Yeah, the "post" refers to how the stress disorder takes place after the traumatic experience. Kirito's traumatic experience was killing people, not being stuck in Sword Art Online.

the traumatic experience extends through whole SAO incident for him - every day was a nightmare of survival and honing one's skills and be or be killed. SAO for him only ended when he got Asuna out of ALO, and then majority of his psychological problems kicked in full gear(Even though they slowly reared their heads through SAO and ALO but the "damn it i am about to be killed gotta survive" situations did not allow his psyche to dwell on it for too long). Its very akin with how it is with war veterans in real life

I simply can't agree with that, because that'd be invalidating everything SAO actually meant to Kirito: even though being an occasional front-liner and staying ahead of the leveling curve were harsh, and he went on a big ass and very inconsistent guilt trip because of Sachi & co., from the very beginning he stated he felt more alive in Aincrad than IRL. And his stance on the validity of online interactions was confirmed throughout all of the first half of the first season.
In SAO, he made friends and formed strong and lasting bonds with 'em; met the love of his life and then formed a family with her and their virtual daughteru Yui, and also learned other reasons to live and things to protect (thus overcoming the loss of his guild); was ahead of the game and surpassed everyone in terms of skillz, and was even rewarded for that (double wielding skill). There were even occasional discussions between Asuna and Kirito about how they (as well as many other players) seemed to get more and more accustomed to their life in Aincrad and how splendid this VR actually was if you took time to appreciate its beauty and what it had to offer.

Sure he suffered his lot in SAO, but at the end of the day the experience was more rewarding and positive to him than anything else, because this is where he was able to come out of his shell and experienced true love and happiness. That's why I stand by my point that SAO wans't in itself, traumatizing: being forced to kill was.

I don't know what it is about A-1 Pictures but they seem utterly incapable of animating an interesting looking fight or really interesting action scene period beyond the first 3 episodes of their series in what seems to be becoming a pattern of mediocrity. To know other animation studio does the 3 episodes rule apply nor change it's meaning to it indicating where the rising tension peaks than with A-1 Pictures.

It's always been a problem with this franchise in particular but I felt they might maybe just maybe be getting past that finally with episode 2 which was the first time I can remember being really pulled into a fight in pretty much any one of their series in recent memory. Nope though. They just seem content to rely on their Yuki Kajiura or Hiroyuki Sawano or x popular artist music blaring in the background, a couple of quick cuts with dull uninspired choreography, one and done and that's it style of combat. Just no passion, no inspiration......I don't even know why they bother really sometimes. What's worse their overhead Aniplex seems to be exporting this lack of inspiration or passion for the animation to other studios of late like Madhouse with Mahouka where you can just tell they barely give a fuck with most of action cuts in the show. That one and done get it over with and get on to the next scene feel is very much evident there too, but when you look at something like Hunter x Hunter or hell even No Game No Life the passion for the animation is there. Just blah....I really don't like this company if there's any secret to it anymore and am again reminded with this episode why I think they're chief among culprits when it comes to making a lot of popular and anticipated anime turn out kind of shitty and devoid of any real artistic merit and again passion. At least their presence doesn't seem to have foiled Watanabe in Terror in Resonance.

Other than that this arc takes one step closer to it's conclusion and like most arcs everyone around him is basically just forced to accept that they'll never be as good as Kirito......even when he's not really trying.

There was a lot of hype potential in this episode. It was good, but could have been much better. I felt Sinon's and Kirito's match should have been more epic, but that's just me.

Kirito's going to have a lot to explain when Asuna finds out about how he held Sinon.

If Asuna saw the ending of that duel... ohhhh ohoh :P

Nevertheless, this episode really demonstrated Kiritos power and intelligence when it comes to combat. I reckon Sinon really underestimated his skills and thats why she wasnt that prepared to fight him. Actually, either unprepared or unskilled in battling someone of his unique strategy.

Ill give this one a 4/5 cause we got to see how GGO really is a matter of life or death for Kirito, especially since he is fully aware of the deathgun and the person who owns it >.<

Well, Asuna trusts Kirito so she wouldn't mind even if they were to kiss in the end. She must be happy that she can see his face, she better not to be greedy.

And about Sinon, it's not like she wasn't prepared or unskilled, She's the GGO's best sniper, it's more like that Kirito is invincible and untouchable so whoever will combat him, Kirito is always the winner. -_- Prove that I'm wrong!! The man NEVER lost a goddamn duel or a fight.

He never lost a duel in anime but in novels.. who knows.. we will find soon enough. :)

It just doesn't feel right though.

Like the quasi-romantic ending, good for laughs.

Well, there is that red prediction line that helps... and he did have the fastest reaction time in SAO..... and besides. Regardless if one is pro or not, if theres a maniac running toward u swinging a lightsaber around, your accuracy bound to decrease.

after every episode in this series i've found myself thinking "was that it?"
barely anything happens in each episode and it's a little disappointing. even so, the little that happened was still entertaining

also i can't believe Kirito held Sinon like that when he has a girlfriend...

Damn I missed Kirito's and Asuna's avatar in SAO. Glad to see it again. I thought they would show more Kirito jedi action before his fight with Sinon but oh well.

This was the end of vol. 5 right? So we're already halfway through the Phantom Bullet arc.

Kirito just made a single slash to try to block the bullet, he knew the general position of the bullet, left leg, so as soon as Sinon pulled the trigger, he slashed, pretty sure he didn't react to the bullet itself but the shot, well, it's more logical to think that way, but hey, its anime.

If you will focus, you'll find that Sinon stumbled and she was about to fall on the ground but Kirito pulled her while putting his sword close to her nick. most likely he didn't want to let go of her because he was afraid she'd shoot 'em ofc. :D

Retcon?

Are you asking about what the word retcon means in general or what the specific retcon in this episodes was?

A retcon is when something that was previously established is changed retroactively. The retcon in this episode was the whole LC attack/killing thing and Kirito suddenly having ptsd.

It was said in season one that Kirito was one of the reasons the guild was destroyed.

It isnt retcon to have a trauma for killing real people. In the novel he even stated to have nightmares if he was alone after he killed Kuradeel(although the whole event is a reason as well).I dont remember if it was in the anime but Kuradeel also called him a murderer to mess him up.

Now I am asking if you know what a retcon is.

I'm a bit unsure about what I think of the series thus far, this episode had the fabled line where Kirito says;

"If that bullet could also kill a player in the real world... and if you didn't shoot them... you or someone you love would be killed... could you still pull the trigger?"

This line is wasted on a character like Sinon, who doesn't even realize the gravity of Kirito's words.

Just seemed terribly melodramatic for SAO. The character Sinon and her entire backstory just seems so uninteresting to me, versus the first season of Kirito battling for his life.

Regardless, I still have a ton of enthusiasm to see what GGO has in store for Kirito, and the rest of the episode was full of suspense.

Absolute rubbish (unless I'm having a total memory blank) where exactly in S1 was is said that Kirito destroyed the LC guild? It was never even stated (again, if my memory is serving me correctly) that the LC was destroyed at all. That's part of the problem, they were brought up on one or two occasions and then never mentioned again. But suddenly now out of nowhere it turns out that there was some epic traumatic battle against them (that was never mentioned)

Even some of the most die hard SAO fans I know fully admit to this being a retcon, since after-all the author originally only wrote the first novel, so stuff like this battle against the LC was added in later for future books.

For anyone who has a web novel and/or is writting it down
These are the kind of stuff that should make you think twice before some cool retcon since when your WN becomes something that gets sold people will hate to know so late stuff happened and you left them for side stories and subplots since you had no hope on publishing your story and thus you made it live on the internetz and thus you didn´t have the time or experience to work on it and made it more self contained.

I went back to the scene in question and you are right, they didn't mention it.

However it is mentioned specifically in the first novel including the fact that Kirito killed two of its members, it was something that Kirito thought, so it didn't make it into the dialog.

The way they showed it this episode as pretty much how it was explained, from the novel: "Asuna and I were in the group too. But the information had leaked somewhere, and the PKers were prepared and waiting for us. In my frenzy to protect my comrades, I ended up taking the lives of two Laughing Coffin members by accident."

Note what he said: "by accident". He blames himself for killing them. He shouldn't but he does.

The first novel also mentioned Kirito's trauma "I didn’t want to be away from her. The close encounter had induced a terrifying fear of death that I had never felt before, one that couldn’t be shaken off even now. I would definitely have nightmares if I slept alone tonight. I would dream of that person’s insanity, his sword digging into me, and the feeling of stabbing my right hand into him; I was sure of it."

This ties into why Kirito only suffered a relapse this episode, it is the "insanity" of killers that scared him, he wasn't confronted with a killer in ALO (until the parking lot, and he nearly panicked himself to death there as well), so being confronted with another Laughing Coffin member would be traumatic for Kirito.

Should the animation have mentioned it, probably, but at that time they had no idea that they would do a second season, and they made a decision to just go with the dialog.

There's noway they were gonna kiss, why he'd kiss her AW ? there's no any relationship that bonds them together except that they accidentally killed several people, actually their relationship is still shallow, for the god sake, they met hours ago and now you expect them to kiss ? that means that the relationship between Kirito and Asuna is very shallow. after all the difficulties they went through for them to be together, If he'd cheat on Asuna with a girl that he'd just met then he's a jerk and a psycho.

Even If they were to kiss in the end of the episode, I don't think Sinon'd accept that kiss. she'd definitely ask him why he kissed her and he'd end up being slapped on the face like the last time when he revealed his gender to her.

Wait....in your first couple of responses you attempted to say what I said was wrong without even knowing if what you were saying was correct in the first place? lololol

Well considering we're talking about episode 6 of the anime then novel is utterly irrelevant. It's a total retcon in the anime and from what I've heard from people that have read the novels it wasn't in the original novels either. I'll take their word over yours since apparently you say stuff like "It was said in season one that Kirito was one of the reasons the guild was destroyed." without even knowing if it's true or not.

Not really though, especially when you look back at how he acted in ALO.
I do appreciate the author's effort to redeem himself and write a semblance of a compelling character arc for his protagonist, but the fact remains that it's inconsistent with what we've been presented in both SAO and ALO, and thus makes the whole thing pretty hard to buy and more convenient than anything else.

But it is believable, I think that's the main thing here.

Well in ALO he was fixated on that stupid girl, so it would have been kinda weird for him to catch feels randomly there.

For someone supposedly fixated on saving his waifu he sure took his sweet time to get to Yggdrassil.
Problem is he PK'ed players in fairly traumatizing ways without batting an eyelash and with a big dumb smile on his face, which is pretty much the opposite reaction you'd expect from someone who just got out of the death game he was stuck in for two years and where he had to kill people for real.

Honestly, I was getting tired of SAO after the first arc, because I just saw it turning into a harem and the fact that Kirito isn't hardly phased about going back to the virtual world after what happened to him..? I find that hard to process.

This episode I am happy see the Kirito does become shaken up when he thinks back on SAO and what he had to do to get by because he seems more believable as a character to me.

@SimmianPrime

It is really pathetic to accuse me for something you are doing.
And the novels aren't irrelevant the moment you mention the author.

Now, I could easily prove that it was in the first volume of SAO, and make you and those imaginary fans you created look dumb, but another user already did, but you probably thought that you could avoid it by replying only to me.

Wait, so this flashback happened during the real SAO, or after the events of ALO where they said they will finish 100 floors of SAO?

Since Kirito mentioned he killed 3 guys, means it is on the SAO death game... but the guy survived so its on the second part probably.
