One question I have was why is Shirou able to use a Noble Phantasm? I thought that was exclusive to servants.

They're not, but he doesn't actually use a Noble Phantasm anyway here. I mean there are some NP's in UBW but he doesn't "activate" them. Also UBW isn't a Noble Phantasm, it's a Reality Marble.

Lol this episode was full of bullshit. Archer uses unlimited blade works twice before his supposed death and yet he still has enough mana to help both Rin and Shirou?

Then suddenly Shirou is strong enough like a servant? where did this sudden powerup come from? And don't give me the "archer memories" bs because he wasn't this strong in the previous episode. Like I stated last time, the power levels are inconsistent. They never establish it properly and expect you to have the VN knowledge.

Another thing is If Gilgamesh had no intention of dying like he stated, then why didn't he use Ea when he was cornered? If Shirou wasn't worthy then how come he easily used it on that giant dickhand last time? smh the plot conveniences are real.

2/5

The only thing good in this episode was the action scenes.

Shirou said in the episode, he will lose against any other servant.
Like Gil said too fighting for real against Shirou is like admitting defeat.

Well, the grail came back out of nowhere to stop Gil from killing Shirou.

UBW is not really a proper NP, it's a reality marble specific to Shirou due to his origin...
it's a magecraft

Easily? He was pushed into using EA, unfortunately for him it was too late

and he essentally lost against Shirou based on his own terms

He stood around for no reason for most of his screen time in the last episode, I don't think it's OOC for him to waste more time.

Actually Rider having that is an asspull because only mages(if you count the living in Nasuverse) can supposedly have Reality Marbles.

So plot armor saved Shirou. I still see no explanation regarding the Archer which means the adaptation is at fault I guess.

Animation was great and it felt really epic. Yet they failed to explain why Archer appeared again and it may seem like deus ex machina to anime only viewers. Rho Aius was also like afterthought. And for some reason, parting scene didn't have the impact it should have.

Well, at least they are giving us an epilogue with brand new scenes.

Even the powerlevels aren't established properly and they expect you to know everything. Archer uses his reality marble twice, got stabbed by some of Gilgamesh's weapons and he still has mana to last long enough to help both Rin and Shirou.

Finally watched the episode, pretty awesome. Have no real complaints except I wish they hadn't blown the budget on the first cour, Gilgamesh vs Shirou had some funny animation at times :/.

Also casting the reality marble really lacked any impact.

Apart from those two issues it was an amazing episode, excellent use of music (apart from when casting the reality marble).

That would suffice as mysophobia, not mongrelphobia. Actually, F/Z Gil's arrogance(by the arrogance that fate fans make him to be) is shown by much more clearer actions and lines.

What was said in this episode:

The Reality Marble is a natural counter to Gilgamesh, allowing Shirou, a below average magus, to completely overwhelm and defeat him. Though Shirou would be no match against other servants, who have mastered their own weapons to the utmost limit, the fact that both he and Gilgamesh are "owners" of numerous weapons places them on a level playing field

Shirou is able to instantly recognize dozens of weapons being fired from the Gate of Babylon at an extremely high rate and instantly counter with projections of the same weapons before they can strike.

What actually happened: Shirou beating Gilgamesh through highjumping with his Rho Aigis surfboard!

Well, actually... this one was pretty logical. Remember that Gil was engulfed by the grail in the last war, he had parts of its curse inside him. So you can see it as grail's one last attempt to open the portal again.

It's not explained in the anime but to completely ensure the death of a servant. They have to destroy their spiritual core. Dat + IA. I understand that it still feel like an asspull though. Even in the VN.

Except it is wrong. Gil has ABSOLUTELY nothing from that and Gil was absolutely NOT affected by it.
The only reason Grail targeted him was for another try to get a magus to plug into, even though Gil is not a magus so it would not work anyway. Grail is not a "person". It has no "interests".

Yeah the narrative dissonance is one of BIGGEST flaws of this adaptation

Lancer: "You are smart, kid"
*Shirou procceeds to do dumb shit and be dense"

Archer: "Wow Shirou is fighting by pure will and not skill and barely standing on his feet!"
*Shirou parkours around*

Caster and Rin: "Wow Fighting against Caster is impossible for modern day magus"
*Caster runs away from gandrs...*

The show really fucked up in "Showing not telling" of pretty much everything.

Ufo with the Grail's hands did try to foreshadow what happens to him at the end.
