Amazing production, music and animations really made it worth watching. I disliked the plot got lost in the crossroads and didn't know where to go. This hurt the anime leaving me with cliche feelings and a less of an inpact in my memory. Despite this i loves the music and animations and the inital plota path, i gave it a solid 8

The cherry blossom motifs throughout the series always hinted at Kaori leaving us, but it was still sad. I admit my eyes got a bit watery as Kousei read her letter. I was totally thrown off by the lie and by the fact that apparently Kaori met Kousei when they were younger. I'm glad she decided to live the last year of her life openly and how she wanted, it's too bad she couldn't have been more honest though (Kousei was constantly holding back because of the brocode, hah).

I liked the dream sequence performance with Kousei and Kaori, I guess he "felt" her when she died... beautiful last performance.

I wish we had seen a little more of what happened to everyone-- what high schools they go to, what careers they choose, etc.

Tsubaki's friend Kashiwagi is probably the most underrated and mature character, I love that they revealed all her advice to be from BL manga at the very end there, haha.

Overall good show, it had it's slow moments but had a lot of beautiful moments as well. It was really hyped to me but having seen a lot of similar "sick beautiful girl" anime and jdrama I put it off for a long time. I'm glad I watched it but I do find myself wondering what the main message of the story was. I guess love your loved ones while you can? Enjoy life while you can?

Then it became a melodramatic love triangle romance of middle schoolers who acted like adults. It was weird and off putting.

I have to agree with this. The casualness of Watari & Kaori's "dating" seemed accurate for middle school, but overall I think the love triangle would have been more realistic and emotional if they were at least college aged.

I'm so glad that i saw this anime, when he was reading her letter i was crying so hard, it was such painful for him to read this i literally couldn't stop crying. It will be first spring without Kaori for Kousei and his friends. Best anime for me, first anime that made me cry so hard.

I don't have any big problems with the characters, although I don't like love triangles, people who don't realize they're in love with someone until it's way too late and especially girls being unfair to guys.

The worst part for me, was Kaori's death, because I expected a miracle or some sort of happy ending. I didn't even realize she was dead until the letter was being read, I just kept thinking "What?? What's going on?".

It was a good anime and I was kind of hooked but I wish it were a happy ending. I hate hate hate sad endings.

I am straight salty about the ending. It could have been better if Kaori and Kousei had their final moments together. I Sensed that there were too much things left unsaid and it was very unfair for Kousei to be haunted by that taught.

I think the beautiful part and also the tragic part with Tsubaki was that she realised that the problem was deeper then just Kousei being in love with Kaori. This adds to another great part with the anime. It is about Kousei's journey and where it will take him. If they do a sequel with the high school years it would be great. Revolving around themes like: musicians finding themselves, meeting other muscians and meeting each other as persons too. Some teacher that would influence Kousei. Emi and Aiza going to the same school and being rivals/friends.
The best part would be that Kousei would do something logical and realistic, he would move. Tusbaki and Watari would probably appear in a sequel but in much smaller parts. I can see an arc with Tsubaki crashing his normal life and bringing with her a lot of unresolved romantic plots. Because the simple truth is that where Kousei will go Tsubaki can't follow. It's cruel and it's beautiful. Tsubaki knows this and desperatly tries to counter it but she can't. Life is setting them on different paths.

Sooner or later Kousei would be ready to move on with his heart and it would probably be someone who can share some part, or maybe the whole, of the journey he has ahead of him. A fellow musician seems very likely. Emi or Nagi, who knows. Some new girl seems more probable.

That was a good anime. Though I've never been interested in classical music, it was really enthralling to watch all those guys playing piano and Kaori playing the violin.
I'm really sad about how it ended though. Poor Kaori-chan ;( And I feel so sorry for Kousei. To lose a girl he loved and learn that she loved him too only after she died? Geez, I don't know how would I cope with it...

Anyway, that Kaori that showed up and started playing the violin during Arima's performance, was it just his imagination or a ghost?

Great show. I love a sad yet beautiful story. Wasn't expecting the letter, great to see some of Kaori's back story in the last ep. So sad that they never told each other how they felt face to face and no kiss :( He should have confessed his feelings darn it. Poor kid has been through a lot. He'll probably go on to do great things in the piano world after all which is great. I wonder if Kousei would end up with Tsubaki in the future. Not sure how I feel about that.

I went in to this expecting a romantic drama focused around beautiful music. The whole Kaori being sick and dying really gave the show an extra element. Good use of comedy, some may say over done but I thought it was fine. Wonderful art and exquisite soundtrack. Lots of great quotes too! I found it refreshing and quite beautiful 9/10.

Logged in and updated my anime list after 4 years just for this. It's been a while since i've watched an anime this good. Although it might've felt weird at first with with middle schoolers going through this kind of drama and weird timelines (how could they grow so much in two years), well if you just assume they're bigger it makes it okay.

After watching the last episode I kind of felt overwhelmed, it has been a really really long time anything has ever made me feel this way especially romance drama which I'm usually not a fan of.

I still can't get over thinking about it, midway through the episode I just kept thinking if how i did not want this to end. I would've loved more episodes showcasing development, slice of life and slower pace before Kaori got hospitalized. Everything felt kind of rushed or skimmed at times. Something I got pissed off about was how Kousei rarely spent time with Kaori when she was hospitalized, Wataris should've just left them two alone.

Contrary to the others I liked the bittersweet ending. Even though they never confessed directly to each other I think that their actions, music and other signs like Kousei saying he wants to see her on the phone is enough. The letter confession just reinforced what they already felt about each other.

10/10 - One of my favorites

I was touched by this show...
I didn't want Kaori to die.. man it hurts so much...
I hadn't watched such a hat touching anime in a long time...
I hope OVA is an alternate ending...
I haven't been able to sleep properly... the last part makes me cry anytime by remembering it...
I haven't been able to focus on exams and other anime...

Maybe it was the ghost saying goodbye to him... as he too says goodbye to that thing
Maybe he understood it was the ghost and that Kaori died

Although the letter gives us the reason behind the title (which I've been wondering for a while now) I still was disappointed by the revelation of the "lie". I liked it better when it seemed Kao was at least ambivalent about Watari and Kousei, it made the show a little bit more complex and real. Still a very good ending though.

It is a beautiful anime, but it had flaws, like how the comedy felt too forced, and how they focused on side characters in some episodes and ignoring them afterwards. I can give you more reasons, if you want.

It wasn't horrible, but it doesn't deserve a 10/10 imho. I don't know why you're so bothered by this. It's a 7/10 for me, but it's a 10/10 for you. It all depends on how the person sees the anime :)

This series was fantastic. Beautiful to watch.

Everything they did do was extremely well done in this finale. But there were a couple of easily avoidable things that prevented it from touching me as much as it could have.

First, they failed to deliver in her final moments. Her vanishing in Kousei's mind doesn't ensure the viewer that she has passed away in any way whatsoever. The idea would have been a touch of genius as long as there was no room for asking yourself whether or not she actually died. It's not uncommon for character's to survive when the shows waits until the last minute to make his/her death unquestionable, so it's not a matter of overthinking. Failing to make that clear when your goal is to touch people about a character's death is a huge deal for those who won't buy into it right away.

They could have shown the moment she dies during the song (maybe before she begins to vanish) or at the very least implied that by showing her vitals clearly take a turn for the worse before she vanishes altogether. But instead of making it clear during the climax, the confirmation only comes afterwards in a brief cemetery scene, which isn't powerful at all.

The other decision I wasn't a big fan of is the confession after death. The execution with the letter was beautiful (confession included), but they really should have had a special moment together before she died. The show could have revealed her secrets on that letter, no problem... but then showed a face-to-face confession from the night before... that kind of scene should have actually taken place while she was still alive.

Aside from that, the songs were a bit too long at times in the series imo, but I can easily overlook that. I just find it kind of painful that I wasn't giving a proper moment to mourn her death because of small issues like that. As well as not having been ever shown them share their feelings while they still could have, even if just once. It hurts.
(I really thought this was going to be one of my few 10s, but oh well t.t)

I didn't find the series "melodramatic" at all. I found it very real, because... some details of it ring a little too true to the realities I have experienced/am experiencing.

Okay so
some weeaboos try to learn Japanese from anime

me, an intellectual: I'm trying to learn piano from this lmao

No but seriously, I may be very many years late (considering this mans started when he was still in diapers) but I really want to play the piano now.

I started watching this show as a meme because someone I know watches it and I thought it was silly. I told myself I'd never watch slice of life anime because I thought it was stupid, but hell I actually loved this. Sure, it has some flaws like that first OP... weird shit, and the fact that they're supposed to be 14 yet every character has intense monologues every 3 seconds. I think they were actually meant to be older but they said they were 14 to excite some of the weirdos who watch this show. Just kidding, this show was actually a lot better than I expected and I don't regret watching it. I went from wanting to watch it to roast someone I know who gave it a 10 to giving it a good rating myself.

A really good episode and ending, even if it was predictable (from the very beginning, they could have been more sutble with all their deathflags), Kousei performance and his mental projection of him playing with Kaori were beautiful, and the letter was really bittersweet.
Still, I feel like the show (and maybe the manga as it is a faithful adaptation) could have been much better, and suffered from a poor pace near the episodes 13 to 18/19 or something like that. The first part was really great and touching, when it was focused on the music, the competitions, the cool characters and how they felt about music. I think that the episode in which Kousei got over his trauma and finally accepted his mother's death was the peak of the show, and it's my favorite. Some say that they could have ended the show right here, but I think that what happened next gave Kousei even more strength, the problem is that it was not well handled, and I can agree with them when they say that it has been dragged on for way too long.
The problem is that after that, it went downhill when the drama was all over the place, the introduction of an annoying character way too late for me to actually care about her (Nagi), and having 3 or 4 episodes centered about her and her relation to Kousei/Her brother. I Get that it was needed for the evolution and growth of Arima, but still, it could have been handled much better.

The comedy parts were also way more annoying in the second part when the show took the melodrama route, as it was often out of context, badly handled, felt forced and was not even funny, ruining cool scene for no reason (plus I just hate the "Chibi" design, it was also a pain to watch it in FMA:B)

I was glad to see that the 3 last episodes went back to what made me like the show in the first place : The music, the competition, the trio, Arima's rival and Kaori, it was a relief and made me care for the show after 4 boring episodes, but the bad part really hurt the show.
As for the drama, it was cool in the first part (again) because it was more subtle, but after it became so boring. Every little action seemed to trigger a monologue AND a flashback, again and again and again, the character always had to fill cool scenes with unnecessary words and kind of pretentious sentences, it became old really quickly.

I would like to give it a 8/10, but objectively, with all the bad things about the anime, I think that a 7/10 might be more suitable, there's a lot of wasted potential with it...

It's not that I burst out of tears in this episode or the one before as everyone mention. I cried already at how moving and uplifting this anime is specially the first arc and the following very few episodes then it lagged a bit but awakened again at the end. The Romance here is so unique and without a single cliche. Till now I'm trying to convince myself that Kaori didn't die. Although the end is happy but still leaves you empty inside. Still it can't be any better ending. Very solid anime!

The ending was savage. It was expected due to several major hints towards negative outcome.

Still, even knowing that it still leaves you heartbroken and empty. Yet fulfilled by emotional roller coaster throughout the series itself.

Is it as savage as C:AS? I would say no, because it is much more savage than After story due to Kao-chans demise unlike the alternative reality scenario in After story.

Although "Your Lie in April" is making you more resilient to real life issues and overall negativity which you encounter in your daily routine - it leaves you heartbroken in the end. But, as is one of the main premises in this masterpiece - you need "to run" (move on/live on), carving your own life with your own power and soul.

Am I the only one who wished Kaori hadnt known Arima as a child? I mean, it feels like literally everyone in the show met Arima as a kid and was influenced by him. By the time Kaori told her backstory, I felt it was so played out. I kind of wish Kaori had just been inspired on her own, by you know, her terminal illness or something.

I started this anime a year ago with my friends but never got round to finishing it with them... now I understand why; the universe was trying to stop me from breaking down in front of them. That was sad, and a tissue has now gone to waste thanks to it. I'm glad Kousei finally got his "I love you", but I wish it wasn't so bittersweet. I guess that adds to the whole impact of Kaori's death, and was a damn good pull on the heartstrings. Still, this anime had beautiful art, good plot and an emotional end; 9/10.

Overall it was great but the ending was just a bit too predictable to hit me as hard as it should have or how it was presented. It was clear what they was going to do with the character of Kaori. Its bittersweet and ethereal which is the point in a medium like anime but the just layed it on too thick each time she was on screen. I felt she spoke to Arima in a way that was just a bit too much out there. As if she knew she was fixing him step by step and setting up elaborate scenarios to grow him as a person in.

She really became this sightseer into the future rather then a girl going through such a terrible experience. I wont go as far as to say shes a bad character but I would have like to have seen her receive more from Arima as a person rather then just being happy everytime he took a step forward. She just seemed far more like a tool for Arimas development then an honest character. Despite this it still manages to be a stunner, thats just my nitpicky review if anyone asked if I would recommend this I would in a heartbeat.

Overall, a good watch definitely. I enjoyed the music aspect of the show more than the romance part, coz lets be honest, they failed to make any romance part satisfactory at all.
No confession from Kousei's side till the end directly towards Kaori.
No make out session (I was expecting that on the rooftop, and would've been a good addition)
And a bit too sad and predictable with her death being foreshadowed since episode 4.

Definitely overrated though, seeing this the current top 20th anime. I'd give it an 8/10 overall. Definitely a good anime though.

I'm still not sure how to feel about this anime. The melodrama was to the point that it was super cringe worthy and made it difficult to watch at times. Some of the characters were extremely underdeveloped. The plot and ending was predictable. You would think a anime like this shouldn't be rated over a 5 and yet...

There was sort of a special feel to it. It may have been the music which is by the far the anime's biggest strength. It may have been the few well executed emotional scenes that really made you sympathize with the main characters. Truth be told, I don't know what it is. But even though I saw the ending coming from a mile away, I was still genuinely saddened by it. I guess if I was to spin a analogy on it, this anime was just like the characters, kids who find themselves dealing with an adult situation. Things were not always handled well, a lot of time it was sloppy, but it still managed to push through and make something of itself. And I guess there is a certain beauty to that.

I give it a 8/10.
