Ugh, the magi's review is actually a little big embarrassing and unwarranted since it's only 3 episodes. TimChan's review provide a much comprehensive and accurate cover.

Also, I guess it would've been easier to accept the fact that all of them ended up at different places considering that going in and going out of the dungeon is pretty random. In the manga, when Aladdin and Alibaba first enter the dungeon, Aladdin arrived much earlier than Alibaba did. There wasn't any explanation for this either...but I wouldn't say that it is a plot hole but just that the dungeon is pretty weird regarding entering and exiting. And yeah, I definitely agree with hokaru that this is something to accept as a fact...that the dungeon works this way, and that's that.

Because at Zagan's arc,

Nope. Those light birds (the Rukh) represents the flow of life. Aladdin is able to borrow that power from the world itself, but it's not his.

Additionally, when Alibaba was fighting Jamil you could see the light birds were drawn to Alibaba as well.

Edit: alright, I hide it in spoiler

All that that you've typed above this post should be put in spoilers.

Too many people writing things about the manga when clearly the first page says not too. It's even in capslock.

But it isn't right either. The magi can borrow the power from the Rukh (Aladdin even explicitly use the word "borrow") but it's not his. Aladdin's own power would be his magoi, the power from his own body.

No, the djinn can't manifest on their own. Alibaba's power comes from his magoi, the power inside his body. Without this power the djinn is useless. Basically, the metal vessel and djinn are just tools.

Huh? I'm 21 and I'm loving this show :)

Plus, I've already seen hints of some mature themes that might go over the heads of younger viewers. For instance, there was a poster earlier in this thread unable to comprehend Mor's conditioned loyalty to Judal.

It's colorful and it started screaming *you're my friend lets go on adventures now!* but it's not for kids.

It definately starts delving into other things that kids 10 and under [like what you said] would not appreiciate fully or even care about.

They've already begun talking about Kings.

The scene highlights the Rukh at that moments for a reason. Go see the that scene again. Jamil notes about Alibaba's sword play, and then they show the Rukh around him getting restless. The Rukh is indeed everywhere, like you said, but it is drawn to certain kind of people.

Aladdin doesn't say that out of kindness. He knows no one can't really control the Rukh because it's fate itself, and no one can control fate. Those who try to end up falling into depravity one way or another. Borrow is the right term for what the magi does.

That's not something to be proud of or boast about, here in MAL anyway.
Since anything "fujoshi bait" ends up getting shit on unreasonably.

Don't be fooled by the premise, Magi is clearly not for kids. Heavy political theme, massacre, some ecchi stuffs, and blood... blood and severed organs everywhere ...
. But if that's your definition of show for real kids, then go ahead.

Magi is not for kids, it just has a light-hearted feel to it.

Last time people said that was for the Hunter x Hunter remake, and it suddenly went brutal with gore, stuff little to none of the other shonen could manage to even think of doing. here's a scene for those who are interested from HxH's last 12 episodes: (this is nothing compared to the latest 3 episodes)

Kids under 10 years these days sure love gore, I'm pretty sure they'll also love politics and the themes of Balbadd and the next 2 arcs.

But to be fair, she's a slave since she's little. So it must be sense of fear for the master. Anyway this show shows cliche'd shit like deaf slaves suddenly speaking and wanting to do right thing and shit like that. Still enjoyable.

In manga,
There's a whole arc about Morgiana after the Kouga arc (after next arc) you know, they'll probably speak about her past there more than just fast flash-backs, that arc had a part about her past with Jamil and Goltas in the manga too and it showed her trauma as a slave.

In the manga it is even shown that Jamil used to abuse her by pricking her arms with a knife over and over again. Good thing she's a fanalis, otherwise she's probably dead by now.

Such strong control based on fear from childhood cannot be easily broken, and Aladdin knows that. He tried to reach her but failed. Only after Goltas sacrificed himself that she's finally able to let go of her fear and be free.

Now now that's what I call a good shounen adaptation. Don't have time to read 5pages, so I will just go straight to the points:

As the first episode caught my interests, I've spent through entire 1day reading 100+ chaps of Magi, and I'd say although it does not get off the typical battle shounen track(still revolves around 2 main characters who are Aladin and Alibaba --fighting, losing and training, then fight again to win -- but it expands to many different characters through their interactions as the series progress.)

The show does relate with political stuffs later on, which makes it interesting to read. A shounen show doesn't necessary aim at kids, but the people who read/watch it are diverse to many ages, such as PG-13 means 13 and older. I'm 20yrs old and I'm still attracted to Magi. Meanwhile seinen is like 17+, more mature when it contents lots of psychology, sex, violence, etc.

It was a bit disappointed when they didn't show Alibaba's past, it would help audiences to realize Alibaba's position, he has his own circumstances and not just a random kid on the street with big mouth and ambitions. At least they showed some of Morgiana slavery past when she was being tortured, so we could sympathize with her situation.

Imagine she's like a lion, every time someone rings the bell, she is hit. Through years and years, now with just only the ringing sound is enough to scare her. I can understand.

On the other hand, it was well directed, it skipped minor things, cram several chapters into one single ep but it wasn't felt like rushing. And the animation was extremely well done, those sword fights were eye catchy, that's what a real shounen show should looks like. Music also fits the series so well. Now I can't wait to see Sinbad lol.

-------------------------------

They should stop animating those weekly long run shounen stuff like narutard, fairy tails, bleach and focus on doing it seasonally. So they will have more time to care about the quality, rather than quantity.

Area no Kishi was a fail adaptation, meanwhile Kuroko no Basket was so epic. And now perhaps Magi.

Alibaba's and Jamil's flashbacks were narrating in the manga, narrating in anime isn't really that good of a thing, they just come out of nowhere (they did too in the manga, but it's more normal than in an anime), and no one knows their pasts to narrate and tell the tale. Jamil's flashback from Morgiana's PoV is better imo. They showed a couple scenes from Morgiana's past so they should help a abit during her arc.

Although not as strong as the previous episode, this was still quite good. The weakest aspect of the episode was the pacing, which occasionally felt a bit too rushed, particularly evident in how hastily Amon's dungeon was cleared, but, thankfully, this didn't heavily detract from the story.

Though short, Alibaba and Jamil's fight was excellently choreographed and well-animated. The characters are thoroughly compelling, particularly Alibaba, and I'm looking forward to finding out more about his intriguing past. Even though they're separated at the end, the gradual development of Aladdin and Alibaba's friendship, as well as their interactions, has been handled quite well. Morgiana is a very interesting character, so I hope she finds her way back to the others soon. The introduction of Judal, another magi, was quite exciting, since it seems as though he could be the main antagonist in the future.

The production values remain the strongest, most consistent element of the show, especially the animation, as it's particularly great during the action sequences. The adventurous tone of the story complements the arabian setting really well, which is essentially illuminated by the highly atmospheric music. The direction, however, wasn't up to it's usual quality, which is unfortunate, since there were several scenes of great importance that could have clearly been portrayed in a more effective manner.

All in all, despite some slight flaws in the execution of the narrative, Magi continues to impress. As such, it remains highly enjoyable, and, up to this point, I'm rather satisfied with the development of the characters and the story, but I do hope it slows down slightly moving forward.

Well, they can introduce a narrator, just like how they did in the Hunter x Hunter 2011, I remember hearing quite a few narrations. In Fairy Tail too, there's a narrator introducing the world/kindgom and guilds (forgot if there's other narrations).
