This was a bad episode. It wasn't a boring episode -- it maintained just enough interest-potential that it made you think something interesting would be revealed, but never actually did so. It was a complete waste of airtime.

Ok, Reiner is nuts, but we already knew that. Having some connection to Marco is possibly interesting (maybe he was also a shifter in Reiner's team, probably the leader, and that's why the attack aborted all those years ago? That's the closest thing to interesting in the episode, but it's a two-second scene and it's all very vague so perhaps I'm just readng too much into it).

Eren actually showed some restraint and didn't go charging in without thinking about anything, which was a nice change (although I can't really give him credit for that, since he has no hands and he did try to change to Titan form and only stopped because it didn't work).

Other than that, literally nothing happened at all. I don't care whether there's action or not, but if you're going to have a talking-heads episode then at least put some real exposition in it, not just nothing.

Looks like next week is going to be a Ymir flashback, though. I somehow hold hope that this will be good.

4/10 really good.
The two most recent episodes were kind of slow pasted. Its nice to have a few none-thriller episodes every once in a while. We needed to focus on Reiner and the other guy (forget his name :/ ) so thats what we got. Basically, this episode was here to explain how the characters feel about their situation and its nice to give Ymir more screen time. I'm hoping that the episodes after this are gonna have more epic titan scenes and some sort of plot twist is gonna occur to end the season.

Hi, after watching season 2 so far, I hate the waiting so I went bck 2 season 1, and started watching them again, then wen I got to the episode wer Mikasa's family is killed and Eren go's to save her, he kills 2 of the men and unties Mikasa, before the 3rd tries to kill Eren, she says death was always ter, but she always looked away.
Then Eren tells her if you wanna live in this world you gotta fight, It shows Mikasa with electricity flowing through her and she breaks the handle of the knife with her bear hands and her stance puts in the flour boards. she's strong as a human and as a nine year old, was that a hint of her being a Titan then or am I just hoping she is.
Mikasa is a bad ass and would be unstoppable as a Titan. Dose anyone know if she is or am I just getting my hopes up.

PS... I just love her wen she's taken down Titans.

I'm surprised they didn't delve more into Marco's death considering the boring as fuck pacing of this episode. On top of that, they've animated Eren and Reiner into bipolar morons. As if Eren wasn't well-received from the start, he simply rubs off as an immature, explosive prick. Didn't think they'd develop these characters so poorly.

As an outlook of this entire season, i'm actually surprised they paced things so slowly. They aren't even touching the tip of the iceberg in terms of the series as whole. At this rate, what manga readers expected in Season 2 will happen in Season 4-5.

Wow I expected Eren to wake up and instantly start going off screaming but he was still in a state of shock and who can blame him! I want to see how much Ymir knows about the Titans because it seems like she knows a lot that she's not sharing...hum still a lot to be explained and only 3 episodes left but it looks like the next episode will have some flashback to Ymir's past

I hope Christa and Ymir don't die.
In fact I dream they'd actually fall in love, for some yuri fs, really.

That would be so lovely ^_^

Maybe a kiss before death, Awww, I'm blushing :3

Also, I was surprise Eren didn't went nuts with rage and transformed and made a mess.

This episode feels a lot slower definitely but I am still glued to my chair the entire time. If only they revealed who is the real enemy .. but I guess that's too early for that? Non-manga reader here.

And didn't know Marco flashback scene was so important according to some of the posts here so I am guessing Marco is also a titan? Only a titan eating another titan would probably cause so much shock to the 3 recruit titans back then.

Still can't make out what that Monkey titan was, etc from the conversation. I think the real enemy is highly likely to be humanity. Someone at the very top or maybe not. Them mentioning Christa to Ymir sounds like some big hint that I am supposed to speculate..

Wow look, one episode with Eren not screaming all through it. Although, he was angry most of it.. I like how they're revealing how much of an asshole Reiner really is, I've always really hated the true Reiner if I'm honest, I'm almost pretty sure he has a identity disorder.
I don't blame Ymir for wanting to protect Historia. I'd fall in love with that little scene they showed of her too.

So that short-flashback wasn't in the manga at this time, but a whole flashback some time later? How much later, this season?

That Marco flashback isn't revealed until the current arc, I think in chapter 77. It's definitely not going to be revealed fully this season.

After reading all through to the latest chapter, it's amazing to see just how spoilerish-yet-not-spoiling the author made this series. I swear watching this episode with no knowledge raises so many questions, but once everything comes to light, watching this episode is almost one lightbulb moment after another. it's pretty good how intricate and well thought out the events and dialogue in this episode was in the context of whats to come in seasons 3 or 4 and even 5.

I AGREE 100% FULLY AND I AM GLAD SOMEONE MANAGED TO PUT WHAT I FELT INTO WORDS LIKE THIS.

Reading this makes me wanna spoil everything ahh. All I'd point out is that to the shock of Marco's death, I always put it as that it was basically one of the first deaths they've seen of a close friend. Especially Marco, since that guy was a sweetheart. It also makes more sense why they were so shocked when the flashback was fully revealed.

By that, do you mean chapters 51 and 52? at this rate, I honestly doubt we'll even cover them. I think it's possible to cover some bits of chapter 51, but definitely not 52. It also seems that they'll only cover chapter 47 next episode. I hope they'll also include parts of chapter 48 but child Ymir doesn't make me too optimistic.

Yep, I hope so too. But I still trust the people behind it. I trust Tetsuo, Darnit.

We all knew this episode would be a bit slower after they kidnapped Eren and Ymir... but for all the talking in this episode, we didn't actually learn much.

I did like seeing Eren be less rage-monster and actually thinking for himself a bit.

While it was a slow episode, this is probably the first time this second season has actually managed to make an episode of that sort very interesting, with lots of emotions coming straight to the fray for both Eren and Reiner, but Reiner's whole split personality thing feels a bit cheap; Bertholdt seems to get by perfectly fine without one, and he's done far more than Reiner has in terms of atrocities. Also, it surprises me that Ymir even considers trusting those two about protecting Christa's future, seeing as all they've accomplished so far is the murder of thousands upon thousands of innocent people.

Like every SNK episode this one felt so short, it was good like always and it didn't need any action/fight. 5/5 for me
This ep had Eren thinking in possibilities and strategies to escape while trying to control his anger, it was so nice tbh, and i couldn't wait another week so i went to read the manga(that i stopped reading some years ago) and i read it until the last chapter that came out...
it's sad that the anime has just only few episodes to air now

If I wanted to pickup the manga from this episode, which chapter would I start with? Alternatively, is there enough material of significance either not covered by the anime or done better in the manga that would warrant reading it from the beginning?

This episode covered chapter 46. So read from chapter 47 if you want to. The anime is pretty much very faithful to the manga. I think the only big major difference was the FT vs Eren finale fight at the end of season 1, since Eren's berserk titan form never happened in the manga.

The constant padding was handled in a better way than other episodes. Did the director change? It was more pleasant to watch but in the end we again learned nothing and the main character is still portrayed as a screaming kid. No character development or plot progression actually happened. Reiner's condition, while interesting, was exaggerated. How could he be that insane without anyone noticing?

A Good "more talk, less action" Episode for this week...
I read the manga but 'quick to forget' it, so this episode pretty much reminds me how the story will go for this arc.
*The next arc after this season are pretty much "more talk, less action" and all political which makes it 'easy to forget' how the story will go imo. But we won't get to it soon consider It only have 12 Episodes for this season. Looking forward for It being animated though.

And for godsake, Eren's voice is annoying in this Episode...

Lol people. Hopefully you realize how strechted out the Anime actually is. The marco flashback got also ruined and was actually amazingly done in the manga which occurs in the far future actually. However they shortly mentioned it and ruined the surprise.

8,7 for this season is fucking ridiculous and doesn't deserve it. This comes from someone who loves the manga and enjoyed the first season(more or less).

There is a lot more to Reiner dissociative identity disorder than just what you learn in this episode, if the seasons will continue to be 12 episode even at season 4 and 5 you will really understand how this all happens, and it will make perfect sense. Everything isn't reveal yet just glimpses.
