I think him constantly walking and not telling anyone how he was feeling resulted in his death, among other issues.

Yuuki’s death hit me hard, that created a lot of impact for me. He was my favorite character from episode 1; he was such a sweet little boy, always looking forward and trying to be cheerful when his sister wasn’t just made this anime worth it to watch. Even though he acted like a child in many instances, he sometimes acted like the older sibling. I should have known from the first few episodes that he dies later on because an innocent and pure character like him would never live that long.

The thought slowly crept up to me after seeing the backpack twice and Mari asking, “Together?”, when Mirai left the hospital. But even before that, I saw the last episode title called “Dear Yuuki”...

This episode was so unnecessary.. As if we didn't notice he was already dead in the previous two episodes..
Why stretch it out for no reason.

Same here, too obvious so it was pretty boring.

So Yuuki suffered crush syndrome.
Without proper medical treatment, he was destined to die since episode 1 when he got trapped in the convenience store.
And also the head concussion at the Tokyo Tower. Man, poor Yuuki even walked long distances in those conditions +heat/rain.

Very sad episode... so he really was dead, the shock was so violent that she did not admit that his dead and continued to see him even if he was dead.

Bruh Mirai forgot the backpack to Mari in the last episode. So when I noticed the same backpack on Yuuki's back that immediately screamed a big redflag. Bruh
But I didn't actually think they'd kill of Yuuki like that. This anime can scare you with red herrings but then say it's alright near the end and this was the opposite.
I saw this anime as more of an optimistic tale taking place post-crisis. That if you held positivity it'll all be alright near the end.
Guess this episode breaks it down well that too much positivity in time of disaster can lead to more misery later on.

But yeah, the "ghosting" of Yuuki near the end could've been handled a lot better. It became too obvious before Yuuki "himself" said that he was dead.

SON. OF. A. BITCH.

Damn, I feel like an idiot for not picking up the obvious signs that almost everyone else did. When I watched Ep 8, I kept thinking how annoying it is that they kept "faking out" Yuuki's death and then it turns out they weren't faking his death....

RIP Yuuki, a bright spot in this show.

Never knew about Crush syndrome, what a tragic way to go. You thank your lucky stars you've been rescued and then bam!, you're gone.

Wikipedia:

Without proper preparation, the patient, with pain control, may be cheerful before recovery, but die shortly thereafter. This sudden failure is called the "smiling death".

Yuuki to a T :'(

It was so heavily foreshadowed that Yuuki was dead, but simultaneously it didn't seem to be the case. I feel like I only truly realized when he was running around in the park and disappeared, then remembered why Mari seem so depressed earlier.
Pretend there's something flashy and cool here.

You're bombarded with hints Yuuki died, so no surprise there. But Mirai waking up from her delusion still has some mystique to it.

I never saw the Sixth Sense angle coming.. I was ready to go back to the start and rewatch some critical moments, like when Mari and Mirai first found Yuki in that Mall.

Was he dead all along and Mari played along after Mirai snapped? Was that why she was so helpful? There's no way, I thought, since multiple people interacted with Yuuki; if that was the case then we were shown most of the story and character interactions via Mirai's snapped / hallucinating POV, rendering her the No 1 Unreliable Narrator of all time.

But no, it turned out Yuuki died from that heatstroke(?), and that's when Mirai's mind snapped. What we thought was a nightmare of Yuuki's death were actual memories, which Mirai suppressed to cope with his death, and replaced the harrowing reality with one where her brother survived. Mari only started playeing along after that point. That's when she started hesitating to help them. I though she finally wanted to prioritize her family, but she simply didn't have the heart to tell Mirai the truth.

What a tragic death... Imagine surviving a big-ass Mall falling on you and then dying from exhaustion and heatstroke 🥹
