Naruleach said: News Update METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) has published a press release stating 500 manga works and 80 anime works are being targeted, not websites. The press release includes a PowerPoint that contains an actual list of websites they are targeting. Included are scanlation sites (slides 11-12), fansub upload websites (slides 13-15), direct download websites (slide 16), torrent sites (slides 17-18), and redistribution websites (slides 19-20). They can't take it down since it also has content from America like Avatar and RWBY. They also can't remove the content, they're going to ask them to remove it. |

tsubasalover said: The press release includes a PowerPoint Oh, oh wow. Thank you for my morning laugh. Kudos to the Roland Berger consulting firm for pulling this one over on the Japanese government. This is just amazing. Someone please correct me if I'm off with translations: Page 102: Okay, Americans, y'alll have stolen like $13 billion in manga and $8.5 billion in anime. I don't know if this is supposed to be annual, cumulative, or what, but you gotta stop, m'kay? Your yearly film industry only brings in around $10 billion, so why don't you pay for this? Lacertoss said: Well, that's just not true according to the report. On the same page, the consulting firm tells the government that you could monetize up to 66% of the stolen anime. A third would go away, but the rest could happily pay and the U.S. anime domestic market would be nearly half the size of Hollywood. U.S. total home entertainment spending last year was $18 billion (Source) so I'm sure we can squeeze out another $11 billion for anime and manga, which is what they estimate. It must be true because potential buyers said so on a consumer survey. Good job, Roland Berger. If there was no piracy, anime and manga would not be nearly 1/100th this popular. Page 103: Apparently 68% of you are streaming, 14% are using file storage, and 13% on torrents to do your thievery. They know your ways. Actually, they know because of that survey of a few hundred people they mentioned shortly thereafter. There were some good responses later on why they pirate, though. I can't wait for this thing to be fully translated, as promised by the ministry. |

You should be fine. Even if they somehow did manage it, you'd only have to google for a few minutes for a new site. Doomsday predictions point to us going back to IRC and XDCC, but that's pretty laughable. The USA is the only country that has any real chance of policing the internet, as far as I know, and even attempts by the American government have been no sell'd so far. This might be a stupid and "cheesy" logic but things like Operating Systems have been pirated for as long as I can remember, that goes w/out saying to softwares, SOPA & PIPA are there but music & movies are still downloaded until today, uploaders should just need to be smart and do not post the raw url of the site, The worse case scenario could happen is websites would be putdown/seized but its just a URL name, website owners should start advertising a 2nd URL as their backup website just incase the main goes down, most websites should already have back-ups for most anime/mangas, w/ the help of fast ISP's like Google Fiber, its highly possible that what's been taken down should be brought back-up quite quickly. If my theory is correct, its one of those, "they'll brought down, and it'll be brought back up again" situations, its like the Mexican border, people are keep getting arrested everyday but more still come tomorrow, Animes will still come in to view in websites cause its very good and make people happy, you don't need to earn to make you happy and motivated to upload animes for everyone to see, seeing everyone happy and grateful and talking about how good the anime is and how excited they are for the next episode is a prize & motivation itself to upload an anime. |

LOL really? It's not like the Japanese industry has done anything to make their stuff available legally, globally, instantly and in English. GET WITH THE TIMES! What else are we supposed to do? Learn Japanese? We have CrunchyRoll, I guess, but even then it's horribly flawed as most of it is constricted to the States. It's as if they believe there are no anime/manga fans outside of America, which is complete BS! Is there even a service like this for unlicensed mangas and light novels? If not, then I better start reading before the Japanese government of fools remove it all... (Would prefer it as an actual physical book though but what can you do) |

Pretty sure they can't take down sites if it's based in certain countries that have lax piracy laws. Any smart site would have already protected themselves ahead of time. I'm only worried about manga sites since I'm sure some popular ones will comply with Japan's requests. It's happened in the past with sites like OneManga. |

Not being racist but China/chinese people have been giving us troubles alot lately, in the Philippines they keep seizing Spratlys Island w/c is lawfully inside 200-mile exclusive economic zone. In the Dota 2 scene China describe korean players as weak and only has high APM (you can google those, this will look too long if I post the details) Also Chinese here(PH) are labeled as strict, unforgiving, cheating, do anything for the sake of money, and always wants/forces people to over-work and be mean to them. Now our sites are in danger cause the over-populated china have millions of free streaming bitches? I'm starting to hate anybody chinese now, ofcourse I'm not counting all, but its so infuriating you want to say fvck you china! |

I think with anime it will be back to how things were in a flash! My biggest worry is with manga. If they go for scanlation groups and manga sites then I have a feeling as manga readers we will be in big trouble. I seriously hope not though because I can't live without my regular release of my fave manga scans. MY GAWD MANGAHERE IS ON TOP OF THAT LIST!!! I just felt my blood rush to my feet!! I love that site! It is so amazing and efficient. That's where they upload all the amazing manga. Even those not-so-popular ones. Damn Japanese govt. Just damn! You can't do me like this. |
