"I'm sorry. I can't keep watching this. The premise and story all seem great, but there's just one thing that ticks me off. Seriously. It just bugs me so much. The coach is an abusive bully who hurts and molests children. They have smartphones. He doesn't seem very smart as he openly talks about the things he does to his victims. This could ALL be solved and handled with a simple recording. They have smart phones. You can record audio or video on a smart phone. You can use that as proof. Give it to the principal, to one of the parents, or even the police. Make this into an entire thing. REPORT him. It's not realistic to me. If there was one guy bullying more than a dozen children then the children would easily be able to win. It's their word versus his. It's like 15 people vs one person. What do they literally have to lose?

I know it's fictional, but this could be solved so easily and it just ticks me off."

Is what I would have said if I stopped watching before they went back into the palace.

It's a bit unconventional, but I do like the idea of taking away his deepest desires so he could go kill himself or rat on himself a bit better than a realistic take-you-to-court strategy.

It isn't that well explained in the anime, but in the game, it's said that the parents and the school turn a blind eye to Kamoshida's actions due to the glory he's brought the school's sports teams (the female and the male volleyball teams supposedly doing pretty well) and the recognition he brings the school as a former gold medal olympian, so they wouldn't risk firing or standing up to him in order to sacrifice the money and recognition they get. Again, the anime doesn't explain it very well. the parents and the principal know about his physical abuse in the very least, but they won't say anything.

I still can't get used to the pacing.
I mean, I understand why they're doing it but from someone who has played the game, it just feels like some scenes is missing some important dialogue.

Other than that, Ann's episode is pretty good for how much they've crammed into it.
The art style is getting better too. I haven't seen much inconsistent frames as the first 2 episodes did.

All-out attacks are still lame though. I hope it gets improved on like what they're doing for the opening theme.

Ah, yeah, that does make some sense. I do think they touched on that a bit in the first episode, and I just forgot about it. I did think they there was a possibility that the teachers were in on it, but didn't want to say anything as well. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Watching Shiho jump again was really sad, but it seemed much more impactful in the game than in the anime, it went pretty fast.

It's good that it's following the game closely, but it feels weird not seeing them fight very much due to that, I keep expecting battles, but they only seem to fight when its necessary.

Everyone has the "potential" to awaken a Persona. You just gotta meet certain conditions to awaken them, like being inside the "magical world" for starters.

The conditions are different every game as the "magical worlds" are kinda different too.

Here, the condition is to rebel against whatever in life has a hold on you, both on a real and mental sense.

Thx for the explanation. Well if that's the case it's not that bad otherwise everyone who randomly stumbles inside that thing having magic powers would just be stupid. Are the other season worth watching for me maybe then I ll understand more about this world.

he’s got a lot of power basically so yeah no one wants to challenge him
japanese society especially has a problem with “saving face”. so to scandalize his actions would bring the school mass negative press, which would ultimately be disruptive to the Japanese “shame culture”, and result in negative thoughts towards both the parents + school which is something that Japanese culture always tries to avoid. to some extent I think certain aspects of western culture reinforce the “don’t ask don’t tell” kind of aspect found in japan as well, esp when it comes to covering up potential scandals to “save face”, certain more conservative aspects of western society reinforce that too. I think that is what makes the statement of what’s happening in the kamoshida situation all the more powerful, he very well could be a real person who’s abusing his power. And I certainly wouldn’t call him super blatant, either. Sure, he is openly arrogant and pompous, but you don’t see him blurting or admitting that he beats or assaults his students beyond some forceful dragging of them. He’s pretty scary when he wants to be and he makes it known that he doesn’t want to be trifled with without being apparently explicit enough to warrant actual concern from other “adults”, because again, he also makes it evident that his ego brings the school enough success to warrant them recognition, which is damn manipulative, if you ask me. He’s kinda intimidating and it’s really part of what makes him a less cartoonish and more convincing villain, esp in the game

It was just.. okay, tbh.. it felt kind of bland tbh.. I remembered shedding a tear when Shiho jumped off the roof in the game but the anime? Err yeah not so much.

The pacing is still pretty fast and it's just a turn off. I mean, even Ann's speech was pretty lackluster.. no buildup whatsoever. Haiiizzz

I hope it would be better in the next episode.. I can't take anything seriously here.. seriously.

Poor Shiho. Just like in the game, seeing her jump off the roof like that is depressing D=

It's all the more reason to take down Kamoshida and his palace though. Interestingly, the anime secured the infiltration route before rescuing Ann, whereas the game has you save Ann long before securing the route to the treasure room. Nothing wrong with that though, but it was an interesting choice though.

Ann's persona awakening looked pretty good and the animation for the fight and the all-out attack is getting better. Not as good as I want it to be, but any improvement is a welcome one. =)

Morgana's reactions to being called a cat always makes me laugh. He gets angry when Ryuji calls him a cat, but when Ann did the same, he looked heartbroken. XD

Either way, this was still a pretty good episode. I'm predicting the next episode should wrap up the Kamoshida arc if the pacing is good enough.

I mean, so far they need a better presentation for the storytelling imo.

The adaptation is pretty good, despite cutting the dungeon crawler as expected.

They are covering the content just fine at a very acceptable pacing, but they are not covering it in a particularly impactful way. It's just... good, when it could be great.

About the comments on Tokyo Ghoul Re:'s adaptation above, that one is the polar opposite. What it has in good presentation (can't say the same about the execution), it lacks completely in adaptation (it's one of those things I would consider just terrible as an adaptation since season 1, and they don't do justice even then; after all, we do have good things terribly adapted here and there, and that's not one of them: It's an incoherent mess of a spin on the source material).

Persona 5 is adaptating well everything that is major in importance, and some of the minor character related stuff and moments. It just lacks quite a bit in presenting said good adaptation in a bombastically "hype" way like the game did so well in every single minute of gameplay.

It lacks polishing, even the All-Out-Attacks look just bland compared to the awesome moment of awesome they are in the end of every single battle with them in the game.

To quote myself from the "No Style" thread:

Not quite without any style, it's just that the game looks that gorgeous all the way with its cellshading greatness.

The quality thus far is very on pair with the quality we got in the in-game animated sequences, it's just that the whole artistic choice for the game doesn't really work too well in 2D, even in the game's cutscenes, compared to what we get outside them.

To be honest, like this is pretty good already, it's just lacking some polishing, much like when Persona 4 the animation came out... and also some extra minutes for this first episode, as the transition by the end felt a bit rushed.

But again, the BD for Persona 4 fixed both of these problems also present in that adaptation (director's cut EP1 AND quite some beautiful final touches to the animation overall), maybe it will be the same here.

So far, it's just a nice adaptation of the content in hands, but nowhere near as well presented as the game. This anime should have been done in a different style from the ones in the in-game cutscenes imo, this is one of those few times were I would say the art could impact the delivery even if the majority of the content (except the grind and RPG gameplay cofcof) is in there.

Good episode yet again, but could have been great.

I didn't expect them to spend hours dungeon crawling. The plot outside of the dungeon is even more rushed.

They already took some liberties to make some change, and I hope they keep changing some stuff. If they try to condense directly from the game, it's going to turn out pretty miserable. If they retell the story, but adapted for a new media (anime), then they will have a decent chance.

I did like it when they took liberties to make some changes --- such as meeting Morgana later on, etc.

This game still is some 60-70 hours long without those. it's the longest game of a franchise full of long ass games lol

Still, it can be condensed quite a bit in terms of daily things and all that. The thing that actually goes beyond SLs and Dungeons in terms of gameplay longetivity is the whole year structure of the game, and luckily it's also the easiest part to trim for an anime adaptation.

I still have yet to be impressed by this series. I still hold to the fact that the best part about it was making me want to play the game again, (which I have been binging for the past week again). There's no comparison, the game is still a tighter overall experience and the anime rushes things wayyy too much still. There's still no reason to watch this over playing the game, and the problem is i wish it would take more liberties than just be a highlight reel of the main plot, and i think it being too faithful will make the overall experience suffer a bit, and that''s a shame.

What the fuck? They just skipped the whole palace exploring bit AND made the boys save Anne after having secured the treasure. Of course I didn't expect them to adapt hours of dungeon crawling but there was no reason for them to change the timeline in this case, they just made Anne look useless.

On the positive side, hooray for the weekly dose of Pancake boy @nicethings @Swagernator ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and the Persona 2 reference:

The plot probably looks confusing to non gamers since the scenes look disjointed. Suddenly asking around for student testimonies and getting to the treasure location, then Ann's persona awakens. The battles escalated too quickly. As usual, the AOA was cringy af. If my memory serves, there's no AOA sequence in P3 and P4 anime and now I start to understand why. XD

After 3 episodes this is turning out sort of how I expected. Rapid pacing, skipping some bits a bit like P4A. It doesn't appear to be a funny as P4A though and the animation itself is kind of disappointing. It's still enjoyable to watch though just because in a way I feel like I'm reliving the experience of a game that I loved. Although, if I had no knowledge of the series and if I hadn't played P5 I'd probably think this was just a mess.

I love the visuals and the story for Persona 5, but I feel like the anime is making the fight scenes not as dramatic as they could be. The music is brilliant, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't flow very well with those particular scenes. Maybe it'll improve as the anime progresses.

But Ann's Awakening was pretty damn cool.

Oh the hours spent wandering around the Kamoshida castle on my first run.... all that and we secured the infiltration route after a few scenes. This was exactly how I'd thought the anime would adapt the dungeon aspect of Persona 5, but damn it feels so weird to see considering I took so long.

The battle sequences feels off. It's got little to no actual action to it, most of the characters are kinda static and you can almost see the turn-based from the action. Sure, the game was kinda like that too, but I think in the game the more exaggerated sounds (like a loud hitting sound when using physical attack, burning sounds when using a fire move etc.) and sharp contrasting visual effects when attacking/attacked negated a lot of that.

The all-out attack yet again was kinda underwhelming. As I've said before, not just compared to the game, but it's just bad animation. The animation didn't transition into the final pose, it's not just that it's not smooth either, it's completely detached as though someone cut out a portion of it out. Also there's a pretty awkward silence at the final pose, I'd think this should be where the the volume is loudest.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.
