Because the general population are idiots and can't think for themselves. There are a rare few out there that can do so and figure things out on there own. If you are one such soul consider yourself lucky, cause you could be a idiot and not know it. Btw this isn't just in anime, movies and tv shows are the same; even some books are like this. (Thankfully most authors believe that since you are reading that you must have a few brain cells that actually work.) |

Yet for some inexplicable reason I still completely understood everything that was going on outside of those conversations. Personally I don't see infodumps as an inherently bad thing. Sometimes listening during parts like that and not just crying about the fact that it's an infodump can help you appreciate the series more. What makes Mahouka bad is that said pointless infodumps are not only boring but completely useless too. What makes it even worse is that they happen all the god damn time. If they cut out all the magical jargon bullshit and focused on the generic story on characters more they could probably cut it down to 12 or 13 episodes. It would be incredibly mediocre and forgettable but for Mahouka that would be a big improvement. |

In a show with such an incredibly grand storyline that explores a lot of complex themes and has a huge cast of characters with all sorts of conflicting ideologies it all ultimately serves a purpose. It does. It seems the problem is your low attention span. Mahouka is just some fucking magic highschool show. There's literally nothing complex or unique about the story, the themes, the setting or the cast that merits such long, drawn out conversations to explain what's going on. It's just one guy using his useless knowledge about computer programming to hide that he can't write for shit. I really doubt you understood everything. There's not really much to it. Highschool politics, discrimination, magic tournaments, it's all been done a million times already. The only difference is that Mahouka pretends to be smarter than them without doing anything smart. The info dumps are important for understanding what's happening without them people would be crying about asspulls and plot holes. The only reason Mahouka doesn't have anything like 'asspulls' or 'plot holes' is because the author's too afraid to step out of his little comfort zone of tried and tested cliches. What the author doesn't seem to realise is that his story has way bigger problems than a few plot holes as a result |

@SeibaaHomu The magic in Mahouka is a lot different than traditional magic you find in other anime so there needs to be more explanation. Magic in Mahouka isn't the typical hocus pocus magic you would find in other magic shows like Harry Potter etc., in Mahouka magic is like a science and Mahouka itself is basically a sci fi show. So of course you will get a lot of sci fi techno babble. Mahouka has one of the most unique magic systems in anime and an awesome futuristic Cold War setting . If you really understood everything then explain to me why Tatsuya is so op yet he failed the practical exam and is considered a false magician by certain people? Mahouka has no plot holes and asspulls because the author explains everything and properly foreshadows things. |

Though I find Japanese culture to be more into "very heavy expression" (for lack of a better word). Characters are more serious and react more strongly to stimuli. 2-The intended audience. Anime is heavily divided into demographics and appeals to specific niches, the movies you mention don't have an intended audience per se. Indeed. But to be accessible every TV or film will tend to explain more than it strictly needs to. So it's natural if you notice something being explained that you already figured out before. I noticed that for instance when watching Psycho Pass which is a very sophisticated adult series. |
