| I find nothing special in Berserk too. If one would ask you what is it about, you can just summarize it in few words: Mindless rape scenes. It started off terrible for me but the Goden Age arc made up for it a little. The characters are too creepy for me to stand, it's as if, in Berserk's world only rape thoughts exist in their minds. Guts is the only interesting character but he seems rather bland and a killing machine. Since I just finished Claymore, which is comparable with Berserk in many ways, I like Claymore far better. At least it's far superior in characterization. |

Majority of them had meaning and purpose in the story and to the characters. | Obviously im a big fan of berserk, even the anime but its definitely one of those shows that are inferior to the manga, it helps that the manga is freaking beautiful (not caught up so not sure how it is in later chapters). didn't care for the 1st movie but plan on watching the rest if only for the reason of watch the eclipse part orrrr I can probably just youtube it lol. | I liked the manga, especially the art. The only downside, though a major one is that it takes a lot of time for new chapters, around 18 pages each and the main plot probably won't end within the next 10 years (that is, if Miura even planned on ending it). |

I remembered because the DC game is what got me into the manga, and right after I played it I jumped onto IRC and started downloading. I think the DC game and the anime were the main two ways people got into the series for awhile. EDIT: Just to clarify the timeline a bit, when the Dreamcast game hit, the anime hadn't been released yet in the U.S., and dial up was still mostly the norm so downloading the series wasn't much of an option. You had VHS fansubs, but most people jumped straight from the game to downloading the manga. It was a little bit after that when people were introduced with the Golden Age first via the anime (outside of the 1st episode anyway), since the DC game and the start of the manga are the Black Swordsman arc. Thank you for clarifying that I forgot it was 97 that it was released. Man you are lucky you got to play the DC game. At the time the only game I had on the Dreamcast was Crazy Taxi lol. I was living in Argentina back then (my dad moves around a lot). We could only buy the games at the U.S. embassy and they had slim pickings lol. Luckily I know Spanish and was able to watch the full series in one of the channels that aired anime in Argentina. They aired everything from Dragon Ball, Shin-chan, NGE to even Berserk lol. |

We FINALLy got to see someone at least slap Griffith and call him out since the Hill of Swords, that's been ten years in the coming. I was really worried Rickert might join Griffith. One other thought I had, I think Berserk is just a weird manga in that it almost switches genres on the fly; you go from horror and dark fantasy to medieval low fantasy, then back to horror, then to high fantasy. If you are someone who likes all of those, it's tough to find a better manga. If you only like one, you're probably going to be more in the middle (like it seems a lot of people are in regard to just liking the Golden Age). I do agree with criticism about the recent Sea God arc, but outside of that I love everything Berserk. you know what??? i dont really care as long as we get to see the end of it which i am honestly kind of starting to doubt. i think i'll love the series even if i'm not 100% loving the end. it's just such an interesting, unique anime. the characters and their development.. everything.. is great. i think somebody in this thread mentioned before that people either dont care about berserk or REALLY love it. and i think that's very true. |

The problem is that you watched the anime instead of reading the manga. The anime is incomplete and leaves out a lot. |
