuta and Shouko aren't a thing anymore.

It was a great movie, had its sad moments which made me tear up a little, but it wasn't enough to make me cry myself to bed. Shouko's arc was interesting, a little bit rushed, but it still presented the important parts. I'll always love the first time Sakuta and Shouko met and how much Shouko helped him, that will always be one of the best moments in this show.

I had to read an explanation about the ending 'cause I didn't get how Shouko was still alive. It was a good movie, but I didn't like that happy ending, it feels forced, tbh.

Finished both the eps and movie in 3 days. I've always heard about the show and how depressing and sad it was. After ignoring it for god knows how long, i started the show this month and i throughly enjoy the experience. Might be a hot take but me personally i prefer Shoko to be with Sakuta then Mai but i don't mind them being together and still happy he got to be with Mai... In therms of my fav girl doe... RIO FUTABA all the way!

And for me MOVIE > Episodes

Just finished re-watching the series and the movie with a friend, first time rewatching the movie since I saw it in theatres. Really love this series, loved it now even more than the first time I watched it. What a beautiful roller coaster of emotions, twists, and turns. Easy 9/10 series and 10/10 movie.

Four years back Bunny Girl Senpai made me realize that Slice of life anime can be entertaining so it's surprising that I didn't enjoy this movie - seems like I'm in the minority though.

Perhaps I've become more apathetic because the emotional aspects felt disingenuous for the most part - Mai getting killed was surprising though.
My favorite part of the anime was the banter which was lacking here, instead there was too much focus on a convoluted time travel plot. The animation was subpar for a movie.

5/10 - still hope we get a second season some day and that it returns to the roots of what made me enjoy the anime

This movie was definitely way better than the anime I'd say, and Mai's sacrifice was absolutely devastating. That whole section of the movie had me feeling sad for Sakuta(didn't think would happen), and the Shoko situation was handled better in this movie for sure. A 9/10 bc no cry ig, the movie was amazing top 10 :)

This was a very nice movie, even if it involved time-travel-reset

The movie though still suffers from the negative of the TV anime = the feel/pacing can be rather slow. Meaning, this movie of one-hour-and-30-minutes felt like I was sitting down for 4 hours. Given, it was not boring at all.

I noticed that there are two movie sequels, which I have no idea why, since the story seems complete at this point after this movie. Off to see the other movies then.

So in the end Shoko overcame her illness by writing stuff on her homework paper, cause I’m assuming the heart disease and her puberty syndrome were interconnected.

Better than tv series

I was thinking the same for the whole later half of the movie. This honestly ruined it for me. I can cry easily when watching emotional movies, but this one made me angry. The plot was too convoluted, Sakuta was acting unusually dumb, I couldn't grow attatched to Shouko and everything felt overly melodramatic. It was still nice to see the rest of the characters interact with each other.

I'm surprised this movie disappointed me, I didn't have high expectations going in but I really liked the series. I watched it right after finishing the series so maybe I couldn't help but compare this arc to the other ones, which I liked a lot more.

What a fantastic movie!
Too many mixed emotions in just 90 minutes --> I went from laughing to depressed to crying to anxious and finally happy at the end :')

So... then it ends with some mix of Butterfly Effect's "go back to the very start to fix it" and Steins;Gate's "No matter which worldline i'll always love you" ". I mean, we could even add some Card Captor Sakura's "Even if I lose this feeling, I'm sure that I'll just fall in love with you all over again" in there. The problem is, the movie never really makes up it's mind. It feels like the plot wanted us to feel everything at once, to live all those options, which... well it started becoming a little too much to be honest. In my opnion it should have selected maybe two ways of ending it, and had the courage to finish it like that.

All the back and forth start getting confusing and kills most of the emotions we felt just 5 minutes ago. Also, you must not ask many questions while watching, because things start making no sense really quickly. Anyway, if they created a whole set up for a bittersweet ending, they should have finished when it was bittersweet. They gave us emotions but then denied us those same emotions so many times that by the end I just wanted it all to be over without another "but i want to save her who saved me who saved her who saved me".

Lastly, I still don't know how Shouko was just having fun at the beach, is she still sick? If yes, erasing everyone's memory accomplished nothing because she's still sick and about to die soon. If no, then how the heck did she cure herself? Also why didn't she do it from the start?  Is she only changing her ways to be more grateful instead of sorry in order to make her parents happy? Then that means she is ok with her impeding death? But wouldn't Sakuta regaining his memories just trigger his will to save her all over again? There is just too many questions. I am not against a happy ending, I am just not a fan of a bunch of endings, questionable character's decisions and seemingly writer's indecisions.
