It's the same as all free MMORPG. Large part of users pay for premium accounts to get faster progress, some pay for different exclusive features such as premium tank models or tank designs. And other things. You could play without paying at all but most of my friends pay at least a bit cause they like the game and don't mind to put some money in it. But you can't get big advantage in WoT for money unlike some other MMORPGs. By free I meant you could play it and get high results even without paying real money. Actually you could get all payed things for game money but it would be much harder. Highest online on Russian server was about 500k people if I remember right. I don't have statistics about percent of users who pay on every server and noone has probably. |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

I definitely noticed that unlike most shows that try to blend cute girls with mechanized combat that Girls under Panzer actually tries to make use of the mechanized combat and tries to please that audience to. Its a rare time where it's not a bait and switch. I guess it seems random that that kind of proved successful in this case though perhaps not. I think there's an audience out there for military style stuff (look at Gundam Unicorn) and if you look at my MALgraph it's actually my favorite genre (albeit the bait and switch nature of shows like IS and Lagrange etc was what initially made me skip GuP cause I figured they'd do maybe one tank fight and 75%of the show would be, K-On type fare) that just gets ignored but will show up when actually tapped. If this can maybe be a wakeup call to the industry I only see it as a positive and likewise I love it when a small upstart can get ahead cause to be honest the industry has become a little oligarchal when it comes to what names will sell products. Regarding the comment on budget, I meant more a matter of effort though I suppose the depiction of real tanks balances that out a bit. Also I find the writing serviceable but not fantastic but then when it comes to high praise I often have high standards. I'm not one to praise alot but iI will give credit if I think it's do. |

I'm not one to praise alot but iI will give credit if I think it's do. When I complimented the writing in GuP I was speaking more of its technical merits than of originality or complexity. It told a simple story, but it told it extremely well, something that fewer works are doing today. The plot was straight forward, from beginning to the end, everything we saw showed well thought out development: Miho's conflict and resolution with her mother framed the start and ending (which made the ending so touching), but internally there were multiple threads that also developed nicely - a couple examples: 1) Miho rescuing her team members, first by instinct, finally through conscious effort 1a) Miho's development as a commander, they beat Saunders by luck, they beat Black Forest through a series of well thought out strategies (ever action in the last 2 episodes were part of Miho's total plan, little hints dropped through the episodes show that the writer was well aware of this. 2) the development of the freshmen team (ran away the first time to becoming serious veterans staring down much larger tanks at the end). 3) the development of the volleyball team - joining to revive the team, ending by committing themselves to senshado. In this thread there was the nice running gag of the commander's cliched "will to victory" speech, which the blonde always questions, until the final episode the blonde is now buying into it and other member is questioning it). 4) the total reversal of the student council team - their characters changed completely, but at the same time they didn't change, that was well done. And so forth. The point isn't that any of these threads were original, they weren't, but all of them were executed extremely well. The show had a ton of cliches and tropes, but they were all put to good use. The show also used foreshadowing well, and there was very little wasted dialog or scenes. The writer also either answered directly any questions the viewers may have had, or at least showed the writer had thought of the question (a good example was explaining why Miho rode exposed, something that most people would have thought wrong when watching). Most shows don't do that. |

Vol. 1 sold 8,906 DVD+BD combined after 3 weeks. Vol. 2 has sold 1,377 DVD only in 1 week. Presumably BDs will add about the same amount when they rank in the full list later this week, putting it around 2.7k. It may get a second week on BD for another couple hundred, putting it a little over 3k. It probably won't rank a third time but it's not impossible. So yes, it's going to have dropped by about two thirds. Event ticket drops can be brutal. Or conversely, event ticket boosts can be amazing - depends how you want to look at it. In any case, people can give up on this being Manglobe's first disc sales hit. The quest continues. Wow. That's a huge hit to drops. |

There may be some overlap between the two but quite many of the military fans who got attracted to GirlPan are not science fiction fans. Those who are into scifi mecha are likely to be anime watchers all along but historical military otaku see little in anime that cater to them. As I said, the IS / Gundam UC audience (for mecha) are not quite the same as the GirlPan audience (for historical tanks). The (military hobbyist) audience that GirlPan found are from outside the anime fans, not from within (like Gundam UC)I think there's an audience out there for military style stuff (look at Gundam Unicorn) |

No doubt Sakuga fans bought it up as did some of Shinkai's fans of which there are many devotees, but other than that it doesn't really seem like the sort of thing that would have mass otaku appeal like Love Live, OreImo and Girls Und Panzer for example. pretty much that, as much as i love shinkai films, they arent huge mainstream movies, none of them have been, they're almost equivalent to western art-house films. and 10k isnt too bad, and it will definitely sell more. keep in mind it also started selling at the cinema premieres, so a lot of fans would have bought it there too. |

The BD ranking according to Stalker estimate would be: TTGL BD Box UtaPrince2 v1 SAO v9 LB! v7 OreGairu v1 Valvrave v1 HenNeko v1 Index BD Box Minamike4 v4 ViviPan v4 Muromi-san v1 Sakurasou v6 Yuyushiki v2 Black Lagoon BD Box Does it mean overestimate in the case of TTGL BD Box (and Sakurasou)? July 12 now for Oregaru 1. Hopefully that means good sales, not just understocked. Mine hasn't shipped yet, can't wait for the novel and CD! Oh and episode 1... So many shipped on the same day that fairly direct comparisons should be possible. ViviPan4 under Valvrave and OreGairu 1... interesting that gives us a pretty accurate floor I would think unless ViviPan really dropped since volume 3 which sold 5245 first week. I am looking forward to ViviPan 4 anyway! HenNeko 1 seems low, under Muromi-san 1. I ordered Muromi-san but not HenNeko, hmm... Index Box beating OreGairu 1 but not Little Busters! 7, again Little Busters! probably gives us an accurate ceiling there, 7536 for volume 6 first week. Little Busters! hopefully will keep on busting, looking forward to my copy. So looks like a narrow range there unless there are big store front differences on release day with Vivpan at 11 giving 5000 floor and Little Busters giving 7500 ceiling at 6. |

UtaPri S2 has both the exact same price (6,800) for BD/DVD which means females went for the BD more this time. This is not so much of an effect for series with a huge male fanbase. |

America may have fewer players but in terms of addiction, Americans can be seen as more addicted in terms of how much money they are willing to spend on the tank game. Russia is still an important market to the game operation if only because of the vastly bigger number of players, though as I said before those who just go in for a free game may not spend as much time playing and thus hard to be called "addicted". |

Russia is still an important market to the game operation if only because of the vastly bigger number of players, though as I said before those who just go in for a free game may not spend as much time playing and thus hard to be called "addicted". It's not about the addiction. Just that US players have more money and they easily spend them for such a things. Russians don't like to spent money on games as much. And don't forget that company, who made WoT is from Belarus |

Nachtwandler_21 said: Well, you cannot deny that the willingness to spend money is an indication of how much they are attracted to the game, can you? And it is you who said that "Probably western audience just don't have such an addiction to tanks and tank warfare as slavic, chineese and japaneese have" and later mentioned WoT having more users in Russia, apparently to support that. It's not about the addiction. Just that US players have more money and they easily spend them for such a things. Russians don't like to spent money on games as much. Nachtwandler_21 said: That of course explains the high number of users in the Slavic area too, so this further weakens the argument that the number of WoT users is a reflection of how "addicted to tanks" for the people in Slavic countries. And don't forget that company, who made WoT is from Belarus |

It's just different logics. You forget that amount of money spent for something depends on available personal money too. Players from richer countries could spend much more but it doesn't men that they are more addicted. And in case of WoT you can't get significant advantage by spending money on game as I said before. |

Nachtwandler_21 said: Well, then based on what did you say "Probably western audience just don't have such an addiction to tanks and tank warfare as slavic, chineese and japaneese have" then? Why do you think Slavic people are more addicted to tanks? Just because WoT have more users? I think money spent is a good indicator (and this is not dependent on how much improvement you can buy by spending money, if you spend more money in the game it just reflect that you are into the game, which can reflect your "addiction") and I have explained why the mere number of users may not be as good a gauge of how "addicted to tanks" people of different countries are - more casual users who just come and go does not mean they are more addicted; WoT company is from Belarus which naturally explains the higher number of users in Slavic sphere. It's just different logics. You forget that amount of money spent for something depends on available personal money too. Players from richer countries could spend much more but it doesn't men that they are more addicted. |

Sorry to butt in, but symbv I think the reason most people willing to give money is more because they don't see benefit in investing their time in 'grinding' as many early premium tank considerably stronger than their regular counterpart, thus make it easier to level-up and get stronger tank... While those who don't - excluding those who don't have money - mostly are the more serious player due to gaining their level without any help... Afterall, the current paying model is slightly different than when WoT first released... The gold - which require real money - can now be bought by coin - which is the main currency that gain through playing - though to get gold require a lot of coins... Thus using premium stuff might means two thing: They only in 'for fun' (win cheap, cheap as in using money as shortcut) or because they are a pro who has 20:1 K/D ratio... And the reason Russian server has more player than USA server is as Nachtwandler_21 said more due to culture... There is one article I read about CoH:O that explain the free to play model isn't working very well in USA compare to China etc. Mostly due to pay-to-win stigma (which means 'the rich and stupid' stomp 'the poor and honest', sound very political but I've seen someone made that argument in a forum) and believe that price equal quality, with some exception where the developer has name in doing free competitive content (LoL and DOTA 2 is the most famous example)... Thus neither money spend and player base can be said to show how "addicted to tanks" people are... The WoT more popularity in certain area is, like GuP, a combination of several element... And I think Nachtwandler_21's statement is either a generalization or lack of data... |

OreGairu vol.1 is going very well; seems to be undershipped in some places... Very nice. |

@MarkS00N Thanks for your input. Actually I don't think money spent is a definite measure of "addiction" - it is just that following Nachtwandler_21's statement and his use of WoT apparently as supporting evidence, I want to say there can be other, probably better (though still far from perfect), ways to gauge "addiction" even if we look only at WoT - money spent per user is one, time spent per user is another. But I understand there can be other factors that determine why any one of these gauges, be it user base size, money spent per user or time spent per user, cannot clearly show how "addicted" people of various countries are. And this goes back to my original question: On what basis does one deduce and conclude that Slavic people are more addicted to tanks? Anyway, enough for digression talks. I have just noticed that Japanese forums are flooded with exciting reports from fans leaving a preair event of Free! Apparently 95% of the audience were female (not surprisingly). Now I wonder if MAL will show Free! to have Starting Date from today LOL |

Now I wonder if MAL will show Free! to have Starting Date from today LOL Lol 95% of the audience being female makes me think Free! is going to be like KuroBas without an also significant male fanbase. KuroBas' sales seem to suggest a male:female ratio of somewhere around 45:55. Of course, a preair event isn't such a large sample size to gauge the actual male:female ratio. I reckon they will add this preair date. It is before the "official" airing date and is a "preview airing". |

As we are discussing about UtaPri's success, Free! comes in at the wonderful time to test female otaku's buying power. |
