So the parents were planning to kill themselves plus their child?? Wonder what really made them change their mind??

They changed their mind when the thief took their daughter and put her close to death; at this moment, the parents think in the Sia's future that could be destroyed by the thief.

This is about as much of a "one step forward one step back" anime I've seen. For every good thing I can say about the characters, drama, and themes, there's a bad thing I can say about them too. I hope episodes with the quality of episode 2 are in more abundance. That was measured in its theme exploration and was effectively dramatic at the end. This episode was pretty ridiculous in its drama and topic even though I liked Sia and episodes 1 and 3 (but moreso 3) were scattered and too preachy.

Don't know why everyone hates this episode. This was what essentially got me hooked on my first watch of planetes as a show. I do find the conflict a bit to quick to be resolved. Would be nice if we got more info on who drove this family to attempt suicide. As for the dialogue being "cheesy" is a severe misunderstanding of what this episode was trying to convey.

Both of these parties got in to this conflict because of circumstances not directly of their own fault but their environment (the guy becoming a thief because his family burdened him with their expectations and the girl being almost dragged to her grave because she was born in to a family with debt issues)

The parents of the kid acted more and less as loving and understanding parents to the circumstances of the thief (which is something he lacked at home) and the role of the thief was him telling the kid parents what he never could have told his own parents(ie that they couldn't burden her with not viable expectations and that she has a life of her own she and she only can choose how to life it, which they ignored it up until they were told it straight to their face).

It certainly did a good job in conveying the message too me. Hope that this post can help others in understanding it too :)

Awesome episode, definitely the best so far, I really felt bad for that family but I guess it's a happy end for them, at least that robber did a good thing with stealing the pills

A fine episode overall with a happy ending, but it also felt a bit cluttered for me with a lot of things happening at once. The highlight for me was Hachimaki bonding with the young girl and making the 'promise' for her to become his first pilot when he owns his very own spaceship someday. That was a sweet moment. Hachimaki with the kick early on in the episode when he thought sexual assault was happening instead of filming for a shitty ass movie with no budget, and him holding down the thief did earn some good points from me. Pretty reserved episode when it comes to the actual main characters this time.

This episode felt really preachy, too appealing and cliche. Very unpolished and problems floating all around. The ost usage feels very uninspired.
Nice to see a bit more of Hoshino's personality but felt a little bland when he acted on the thief, such a hero oh boy.

This episode featured two of my favorite tropes, Percussive Pickpocket and You just ruined the shot. And lol, that wannabe director was quite the opportunist.

Production was on the low side, but for what it's worth, it was a hilariously messy episode.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

"Highly rated hard sci-fi about space"...I feel conned at this point. Although I couldn't stop laughing when the mom yelled at the kid to take the meds, "I said take it, so take it!"

Hmm this episode was pretty boring and doesn’t suit the anime it feels like a filler even with an anime that has different story in each episode
