Childhood shows like Pokemon and more Pokemon. Didn't pique me enough and subsequently memes on Suiseiseki's "desu" and watched Rozen Maiden, and subsequently watched Sword Art Online and tuduruuuu introduced me to anime world. /theend

I've always... always been watching you... This whole time... Because you were there... That's why I was able to try hard. So you could have some balance! So you wouldn't treat me like a kid! So you would see me as an actual girl! Even while you were gone... You were right here! You were right here in my heart!

Back in April of this year, a friend of mine on Skype linked me to a dubbed episode of Ah! My Goddess since she thought I would like the episode in particular. Low and behold, I found myself watching the whole series and soon enough I realized that anime could be a potentially awesome piece of media for me to get into. However, I stalled on actually watching anything else until July 1st when I tuned into Oreimo. I absolutely loved it and then I pretty much found myself watching anime left and right, and now here I am, loving Japan n' shit as well as anime. Quite different to how I was the winter before where I said I disliked anime (even though I never had actually watched anime beforehand. Yeah, stupid of me, I know).
Southern-lover (yes, this includes rednecks) and Japanese-lover. How about that?

My love for anime started with Berserk, over 10 years ago. Some of my friends introduced me to the series and I immediately loved it. I still have fond memories of watching this series at a friend's house while secretly smoking our first joints, with a towel stuffed under the door to keep the smell of cigarettes and cannabis from reaching his parents. Those were the days :)

After Berserk I picked up shows like Guyver and Hokuto no Ken and I've been watching anime ever since.

Started 2004 when i was watching YTV when suddenly a Gundam Seed series was on, and fell in love with it, then every Friday night i would watch and wouldn't miss a single Friday night. Soon later discovered the internet and noticed everything you could ever look for is there. Then out of no where, Anime has been born into my life!

I'm just old enough to remember the old days of Pokemon so I always grew up with that aspect of anime - (as well as a sizeable collection of 1st edition cards). Between the ages of 7 and 14 I drifted away from anime until I decided to watch School Rumble one day. Since then, the enjoyment from watching anime has slowly snowballed.

Naruto was probably the first anime I watch over a long period of time but it still didn't get me hooked over the depth of the anime world. Then not long ago a friend recommended an anime based on MMORPG which was... YES SAO! And since then I've been watching tons of different types of anime.

The funny thing was that I started to watch anime other than the big three(and a few others) was that because I wanted to post on how fucking awesome SAO is in a forum until I realized it was criticized real bad and couldn't comprehend on why it was(mind you, a noob at anime), people started bitching about what must 'watch shows' such as ... bla bla bla... and I did... that was how I started to give my free time to watch anime. Thanks to the haters of SAO.

Now I basically have an understanding of why SAO was heavily criticized and what anime truly deserves a true 10. But.... F*ck! SAO is what got me into the anime world, so whatever the haters say it will always be a 10 and a favourite anime of mine.

I watched a lot of shows like Dragon Ball Z and Yugioh when I was little. One night I was about to go to sleep and I just randomly remembered this one series I saw like 10 years ago and how much I loved it but could not for the life of me remember the name. Finally though I remembered the name of the girl I liked most on the show and the series turned out to be Neon Genesis Evangelion. Found a website that streamed anime, watched it and realized how amazing that was, so I started looking at other anime on there and now I can't stop! Lol

When I was a kid I watched Sailor Moon and Pokemon and was even interested in Japanese culture, unrelated to anime. That was really it for awhile and then about a year ago (inb4 noob) my boyfriend showed me Soul Eater and it just kind of snowballed. Makes me wonder how I wasn't bored out of my mind before.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me! SAO was actually something like my third anime and my first subbed series (thank god- the dub is dreadful). I was so excited to go online and read all the reviews on what a masterpiece it is (my opinions have since changed) but I got the opposite. Well, people may hate SAO but it seems to be a popular gateway.

Watched Pokemon, DBZ, Yugioh, Cardcaptor Sakura etc etc etc back in the day. Didn't really get into anime with those.

Much later watched Naruto then Bleach and got into anime. It's a good thing I started with bad anime since I could actually enjoy them back then. Wouldn't be able to sit through those shows nowadays, though.

Astroy boy, the 80s version. My brother loved it and I just ended up watching it because I was an anklebiter then. I've been watching anime to various degrees ever since.

He also explained what anime was to me. So it was probably more a result of my brother than any specific anime that I have watched it and been into it for so long. Plus this all happened over 20 years ago so I can't really remember what the hell the first anime I ever really loved was. I don't remember everything that happened before I was 8.

My first ever show was probably Akazukin Chacha, but that was just one show that I loved when I was about six years old. It was dubbed into English and I didn't even know it was originally from Japan at the time. I also watched an episode here and there of Lupin or Detective Conan or Ghost Fighter Yu Yu Hakusho, but I didn't develop any real interest.

Then a few years later I got into Pokemon, but only Pokemon. I didn't branch out into other shows.

Few years after that I made friends with people who liked anime. Our main obsessions were... well, Shaman King, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Naruto to begin with.

When I was a little kid I originally saw Dragon ball Z when it was still airing live at my cousin's house who lived in another country. It was dubbed and unedited, so everyday while on vacation there i would know what time to rush to the TV to watch.
That's the show that got me into anime, can't believe its still on TV in some sort of form and kids still watch it 0.o

Was unaware of what anime even was long ago, but I was watching well known animes like Sailor Moon or DB/DBZ. Probably didn't start getting KINDA into anime until around 5 or 6 years ago, but I was catching up on some of the older animes like InuYasha, and just wasn't all THAT interested. About 3 years later, I come upon HnG, which is now my all-time favorite in case ya didn't know:P, and got too into it...and here I am.

That's a toughy. I used to watch Digimon, Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Shaman King, Sonic, Kirby etc, but didn't really know what anime was, or that these shows were "anime".

I guess it all started when I found CrunchyRoll and on it found Digimon Savers about 6-7 years ago.

Well, I'm old enough that I was able to watch original airing episodes of Astro Boy, Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, and Ultraman back in the 1960's - but I didn't care much for anime back then, so really didn't watch it too much. Yeah, I'm old.

After that, I didn't watch any anime again until about 6 or 7 years ago, when my pre-teen daughter showed me Spirited Away and some other Studio Ghibli movies she had seen on TV. I looked up all the Ghibli movies and got most of them on DVD for my two girls to watch, but I enjoyed them as well. A few years later I got totally hooked on Avatar: The Last Airbender series on Nickelodeon, also while watching TV with my daughters. OK, so not Japanese, but it's still anime to me - and to this day it is still my all-time favorite. But, I didn't start watching anime on a regular basis until I cut the cord on Television completely in my house about a year ago - No cable, no satellite, not even an OTA antenna. I just got Netflix for my girls so thay could watch some of their TV shows they liked, streaming through their PS3 to the livingroom TV. I soon noticed they had an anime category - so I sat down one day when I was bored and watched Origin: Spirit of the Past as my first anime on Netflix... Then Chrome Shelled Regious, then Blood+ , then Angel Beats, then Sekirei, then Last Exile, then.... well, you get the picture!

So now, one year later, I already have 60 anime titles on Blu-ray in my collection, and I'm addicted to anime - I've almost completely stopped watching Hollywood movies anymore, lol!!
