not on the side of Mary being the best or whatever but glad someone like her is here to point out all shit they are doing wrong will say her personality is piss poor if she stays like that

Renji is legit as fuck though hes pretty much like a "maxed level" character would be in a mmo perspective

Mary's negative attitude will impact them positively in the future, everything she said was right from a tactical standpoint. Ranta's wound wasn't that serious, conserving magical power for a serious injury is more important.

Yume is by far the best character.

This episode did a pretty decent job showcasing the aftermath of Manato's death and how the characters reacted, even if it got a little bit repetitive sometimes.

Thing about Renji is that he basically picked the best guys at the start and left everyone behind, I'm not saying he feels responsible, because he doesn't, but it's basically "sorry, don't starve to dead now" money.

I guess but a better more effective way would be absorbing him into his party and training and looking after them until they could either go alone (which prolly becomes competition) or stick with them for good.

And as expected the loss of Manato weighs heavy on them all. A rather reflective and emotional outing. I quite enjoyed that tearful embrace near the end. So now we've got new girl Mary. She certainly comes across as a wooden hardass so far, but I suspect that'll change as we go on.

We ( and you in this case ) are one to talk with your knowledge through games and shows. They didn't get taught by anyone. They can't differentiate right from wrong. Over the many fights they had they formed a basic combat style that made them improve and win. Of course it wasn't good in the long run but they didn't know that. In the end they paid for it but only realized it now when a new person with a different perspective came into the group.

You see how confused they are with her ideas? They haven't ever heard any other opinions nor have they seen another party doing things different than them. Of course they would be irritated at first but that's also a part of their growth

Yea you're right that they lacked knowledge but there is no way I wont see this from a bias point of view because to me it would be almost suicidal to have a priest as the vanguard and tank when any wrong move would equal death.

as a pessimist and a coward I would have had Manato stay as only support and if he really wanted to beat stuff up with his mace I'd let him do that to the stragglers.
but that's just me saying this as an observer, I honestly have no idea what i would have done in their situation.

hindsight is 20/20 after all

Mary is annoying as fuck.
Because she called them out on their bullshit and actually acted like a proper conventional priest?
Surely you can do that without being a total prick about it.Mary most certainly didn't try to be civil with her new party.
On that topic, who would've thought that the writer could manage to come up with a character even more annoying than Ranta? That's kind of an achievement, in itself.

The episode was alright and provided some decent material for the Harume shippers, but it's shame that a supposedly powerful (albeit a tad cliché) scene was ruined by some misplaced sexualisation.
I didn't mind the last scene with Shihuro because it was meant to lighten the mood, but the fanservice is definitely starting to get a bit old.

Great episode on the aftermath of losing a comrade/friend permanently. Each character tries to cope or rationalize the loss in their own way. The group dynamics were well played in that situation.

I did like Mary's attitude meeting the fail group for the first time, "I'm a priest, why do you expect me to be on the front lines when I'm meant to heal you?" and the implied "No I'm not gonna heal you, walk it off and kill stuff till you actually need me."

Mary joins the team. Now the gender is balanced in the party.

The quiet Moguzo suddenly burst - Wow, I never expect that.

Yume and Haruhiro's moment - I could feel the pain you're suffering. Seems like we have the first couple in the party (?).

If Manato never dies, Shihoru might be with him.

Which is RPG mechanic - especially from MMORPG. In AD&D priests could equip heavy armour and shield.

Main difference here is the fact that the universe of Grimgar declares itself as a "reality" and not the "mmorpg" (or tabletop) while being literally riddled with RPG tropes.

I think this was another well done episode to help transition from Manato's death, it really showed how they thought they were nothing without Manato until the ending when Haruhiro finally realized they were strong because they were together. It was also cool to see some of the other guys like Kikkawa and Rinji show up and express in their own ways about Manato dying and then also finally getting to meet their new priest Mary which is pretty funny in terms with the dynamic of the group which I can't wait to see how that goes further on in the next episodes and lastly...I loved that ending with the Haruhiro x Yume! I want more! Overall a really good episode like I said before to transition the group forward after Manato's death.

Man threads like this are why I understand why people hate anime fans...

Inject some actual human emotion into an episode? PREPOSTEROUS! THERE NEEDS TO BE CARTOON TITTIES!

Character's slowly becoming aware that their actions got their friend and leader killed? NEVER! WHERE ARE THE TITTIES?! GIVE ME THE CARTOON TITTIES!

Actual relations between characters that are hurt and need to be mended past some slapstick humor and fan service? UGH GOD IT'S SO SLOW.

Friends grieving for someone for several days? Trying to carry on without the one person they ALL trusted the most? UGH WOW THEY ARE STILL CRYING OVER THIS?! COME ON!

Do you people feel human emotions at all? Or are you all just loveless, friendless NEETS?

I can understand this show being too emotional and slow paced for some people who prefer lighter and more colorful shows. But COME ON! This is really good story telling and development. You don't have to pretend it's garbage just because it's not what YOU like.

I really liked this episode, and this time they CORRECTLY used a song over a scene. It reminds me a lot of when several students in my HighSchool died in the same year, some were accidents, others were suicide. Seeing students who you could tell were affected by it, just trying to make it through the day, others sobbing in the halls, and some who never knew the person, just laughing and living their lives cause nothing changed at all for them. I think this episode nailed that feeling.

Love the heart-pouring scene of Haru-Yume. As a LN’s
reader, I’m satisfied that IMO, anime managed to did it more beautifully,
more touching by changed some of the details. Also it was a right decision to
put the scene for the closing of eps (more emotional punch).

Many ppl probably would quickly answered “Manato” if they were
asked on who the party member that is closest to Haru, but I think
Yume is actually more correct, though it's more apparent in anime. Their personality, quirks, jobs
complement each other & they have some things they can relate to
each other. Both also talk more easily with each other. I'm really liking the writer and/or director of the anime, I like the way they approach the materials and characters, esp. with Yume. As my fav female char. even in the LN, I like how the anime staffs seem to love her more than the LN author himself, she gets handled and adapted much better in anime, therefore also get much more popularity from anime viewers than in LN readers.

Thinking the same, in the LN their interaction is not that good and close, even this scene is less emotional in the novel, maybe because the anime staff (dunno why but I love it) is giving them the love vibe, instead of the friendship vibe that gives the LN.

Didn't like the drama. The red hair girl slapping the annoying talkative guy seemed really unnecessary. After death of a loved one you have to mourn but you do have to pick yourself up after a while and move on. Didn't like the new female character introduced to the team, she seems like a boring kuudere, the red head girl not making a big deal about Mary replacing the guy that died from the beginning seems out of character considering she seems straight forward and impulsive. Lastly the misunderstanding in the end was really cringy and ruined the moment.

Perhaps she can't. Who knows? We just guess, because world operates on MMO mechanic, while being "real" and we can only guess which mechanic works and where! There is no single suggestion that world classes are mimicking ones in WoW. Or any other MMO! Actually, it even suggest that it isn't MMO at all! It's not like anyone ever explained to them how universe works, what is standard tactic or what are restrictions for each class, why there are classes in the first place etc.

Why no one ever bothered to explain Manato (or anyone else) that Priests are for some reason unable to fight in the front lines?

Of course, Mary will have *sign* "noobz!" attitude. It's classic approach of MMO player encountering the "newbies", elitist and automatically expecting that everyone knows the mechanics.

But no one taught them that!

Who would? There is no user manual, people don't know what MMO is and whole universe repeatedly tries to convince us that this is real world and not some game.

It made me wonder who taught the mechanic to Mary as trainers are obviously not giving a f*** when it comes to teaching the most useful skills and are instead trolling them with useless restrictions that doesn't make sense in the real world.

I dunno. So far they have safely avoided most of it, despite the logical troubles of adjustment to the new world. What bugs me endlessly, is that we haven't been shown any meaningful interaction with locals, not involved in the human trafficking. And you'd think that people wold have an opinion on some alien teens falling from the sky, especially people in a small borderland town.
Normally stories about people getting into worlds have the survive the locals phase.

Also I wonder if the main cast would ever start to question their situation in terms of what have been done to them. I expected them to blame the priest after Manato's death. They can feel they are not fighters, so, if Manato had not been forced into this world and to fight there, he would've (most likely) been alive. Also in their situation isn't it logical to worry about what you have left behind and don't remember now?..

Unpopular opinion but I for one actually enjoyed this episode and appreciate how the pacing of this series has been. I feel that as if many MAL users seem to be impatient with the show, but quite frankly I'm enjoying how much time they put into each of the episodes along, I feel as if this series has been a breath of fresh air in the recent MMO series that have been out that appear to have some sort of cliche attached to them. And in this series, we get to see how the character's themselves are able to grow together as a unit instead of instant plot dialogue thrown in along with a whole lot of character development. As an MMO player myself, an MMO is mean't to be played for the journey and the experience and it may as well be frustrating and slow paced at time, but this series is one of the few that I have been able to relate with well.

In the last episode, we barely even noticed a reaction from Haru after Manato's death even when he was considering one of Manato's closest friends, but in this one we finally get to see how much it impacted him as a whole. I feel like him breaking down and finally exposing himself as who he is finally gives us a sense of how human he is. I mean, if one of your closest friend's suddenly dies in the blink of an eye, it wouldn't just take a simple "get over it" portion, it takes a whole lot of time to adjust and be able to accept the reality of what you're facing with a friend's death. In this case, Haru is showing what should be normal in his circumstances.

I also appreciate how a badass character such as Renji isn't an absolute bitch to lower level characters such as Haru's group and still has a sense of humility towards the people he first appeared in the world with. Hoping to see more of him and a little bit of his backstory since he seems to actually act like a proper leader.

Oh and Mary looks great BTW. From what I've heard she's gonna be pretty important/cool in future developments.

Also, that hugging scene was pretty non-cliche. After they were discovered, glad that Yume didn't resort to punching and kicking while screaming at him with "idiot or pervert", instead it was just two friend's simply comforting each other when in dire need to. Also that side boob portion, I think I read a user saying that it was adding an "ecchi element" to the anime, newsflash, even "flat-chested girls" have boobs, get over it.

Not sure what it is, but I love these shows with slower developments. The fact that they took a whole episode to show a bit of emotional recovery. The fact that they brought in Mary without a second thought, and the fact that even till the middle of the episode they couldn't figure out what they were doing wrong when planning their raids and the division of labor, all make this show way more believably real than just your average "Oh, I fucked up last episode, I'm suddenly smarter for it and have leveled up immediately, now lets go kick goblin ass" plotline.

Looking forward to more growth in the next episode with Mary's story and how she will integrate herself with the team.

As for Yume and Haru.... I'm not quite sure I wanna ship just yet...

you could say that up until his death manato was haruhiros closest friend. their partys anchor and cherished ally "quite literally" just died "or did you really need to" dismiss that enormous plot point? pretty callous of you to treat manato like he was just some object. im 100% certain that the same amount of people would complain if they got over his death in one episode. like idk if you werent paying attention or something but its only been several (1-3) days since they cremated manato. if youve never experienced the death of someone close to you then this is a variation of what its like to mourn and grieve, amplified by their current plight because again if you havent noticed this either, haruhiro and his crew are completely lost. its so blatantly obvious that everyones scared out of their wits without manato i almost want to criticize the author for beating us over the head with it, but i cant because its actually important to portray sorrow. you know, the human emotion...i mean following your logic everyones a "lil' bitch" because we all experience sadness.

Well that was a good episode even if it was slow. I don't like slow pace at all, but withe the thought of first 3 episodes i think the pace is much better now.
Don't think saying Mary is best girl with her 30 sec screentime is right and honestly don't think she is, but she is not that bad and quite likable. Pretty sure some kind of backstory for Mary incoming.
Liked the Haru-Yume scene very much. The SHIP! =/ But sadly it won't go anywhere.
And with how the show progressing don't think that there will be some kind of crazy heavy story, which would've been interesting to watch, but not sure if for better or worse.

Maybe because this anime is very detailed and well done? Not only in the general art but also on the animation, expression, and atmosphere?

Gate and many other anime also have that problem with fabric material. But only grimgar bugs me.

...fucking seriously?

This show is unpredictable? I guessed with 100% accuracy as to the first 2 central characters who will die in the story. This anime is VERY cookie cutter. It's weird to see people trying to say "This is not your standard fantasy", it literally couldn't be more standard. Log Horizon had more balls than this.

Hell, even SAO had more balls than this anime... and somehow better characters.

Also, seriously? Who cares about romance between a bunch of bland characters. The 3 guys are, 1 cunt, 1 characterless but acceptable MC and 1 gentle giant guy you forget exists. The girls are 1 bumbling retard who can't even feed a bird without falling over, 1 kuudere trope and... well, I actually like Yume but she's totally my trope of tomboy, cheerful idiot.

All of the characters in this are pretty bland, even the "OMFG SO COOL" Renji guy... but at least with Renji, it looks like they might have had a cool story.

Why pick the loser, retard group who can barely kill a single goblin instead of the group of soldiers people are like "Fuck, they showed up, let's keep our heads down."?

respect your opinion dude but I have my own too.

And suddenly we have same no of boys and girls. I hope romance pops up and not the love triangles. But this show is really unpredictable

Don't go expecting ships... you'll only let yourself down.

Then again reading the hug scene was a 100x less romantic than actually watching it.

true this would not be the first time I will let myself down
