I liked the episode. It had to be light as compared to ep 7 to compensate the feels.

Btw for me star of the episode was sala (zhiend vocalist)

I think you've missed the point. It is impossible for an extreme case of depression to heal that abruptly. Let alone the fact that he was also in grief. That was as unrealistic as healing a broken leg with mere words.

You can't heal depression with a couple of words and a good meal. I think it'd be fine if Yuu were clearly struggling right now, but that's not the case. A new character's arrived, seen through him and made a couple of comments about how he feels, but I just don't feel it. A sigh here and there isn't proper indication of someone's struggle, especially someone who was that down in the dumps.

Of course, you can just not care about these things. But given the situation, this tone shift could have been a whole lot better and much more believable. Episode 7 did show him get progressively worse, which was pretty awesome. The key issue here is the lack of gradual recovery. He got better so freaking fast that the fantastic character development he should have gotten was pretty much undone.

But once again I must say, this probably would have been a different story if this were a 24 episode series though. For the amount of development this plot could use, they should have made this series twice as long imo.

What makes you think that Yuu isn't struggling in that episode? The way he acts and interacts with the other characters of the student council bring as much evidence that he has completely changed compared with what happened before Ayumi's death. Yuu is far from being recovered. The fact that he can rely on Nao is the major event that makes him standing out on a decent life style.

You can have a decent lifestyle and struggling with depression at the same time. Plus, normally depression is hardly noticeable since the human being is good at hiding emotions and faking happiness. I bet there are several people in your entourage that are struggling with depression right now and you aren't even aware of it.

On that note, in Charlotte episode 08, they let us hear the thoughts of Yuu on numerous times so we can understand what's going on in his mind. Effectively, Yuu is still struggling. They won't spend another episode on this specific development since it's really easy to understand between the lines. The issue here I think is that you don't want him to recover since you seem to like how he was in the episode 07 and you feel disappointed by how he turned out in the episode 08. While I agree with you, Charlotte would have been better if it was a 24 episode. The development are sometimes too fast. On the other hand, I like how this anime is keeping dynamism, which raises a lot my overall enjoyment.

Another thing, Ayumi really cared about him all along of her lifetime, but Yuu feel guilty because he doesn't remember repay her on any given moment. Since he is struggling with the idea that he was a very bad big brother, he feels compelled to repay that by another intermediary. Nao, here, offered to take care of Yuu, in part by replacing the presence of Ayumi in his life, but also by being someone that he can trust and rely on. This is something surprising to Yuu because he knows that Nao doesn't trust anyone and he knows that she is totally not the kind of girl who would do this to anybody. Therefore, Yuu remembers that he couldn't repay Ayumi for anything she did, so he decided to repay Nao instead. Knowing this, he obviously has no good reason to come back on the lifestyle he has in the previous episode. Having a main goal (Repay Nao by helping her brother to recover) is enough to keeping you on a decent lifestyle. Although you have to remember that he still is struggling emotionally speaking.

If you thought the community was bad, the episode discussion topics are worse. Why? Hmm the first part was funnier with Yusarin's fans :p
The second part took a more serious and sad tone, the rememberance of Ayumi's death and the introduction of ZHIEND'S vocalist.
Quite a good follow-up episode.

It is just about the voice of Yuu being changed for the upcoming episode.

Full translation:

Otosaka Yuu
Voice: Uchiyama Kouki (until episode 8) Kamiya Hiroshi (from episode 9, due to illness he has resigned from voicing temporarily)

Protagonist, high school student first year, age 16. Has the ability to take over people's bodies for 5 seconds in his vision field, leaving his original body unconscious.
----
I don't know if it's real, because on Japanese Wikipedia nothing has been changed (the description of Yuu is from there) and there is no update of such on the Charlotte website.

First of all, just to make things clear, I'm no elitist (that word is already as stupid as it sounds, so cut it off), just a simple guy trying to "enjoy" whatever anime and however he wants, and I know the word "elitist" never appears once in your post but come on, what you were accusing me of (it's not true obviously, I never mentioned the anime community once or trying to disrespect others' opinions) is exactly what others would think of, so stop it.

Second, in case you don't understand what I was saying, or you were just putting words in my mouth, it's about how I thought the writer failed at writing a competent script and even failed at upholding the basic principles of his profession. I was going to elaborate more about why I would think that way or about the anime in general if you just simply ask me "why?", I will, and I have lots to say and I would like to share but I just don't want to spend that much time on this topics so I made it brief. But no, you take a look on my comment and my profile (you must have, based on what you've said) and immediately you let your prejudice against me takes over you and compels you to condemn me for something I didn't say. Wow, just wow. So congratulations, you made yourself a fool, an egotistical, quick to judge and self-absorbed fool, better luck next time.

Third, I don't care about others' opinions unless I found them interesting or they would like to share with me, or the majority of users on MAL, or 4chan or 2ch. Again, just a random dude who watches anime and occasionally, posts a few comments and also looks at what others have to say. I certainly know what they are and you are free to express what you think and how you feel about them. Just make sure what you say is based on something concrete and not just something in your head.

I seriously hope it's a rumor though. That's because of all the stupid things in this world that succeed in annoying me, I know that this is one. (I absolutely HATE it when they change the actors in serials shown in my country so I'm pretty sure a change in the voice actor would annoy me too.)
Though if the guy really is sick, hope he gets well soon.

The literal translation of the topic's title is:
主人公・乙坂有宇役の内山さんが病気で降板し9話以降は神谷さんが代役を務めるというデマがwikipediaに書かれる
(A rumor that Uchiyama-san has resigned from voicing main character Otosaka Yuu from episode 9 due to illness, and the role is being left to Kamiya-san is written on Wikipedia)

The picture that Yuu_vi_Britannia posted was taken from Wikipedia originally. Wikipedia is now back to normal:
https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte

So probably some impudent little troll snuck his/her way onto Wikipedia and edited it for kicks.
It is somewhat common for visual novel voices to get changed (one was recently) and there was a big notification on the website apologizing.
No update on Charlotte Twitter account either.
https://twitter.com/charlotte_ab_

Wiki is known to prevaricate others all the time since anyone can edit it...
----
The episode is a few days away, they would have said something (since the preview is still Uchiyama's voice...).

Also, episode 9 (etc.) was likely finished ages ago. Even if they were brushing up on some details in the episode before it airs, it's unlikely they will change the voice actor.

Good episode. Started a bit slow. But I like that they used the blind girl's sort of super-intuition to show how Yuu is trying to move on from his sister's death. I think the transition was well done. Good character development. Overall this series is starting to get better and I still like the comedy I don't think it's got old yet. The only problem I have is when I compare this to other KEY works since I except more powerful emotional scenes from Jun Maeda. The omurice scene in previous episode was good but nothing compared to Angel Beats for example.

Not to mention that he is entirely NOT back to normal. He keeps on thinking he needs to call his sister and stuff like that. The blind vocalist could tell in an instant that he was depressed about something. Heck, that was the entire point of the first half of the episode.

Let's not forget that, for all his nice guy qualities that surfaced after he joined the student council, Yuu is a first class liar and capable of pretty despicable behavior. (If the breakdown episode didn't make that patently clear!) He is good at pretending. It's good to her Miyuki-san's voice.
Nice to see Nao's brother started to feel better. Is there any chance for #imouto as well? (Saw preview)

Still more reliable and constructive than whatever you may say after losing your mind whenever someone say something positive about Nao...

Don't bother with them, that user always has their Nao hate goggles on. Apparently they can't stand other people liking her either lmao, real mature.

Oh, wow. Thanks a lot Yuu_vi_Britannia!
The pic's awesome. Finally we get to see Nao in casual clothes...
Also, that means that Yuu and Nao actually do head to the concert. After seeing the preview I assumed that Yuu ended up in the scientist's lair and that he never made it to the concert.

Vocalist chick seems cool but the comedy had become such a turn off for me at this point :/

Still nice to see Yu and Tomori growing closer together (sort of)

Next episode is some kind of date episode?

I'll be so happy the day when they will finally ban school uniforms from anime, they are just there to limit creativity, and the clothes the characters wear can tell us a lot of stuff about their personality and tastes (if the studio cares about this stuff, of course, but P.A. has already showed that they do, with Shirobako).

What I personally wanted to see was a sequence like this: Sala and him go to his room, and he's just spacing out (is the hospital always short on sedatives? ffs). Sala sings her song, and he has some kind of reaction. Nothing is certain, though, and the two just leave, while Yuu thinks "at least I tried, I still feel better for doing something selfless like this".
Just before he comes home, Nao calls to tell him that the hospital just told her to come, because her brother just said her name for the first time in ages, and she thanks Yuu with a broken voice. This way, you build up some tension instead of having them just show up and solve everything, and the scene hits twice as hard because you feel for both the miracle and Nao's reaction at the same time.

Yeah, something like this would have made sense. And it's not even that hard to think up now is it?
Honestly, my main problem with this episode was how easily Nao's brother was 'cured'. Or is he cured? I don't know. Yuu says, "Do you remember Nao?" and Kazuki repeats her name. At that point I was thinking, 'He can repeat a name... So?' Of course, Nao's phone call later reveals that he actually did recognize her but then it just felt a bit stupid.
Oh well, episode 9 seems like it's going to be fantastic. Just a few hours left...

Nao, it's obvious he did it for you, not for your brother.

The song was beautiful. Her voice is awesome.
The mix and match of drama and comedy is a bit awkward though.
Did I just saw little imouto Ayumi in the preview ? My god !

The girl with the red hair reminded me of the girl that disappeared after singing a song in angel beats ep. 3.

They have the same VA, no wonder.

So what did those 2 guys wanted with yuu when he was in despair? The guys waiting outside for him?

Her English wasn't thát bad. It's pretty good for a Japanese person.
Anyway. Nice episode I guess. Nothing special. I did like the new character. I'm guessing she has some kind of power too, but that might be ontopic in a later episode.

I wonder what the concert will be like!
