I don't know why but the OP reminds me of A-ha - "Take on me"

I was wondering why the tune sounded so familiar! It does sound like it haha. Boom Boom Satellites didn't disappoint with the OP.

The Kizuna system is very interesting, that connection through pain will allow people to really understand each other and stop fighting. The dialogue was way too straightforward though, from Sonozaki. Her explaining to the 7 main I have no problem with, but the earlier part where she was talking to Katsuhira felt random. Sure it was supposed to be random, but it felt too planned, I guess, if that makes any sense. Still enjoyed the first episode though. I love Kaji's Kenma voice :)

I hate Sonozaki. She went all the way to make the life of 6 kids harder, but she herself wasn't capable of entering into the same ordeal. She is the obvious 7th and she will obviously gonna have problems with that, etc etc

That aside, the quirk + stereopytical characters makes it interesting for me, and I wanna see more of the main 6 in their new shared life. That and I'm a sucker for Trigger art and animation, mostly because almost all anime looks identical in those aspects and they add something different that I like.

I am not so sure about that.
I do think that she most likely does not feel pain, the same way as protagonist.
After all, protagonist fainted most likely due to shock after being tasered, not because of the pain.

And she does want to connect to them, even if it is negative, which makes her pretty damaged person herself.

I'm gonna be really disappointed if this series sucks because the premise is pretty interesting. It seems like the main character has a bit of an advantage though because if he doesn't feel pain at all. And the colors and character designs in this anime are so pretty, I love the color schemes

Premise makes me think of Sense8. Unrelated people suddenly psychically connected with each other. But it looks like the focus will go elsewhere since the entire first season of Sense8 is built up without bringing all the characters together in one place to have this nice expository infodump that explains everything.

If they are sharing damage than minor stuff like slaps and pinches shouldn't hurt much. I guess its more of internal damage which is shared and not pain? Hope its explained.

Seems interesting so far. Lets see if it sinks or floats.

This show is objectively the worst of the spring season simple cause it doesn't even follow it's own rules and it's premise doesn't make any sense what so ever.

It's a little kiddy idea(sharing pain =/=world peace), there's no way for it to actually work logically, and it humors me that a top secrete govt. organization would even attempt to do something like this without think how someone is always getting hurt all time time.

The show already shat on itself.

When the women pushes the mc from a fatal height she tells him he survived because the pain was divided, but in the very next seen when the girl punches the guy everyone feels the exact same amount of pain.
This is a plan inconsistency.

Now lets say the pain is divided among 7 billion people, that means no matter how much you hurt yourself you wouldn't even feel 1/7billionth of that pain.

rendering the entire thing useless, cause no one would feel anything.

And if they adjust to where you do feel something, everyone would be constantly dieing all the time, do you know how many people commit suicide a day?

Or how many people grow tumors, cyst or have cancer?

It simply makes no sense what so ever period in any way you put it. This show is bad

I was almost certain the premise would be impossible to establish in a proper fashion but I actually loved it. I really liked all the characters and the designs were just amazing. With this and Luluco Trigger is looking really strong for this season. It's just the 1st episode so far so we'll have to see of course.

Boring start. At the end it got interesting. But don't expect a deep overall plot. (Kill La Kill already was boring plot/story - mainly good because of the action and OST.) Hopefully the atmosphere will be good and the tasks interesting. Might be good to watch if it's going to be psychological (fights and talking between the chars and the effect of the Kiznaiver system on their behaviour).

I hope it won't be too many episodes (2 cour coud get boring). And I'm not against Mari Okada. I know there were other boring shows where she was involved (which I dropped early or did not even watch because the description/summary sounded boring). But afaik she was involved with the Gundam Iron Blooed Orphans which I liked.

OP was "good" only for me.

We don't know too much yet from this episode, but we did get all the character intros! A MC with a troubled childhood and a girl telling him to regain what he's lost? Check. And then there's Chidori, the most tsundere of osananajimi bound to be out-done by the mysterious pretty girl that I have seen in a while. One of them catches the eye quite immediately, and that's the eccentric Niiyama Niko. She's a bit like a copy-pasted version of Harime Nui from Kill la Kill, but perhaps less murderous.

I'll definitely be watching to see what happens.

Osananajimi best girl.

Hi there /a/!

Anyway, I really don't know how to feel about this show. One one hand its premise is interesting and could go many places, and on the other hand its execution felt very sloppy and out of nowhere. Hopefully things become clearer or better explained in the future, because all the events seem randomly slapped together just so the premise would become introduced.
The same goes for the character interactions. The characters themselves aren't terrible (Except for the annoying redhead with the terrible voice), but their interactions seem so disjointed.
Animation, visuals, and OST were all on point though. Great OP as well.

Pretty good for the first episode, I have high hopes Trigger!

I kinda like the do-s feeling Noriko gives off, and that hime hair style too. omfg she's probably my favorite character so far in this season, but all the characters in this show are pretty cool and unique in their own ways. Except for the lil old childhood red head. I'm also liking the protagonist which is pretty rare for me.

Well, I also wondered what would happen to people who have chronic diseases or people who commit suicide, the premise is good but there are lots of problems with sharing the pain with everyone. Anyways, we'll see how it continues but it was an interesting first episode, probably the best for me this season along with Joker Game: 4/5.
"Doubting everything that you take on... That is very important. Open your own eyes, clear out your ears, and look and listen to the world... And think using your own brain. After you've doubted everything, there is a possibility of something real to believe in. To believe in something, doubt everything."

Can't wait to see where this show goes. This show seems to have potential, let's hope it doesn't all de-rial by taking itself too seriously. Trigger is known for being a bit wacky sometimes with their shows, let's hope they keep some semblance of that atmosphere here.

OP and ED were pretty good.

Love the art style, that signature Trigger look.

Characters insofar are okay, didn't feel anything special yet with them though.

The pain-sharing thing could be an interesting plot device and I hope that they will find some clever uses for it.

Probably the first 5/5 I'll give for a first episode this season without having a giggle. Shows like this make me wish I understood more Japanese since focusing on the subtitles splits my attention from the animation, of which there is a lot of. More, in fact, than I've seen of anything else this season. The characters were introduced in an interesting way, have good designs, and the use of colour and the style of the backgrounds really just clicks. The soundtrack is also off the beaten path. What can I say, I'm really interested to see where they go with this. If the premise is explored in an interesting way Trigger saving anime may not be a meme.

Holy shit, those production values are nice. This is clearly what trigger have been saving their money for since kill la kill.

Anyway the show seems to be interesting enough so far in terms of the premise, and none of the characters seem obnoxious. If trigger learn their lessons from klk to spread the budget evenly and explore the premise effectively, then anime is not in need of saving, but Trigger will do a pretty good job at it nonetheless.

I already thought of basically everything you said, but because it's the first episode I'm keeping an open mind. The only thing you've mentioned that potentially demonstrates an inconsistency is "When the women pushes the mc from a fatal height she tells him he survived because the pain was divided, but in the very next seen when the girl punches the guy everyone feels the exact same amount of pain.", but even then you can't possibly tell "everyone feels the exact same amount of pain". I'm expecting the rest will probably crop up as the series progresses. It's an experiment, so for now the important thing is it works for the five/six Kiznaivers.

EDIT: I thought for a second you were the same person whining about the drawbridge in Kabaneri, but you were actually pretty hot on the defence of that anime's premise. I hope you're not fanboying or a kid, because either way that's pretty gross.

I am not so sure about that.
I do think that she most likely does not feel pain, the same way as protagonist.
After all, protagonist fainted most likely due to shock after being tasered, not because of the pain.

And she does want to connect to them, even if it is negative, which makes her pretty damaged person herself.

About the first thing, I do recall the first minute where the protagonist felt pain after the girl jumped off. My guess is that MC and that girl where part of Kiznaiver's first wave of experiments, which leaved him incapable of feeling pain but because of those experiments he felt the pain in that moment. There is people IRL that don't feel pain, so the anime may have drawn inspiration off them, and I think the anime, besides other things, want to show how an insensible, apathetic person feels when he/she starts to connect to other's pain, phisically in this anime. I think it could be transposed (or it will be done in the anime) to the psychological plane, in an experiment of empathy. Basically the main reason why I'll stick to the series.

And the second one, her intentions are pretty obvious. Unless she has somehow been able to hide the pain really well, I do feel her as a pretty awful person for doing that to the others but not really beign capable of going with them. Manipulative and twisted characters don't rub me off, some of them are interesting, but she feels like a coward above all that, and is like they already gave her entire arc already.

I hope I'm wrong.

Hmmm so we can think of main characters as of "7 modern deadly sins", and through this strange system they are shareing pain which allows them to withstand even fatal damage for a normal person.
But I don't know how this power will allow them to accomplish this victory Sonozaki talked about.
So far I'm really interested in this series and can't wait to know and see more.

Thought the concept of sharing pain is quite interesting, but the episode felt so dry and the MC is boring. Couldn't really care about what Sonozaki was explaing to the MC, felt like it was irrelevant at this point in time. Might drop the series depending on how the story progresses in episode 2.

Looks like it'll be KlK all over again. Promising to deliver an awesome story..but not this episode, eventually. Every episode. And after 20 episodes of such promises, letdown.

If this were any other studio than Trigger I'd be very optimistic but this has all the same signs: a lot of focus on style with vague hits that substance will appear sometime later. I'll keep watching with interest, they're not guaranteed to write themselves into a corner just because KlK. And well, worst case, watching KlK's escalations was pretty entertaining on a weekly basis, it was just the end result that was disappointing.

I just hope they'll make a 9/10 show and not something that looks and smells like a 9/10 but is merely an undercover 6/10.
