MAL Updater is a godsend. I got banned for a week and had to track my own shows, felt like going back to wax candles and horse-drawn carts.

Yeah well, I have some anime DVDs on my Amazon wishlist, it's just taking me a while to order them because I am still trying to come to terms with actually spending thirty bucks on a damn DVD. I won't even spend twenty bucks on Disney DVDs.

Not anime but video games. I never let my PS3 be hacked, and I only buy original CDs. But for anime? Never remember I've done something financial for anime, can watch it online for free.

Have you ever imported a game based off an anime you watched or a crossover with licensed properties from said anime before? If so you have. Also, you support the industry if you have bought OP/ED/OST/Character/Drama CDs from said anime.

I try to watch on legal streaming websites but if those don't have the anime I have, I watch from an "illegal" streaming website. If I REALLY like the series, then I go out of my way and buy the DVD series and/or manga. I also buy random merchandise whenever I get the chance such as video games, wall scrolls, accessories, etc.

Well personally i buy box set's and movies when i get them for a decent price. I used to by figures too (rarely) but thank's to some dipshits you have to pay high taxes if you order something outside of EU area that costs over 22 euros so that make's ordering figures a pain.

Does it really cost that much? I looked at the prices before and I thought it came out to something like ~600 or 700$

Standard edition after the initial release is $700, but initially it was $900 standard and with the G4U $1100.

last time i ever support(if it is) is buying anime dvds, 2 posters and a numbers of anime buttons. don't know if it is really supporting the industry though because the dvds i bought are pirated(maybe) and the money i used to buy the merchandise may not go to the industry :\. buying localized anime games can help, right?

I recommend the best anime to other people in hopes that they will watch it. I have gotten many people to watch Death Note this way.

This in turn causes them to possibly recommend them to other people, and in that big chain, surely some of them will buy the DVDs or watch anime on legal streaming websites.

Where do you find this money. That's crazy. Those figures alone must have cost upwards of $2500, let alone all that other stuff.

I've spent probably $1000 on anime, mostly from sales or from shops who are selling out of circulation anime. I've probably spent over $1200 on merchandise, though, and I know I've spent probably $2700 on manga.

Pics of the anime and manga for proof: http://imgur.com/a/xJZ26
Some merch albums (some of these may show things already shown in the above Imgur album, but it's mostly stuff that's not visible in that album - I also have a titanic sized Pokemon card collection, but that's for another thread/day): http://s337.photobucket.com/user/donavannj/library/anime%20detour%202014%20swiggity%20swag

I also support the industry by using their official streaming sources when I can. And I watch Toonami (or, rather, record it through DVR), which helps Adult Swim/Toonami acquire target market based advertising since I'm in their chief marketing demographic (18-24).

By giving good feed back and recommending the anime, also if its something I've really enjoyed id buy three season but only if its dirt shit cheap other wise idfc. Not breaking the bank so I can support a show I liked. And recently I've began buying a few manga from all the series I really liked cause its a Hell of a lot cheaper lol and this way I have no guilt from reading online your free.

Jezus Christ thats creepy. I dont know how Id feel if I walked into a buddys home and he had figurines of half dressed girls all over the place.

I mean I know its just a hobby and I shouldnt judge, but for me its simply the fact that anime characters dont translate well into the real world. So for me anime figures just look downright weird/creepy.

At least your covering for my streaming/torrenting ass too ^^.

I doubt that the author even gets 1% of the money spent on a anime/manga, most likely you are funding the corporations

Money process for overseas buyer goes like this: Buyer -> retailer for cost of stocking and cost of labor (razor thin margins, maybe even sold at a loss if it's amazon) -> dub publisher/license holder for license rights and salaries for VAs and/or sub/dub production crews (razor thin margins with most of the cost being labor for VAs/production, plus a potential exorbitant licensing fee if it's an extremely popular series) -> license holder for publishing the anime/manga series (basically just extra, low-risk revenue to compliment the domestic revenue) -> content creator and his/her studio.

Content creator gets a fair bit (especially if they're a celebrity of sorts for past series or the series is popular and the publishing terms have already been up for renegotiation at least once), but the overseas dollar mostly goes to paying the overseas license holder to dub/translate/sub the series and actually acquire the license from the Japanese publisher (and the more popular a series is, the more the license costs, which is why you see a lot of mediocre semi-popular series and generic harem crap get licensed in addition to the popular "mainstream" stuff, because there's a practically guaranteed revenue stream with those since they're popular enough to sell).
