Hii-kun being a man, according to manaka, ohhh boy she's falling!

I lol'd at miuna-chan doing that to her ojii-san.

Dat ending, manaka being caught up again by tsumugu. Deym I hate him.

oh well, looks like in the next episode it'll be manaka x hii-kun, I'm getting excited!

Wow. This episode really got me exited on what's to come. I am a huge Manaka-with-Tsumugu fan! And this episode kinda scared me in the last minute of the episode where she asked her self where can I go, and ends up saying Hikari's name, but Tsumugu ends up wheeling her in again, and I believe made her remind her how special he really is. I would love to learn more on Tsumugu, he is not as calm as he appears in front of his mother. I can't wait for the next episode!!

Dammit Tsumugu, Manaka just was about to accept the fact that Hikari does love her and she needs to get a grip. I love you Tsumugu but you have the worst timing in the world TT__TT OST is beautiful as always.

I can't help comparing Kename to Tetsuro (when he told Kaito about Kanna)

The beginning was epic. Especially since we learned that the lolis have actual crushes (yay, I'm not seeing things!). Even though I think they are just that - crushes - my inner HikariXMiuna shipper did a moonwalk around me in circles while humming a circus melody.

Bestest scene of this episode: The father daughter talk in the cafe
I want Rambo in a mecha-suit with a laser-chainsaw gun that fires nuclear warheads, fighting the love-child of Predator, Alien, a group of Bangladeshi terrorists, and Satan. (Actually that would be a pretty sick show) - StopDropAndBowl

That was soooo good!
I understand Manaka but its still annoying.

So we got...Manaka X Tsumugu & Chisaki X Tsumugu going on here...
How things went down Chisaki X Hikari is unlikely and Kaname...maybe he'll wake up to a adult Sayu XD

First of all, this is a really beautiful episode. But I hope they made it longer or probably split into two different episode. If only they gave more time of Akari and her father moments and a nice flashback of the three of them living together would brings more impact and giving more dimensions to 'dad' character and the family in surviving the mother's death.
The second half is really interesting as Kaname showed up his part of selfishness and drop the poker face of the screen. He is really trying hard and desperate to gain Chisaki's affections, even if she will hate him after pushing their confessions. He was a catalyst, a victim and a villain of the show.

This show never ceased to exceeded my expectations. One of few shows that I really looking forward to every week, and I'm glad they made it over twenty episodes.

edit: damn typo

i can't believe how these relationships have been dragged out to this degree. i don't like manaka and the land boy, he's such a dull character but i guess they are meant for each other. what a blah ship though. as dramatic as it is and the whole end to the episode just adding to that i really do enojy this series. teheheehehe

First time meeting of Akari's father and Miuna. Haha Miuna called him Grandpa, his reaction XD

So that was Tsumugu's mom.

I think Kaname wants all of them to confess their feelings. I feel sad for Chisaki.

I don't agree with what Kaname did, but I understand why he did it. If I'm interpreting this right then this is how it goes Kaname>Chisaki>Hikari>Manaka>Tsumugu>Chisaki so no one loves Kaname :'( He had to throw himself in the middle of it or he risks being left behind. It's a tough decision to make. By doing this he could potentially make Chisaki hate him, but if he doesn't he'll regret that he didn't do anything for the rest of his life.

I would really enjoy a time skip so I kind of do want them to hibernate, but so far I can't tell if they will or not.

Also, this show has been reminding me of AnoHana a lot, and then Kaname goes and does pretty much the same thing as Yukiatsu

Finally, Chisaki matures! She admits that she liked Hikari because she admired the way he liked Manaka. I really didn't think her feelings were completely geniune, so I figured it was something like that, and I'm just glad she recognized it in herself.

My heartstrings were pulled during the scene where it's just Kaname and he flops on the desk and says he's trying his best, too. I loved seeing that emotion from him. And as someone mentioned before, Tsumugu showed uneasiness from being around his mom, as well. Yay!

It's adorable how their dad was kind of happy-embarrassed to be called grandpa hehe.

Manaka... Oh, man. I don't know what to say about her. Yes, I am annoyed by her "I'm scared" and "I don't understand" all the time because she's not even trying to think, she just registers that something bad is happening and runs. I know that she will grow, but they're growing one by one, and Manaka is last. Hikari and Chisaki have showed the biggest changes and Kaname and Tsumugu are on their way towards changing. Not all people mature at the same rate, so I think it's fine that Manaka is still the same.

About the spoiler part:

I also like the part where Akari said those things to her father, really touching *-*

Good story, but it makes me wince heart, I expected something by Kaname, the only one who really has the strength to break through this veil of indecision that enveloped the group of four boys. Also nice that you be given space to Tsumugu too often left aside, although not him perhaps the centerpiece of the story. I am convinced that there will be hibernating, to reshuffle the cards and changing forces in the field, I'm so anxious to see what will be changed after hibernation! * _ *
Very nice drawings, even the good part of the story at the end of the episode.
Plot that spins away that is a pleasure, but I want more space for the events of Tsumugu.

Must admit, this shows keeps going from strength to strength. Kaname must of wanted some extra screen time the way he dropped that bombshell, but tbh I do understand why he did it. He's like the middle man of the group, he's not been as influential on the story but he's had his moments, he's also the most mature (in my opinion anyway) think of how he told Chisaki, in front of her parents he likes her, how manly LOL

This episode was pretty dramatic, the father-daughter talk was really nice, I think Akari's father knows her heart is in the right place and has gradually accepted the marriage as not only an inevitability but the right thing for Akari.

Hikari waving a flag (what a guy) say no more!

The classroom was a pretty decent scene, Kaname had to break down these barriers that the gang were holding up. I'm guessing he doesn't have much care for relationships changing, because that's what everyone has real objections about. He's the only one who's been honest at the start, and it's finally forced Hikari (which he did brilliantly) to confess to Manaka, as well as Chisaki to confess to Hikari. My guess is when Chisaki saw how Hikari really felt for Manaka he could reel himself in but now he looks like he got friendzoned.

When Hikari sat down, I did think it was the right thing to do, and he and Chisaki are similarish, both have been developing at the same speed. Manaka is slightly growing, but it's abit long winded, but I can understand why, remember when she said she wanted to protect Hikari instead of him protecting her, it'll definitely take her time.

Then Manaka gets caught again, typical cyclical nature to make it even more interesting for episode 13 luvly jubbly!!

Sayu loves Kaname. She probably won't get anywhere, but its something. But seriously, I don't really get why some people view Tsumugu as liking Chisaki, or even vice versa. In terms of a potential couple from wishful thinking, that's fine. But at this point, in terms of concrete evidence, Tsumugu has shown no signs of liking Chisaki, and the only real thing Chisaki has done is get flustered when their arms touched, that's it.

I got a possible theory, Kaname is somewhat really significant... the instabilities of the Sea might be related to his emotions.

First of all, His name Kaname (要) means main, pivot, vital point.
It has a figurative meaning "key person" or "important thing" that makes everyone/everything put together.

It's just a theory of mine though, I'm not sure if the author of Nagi no Asukara hid the "main" secret plot in Kaname's name or maybe it's just coincidence. ^^

(p.s. Manaka runs again ugh)

the father and daughter relationship is wonderful. Both characters grow and learn for each other. I really felt for the Dad this episode. I was also able to respect the daughter, as she is very strong in her resolve. because of that, the show was OK. The confession time was pretty good, pretty ballsy of Hikari. But Chisaki, was actually a total idiot this episode, as she put Kaname down and trampled on his feelings. And as for Manaka, she is seriously the worst character in the series, as she is flat and development is predictable. Its a shame shes going to be a major plot point for the rest of the series, it literally makes me wanna stop watching when i see her on the screen.

Tsumugu is a very interesting character, i was expecting a generic badass but we have received something much more interesting. Hes def the best character in the series, i have a feeling he is going to do something crazy in the series since he has stated he desires to acquire Ena(A few episodes ago when he was healing Hikari up).

Ahhh jeez. So much Manaka hate! I didn't like Manaka at the start, but I like her now. It sucks to be young when all you want is for everyone to get along and for things to be all sunshine and rainbows, and then you start having to grow up and realize that life isn't that way, and it won't be that way. Ever. Yup, I was like Manaka in that sense (13-15, I think), though I didn't cry nearly as much (that was stuck in for moe and story factor though, imo). Now as an adult looking back I can only feel bad for her, remembering my own cowardice and inability to understand what was going on and move forward. That said, I do see her changing and moving on, though it is subtle enough that they keep having to throw heaps of meta at it (no other character gets that sort of overlooking specific mention as 'oh look, s/he's moving forward again!' -- which also makes me think there's foreshadowing in it).

And when Manaka gets all angsty about the hibernation I can only compare her to a certain someone I know and love who is terrified of the thought of the unknown of death. I think there's a parallel there, and in response I just want to hug her. I can't understand that feeling, because I'm a 'we'll deal with whatever happens' sort of person, but that doesn't mean I can't sympathize with the fear of the unknown.

I'm really looking forward to the continuation of Manaka's development. :) I think perhaps they might have gone overboard a bit with her character, but compared to the others I feel like there's something they really wanted to hammer home with her (that or, as I said earlier, it's just a stunt for some demographic bit probably shoved in by the producers). I hope there is an elegant payoff, I feel bad for those who don't like her. :/

That said, I hope it ends on the feels train and not sunshine and rainbows. That's just how I like my fiction!

Daft Punk's Something About Us so fits this episode.

I don't understand why so many of you hate or find Manaka annoying. I think the way she is acting is normal and reasonable. Not too long ago she was a crybaby who relied on her friends. She is changing for the better, but do you guys really expect her to change into a strong character in such a small amount of time? Give her some time and she too will also change like Hikari.

Also I loved how the 2 cool and calm guys showed emotion this episode. Kaname showing frustration when he found out Tsumugu went to the city with them and then the scene with the school. Tsumugu also showed uneasiness in front of his mom.

Personally, her being a crybaby who relied on her friends is enough for me to dislike her. But regarding her situation, I just don't see what there is to not understand or be scared about, and she's been this way since the beginning. If Hikari can change in that amount of time, Manaka can too, or at least she could stop running away from everything that negatively surprises her, but she's still the same annoying baby she was at the start.

But Hikari was just an arrogant and naive kid. It is much harder to transition from a person that relied on others to an independent person than what Hikari did. I mean she is improving, she did go back to the surface to meet with Tsumugu after running away. I say give her time. She will change.

Also I don't mind crybabies once in a while. I don't want every single character to be strong in an anime, it makes it dull and boring since there wouldn't be much character development.

Assuming she likes Tsumugu, she doesn't make sense. I mean, they barely get any screen-time alongside each other, and haven't known each other for long. I understand that love isn't always rainbows and kittens, but he has barely shown any affection towards her, whereas she has been relying on Hikari for ages, and completely rejects his affection. Not only that, she always runs away instead of giving people straight answers. If you don't have feelings for someone, fine -- but at least have the decency to reject them.

This episode was okay for me but the fact that everyone is so indecisive and the whole love triangle is driving me mental xD But I found it really nice how they all lately have been acknowledging the risks with this whole event, actually maturing and its not a case of "I love you" relationship instantly. It has really developed but its a shame manaka didn't grow up as much compared to the rest, I feel bad for her running but y'know it gets frustrating to see your favorite couple together then her running off every single time. Gah. Next episode tomorrow! :3

Chisaki and Hikari finally confessed and it looks like we're learning more about Tsumugu, which is good cuz he seems really interesting. I only hope that he doesn't have feelings for anyone, it would seriously ruin his character.

I think Kaname was justified in his actions, throughout the anime he's kept quiet and hasn't had any emotional outbursts, so it's only fair that he gets a chance to speak up. Even if it was a little rude, his intentions were well, and served as a catalyst to all the characters saying how they truly felt. Kaname's a kid too, just because he's been pretty passive throughout the series doesn't mean he can't have feelings too.

I pretty much had the same reaction as the bartender to Akari and her dad's conversation.

I'm really worried there's gonna be some much sadder moments to come. Argh, four episodes back to back is gonna be harsh on me. :(

And it looks like all but one confession is out of the bag now. I really can't decide on who's gonna end up with who, if any at all... I feel like Kaname is going to get the short end of the stick though.

I understood what she meant, but I still found it pretty funny when Manaka thought "When did Hikari become a guy?"
