[Update May 14] IP/Cookie/Logout Fix! Plus Register & Login Through Social Media.

Hey everyone! I wanted to make a few announcements before we push an update within the next hour or two. First, the long-standing cookie/IP/logout issues is finally being kicked to the curb. No longer will be you logged out when your IP address changes! In order for this fix to run, the update will automatically logout all users one last time. So you'll need log back in, but your sessions should now persist even if your IP changes. I know this fix has been long wanted, and I'm excited we're finally able to deliver it!

For the second announcement, we're deploying registration and login improvements. Once this update goes live, you'll be able to login and register through Facebook, Google and Twitter. This change will allow users to sign up easily, and not worry about passwords or remembering their usernames across multiple websites. It will also allow existing members to link their Facebook, Google or Twitter accounts to their MAL account and then proceed to login using the social media sign-on.

Finally, we're looking at updating older areas of our site - and the first corner we're planning on tackling is the user profile page. If you have any constructive suggestions or ideas on how to make the page more engaging, informative, or just better in general, please head on over to this thread and post a comment!

To link your account:
Hover your username in the top right corner and choose "Settings". Alternatively, Edit Profile > Account Settings.
This is also the new page for changing your email, username and password.

Update May 8:
You may be logged out after a period of inactivity (roughly 20-30 minutes). Seems a bug still needs to be squashed. They're working on it and will let us know as soon as it's fixed, but it may take a day or two. Please bear with us for now and we'll let you know when it's fixed.

I know where does problem with unwanted logout is.... The thing is when you change your IP to another one or reset the router and you have assigned a new IP you will be logged out instantly after you refresh the website. I'm guessing that it might be a session/cookie problem.

That's what the latest update solved. It now lets users with dynamic IPs to breeze through the site without getting logged out every 3 or so pages. However the fix gave birth to another problem (getting logged out after 20+ mins of inactivity) and we're fixing that right now.

Why is it that every other Site manages to simply keep me logged in, as long as I have the appropriate Session Cookie (and having clicked "Keep me logged in")?

If you had actually read what I wrote, you'd see I said "please don't ever make it compulsory to log in via social media". Meaning that I am fully aware it's not necessary right now. Meaning I hope it doesn't become so in the future.
